Chapter 249: Donald’s Past

[Margaret’s POV]

Just like earlier at the welcome banquet held by Windstorm Pack, when faced with the queries and tests from Lillian and Austin, he didn’t hesitate to stand by my side. That is what I call practical support through actions.

During the time Donald was speaking softly, I was actually silently watching him. This man rarely explains anything with such patience, and I really like the way he is right now.

I opened my arms and wrapped them around Donald’s neck, burying myself in his embrace.

Smelling his scent, I mumbled, "I feel safe with you by my side. I never really thought there was anything between you and Lillian. I know you’re not that kind of person, I... I just feel regretful, regretful for missing out on your past life, for not meeting you sooner."

If only I could have met Donald earlier, before Lillian and Angel knew him. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Donald seemed to chuckle softly, his arms tightening around me, and he kissed my neck tenderly, consoling me, "It’s not really about missing out, I’m very satisfied with meeting you in the Silver Moon Pack. I’m content with everything I have now. I love you, Margaret, and I will always be by your side."

As he spoke, he seemed to suddenly remember something, snorted in amusement, and continued, "Besides, I never thought there was anything good about my former self. The way things are now is just fine."

I didn’t quite understand what Donald meant by that last sentence, so I straightened up slowly from his embrace, looking at him with confusion in my eyes.

Donald let out a light sigh, and this time he decided not to ignore my questioning. He gazed at me and asked softly, "Do you know why I’m acquainted with Austin?"

Donald rarely volunteered information about himself, and of course, I couldn’t possibly know, so I shook my head.

"When my father was young, he had a very powerful Beta named Joseph, the most outstanding Lycan in the entire Werewolf Palace."

"He was invincible and had amassed glorious combat achievements at a young age, the brightest and most dazzling figure in the Werewolf Palace at the time. It can be said that without his full support and unwavering loyalty, my father never could have won the struggle for the throne against Uncle Dan!"

Hearing Donald mention several names that sounded very familiar to me, I looked up at him and joined the conversation warmly, "The Uncle you’re referring to, is he the one known as King Lington, Dan?"

"I heard from my father that many years ago, he was decisively defeated by the former Lycan King, your father Alex, outside the Demon Domain Forest, and no one has seen him since. People say he died, but who knows if that’s true!"

As I continued with some confusion, I asked, "But what does this have to do with your connection to Austin? Weren’t you just talking about your father’s Beta, Joseph? How is he related to all of this?"

Donald held my hand, looked down into my eyes, and his gaze became somewhat nostalgic, "King Lington doesn’t have much to do with this. By the time Austin, Angel, Henry, and I were learning combat from Joseph, he had already disappeared for a long time!"

"Speaking of which, I don’t know if he actually died because my father never mentioned him in front of us."

"I think my father is still saddened by the betrayal he faced. After all, they were biological brothers who grew up together. The fact that they became rivals for the position of Lycan King and fought each other is an everlasting pain between them."

When Donald talked about the past, his expression turned solemn, and his handsome brows furrowed deeply, like millennium-old ice that couldn’t melt in the depths of the Antarctic Sea.

I raised my hand to caress his face, softening my voice with affectionate reassurance, "These are your father’s stories, they have nothing to do with you, who was just a little brat back then. You don’t have to feel so sad and regretful."

Continuing in a gentle voice, I kissed Donald’s deeply furrowed brow and said, "In the end, a king stands and a defeated man falls, and the events that cause pain and regret will pass. All we should do is look forward, and as long as we have a clear conscience, that’s all that matters."

"That said, I knew that you and Angel shared the same school and teacher. I didn’t expect that Austin was the same. He seems to have gotten quite close to your Royal Family, huh!"

Observing Donald’s eyes brighten, I began trying to shift the topic away from the heaviness, "By the way, besides those two, who is this Henry you mentioned? Is he also a Lycan of the Wolf Royal Family? Or is he an Alpha of some pack? You never mentioned him before today!"

I thought I was deftly navigating away from the heavy subject, but I unwittingly stumbled upon yet another sensitive topic.

After the struggle for the throne ended in defeat, King Lington mysteriously vanished from the Demon Domain Forest, leaving behind just a very young son—Henry!
