Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 250: Henry
[Margaret’s POV]
Actually, Donald was only 12 years old at the time and did not understand the treacherous subtleties and changes in the royal environment.
He did not know when it started, but his once close cousin had changed, becoming no longer as cheerful and sunny as before, like someone completely different from the marrow of his bones.
"Although Uncle Dan’s sins were heavy, my father was clear about right and wrong; he did not implicate a child in all of this. Henry was abandoned by his father but still lived in the palace,"
"My parents treated him the same as they always had, and from age 12 to 14, Henry lived very discreetly and in peace."
"However, what no one expected was that these two years of calm were only an illusion. Dan was Henry’s biological father, a demon he could never shake off in his lifetime..."
Donald took a long, deep breath as he spoke; once the door to the past was opened, those sad and painful things could no longer be hidden, "Henry was seriously injured during an outdoor training session and has never been able to stand again since..."
"After waking from his terrible injuries, he said he had been set up and fell off a cliff! My father was furious at the time and ordered a full investigation into the matter, but in the end, no one was found and no traces were uncovered, so it had to be ruled an accident."
Having heard the story up to here, I too began to frown slowly, my emotions complex, not knowing whether to lament Henry’s harsh fate and misfortune or to feel resigned to the whims of fate!
The sins once committed by King Lington, how could Henry, his only son, possibly escape them?
Even if the former Lycan King Alex could let go, what about the others? You should know, to seize the throne, King Lington had done some utterly inhumane things!
Listening to the older generation talk about this matter, they would shake their heads and sigh, full of regret and sorrow for those who died in the turmoil.
I think Donald, being a person of profound feelings and loyalty, must have been deeply pained by Henry’s misfortune.
Just like now, merely bringing up those past events makes him profoundly melancholic.
"So what happened later? Is Henry still in the palace, how is he now?" I looked at Donald anxiously and asked.
At my words, Donald gave a bitter smile, sighed, and continued, "After that, Henry completely changed, no longer gloomy as before but became incredibly irritable and angry!"
"He was a bright and cheerful young man as a child with excellent grades and a breezy disposition. But that mysterious ’accident’ shattered his life; he could never stand again, and he became like lifeless deadwood, brooding and desolate."
"At first, I often visited him, trying every way to encourage him to ’stand’ up again, but his personality had changed, he refused to listen to kind words, and no matter how hard outsiders tried to help him, it was futile. This situation lasted until we both turned 18 and began to improve a bit."
"I still remember at my coming-of-age banquet, the words he said to me! He said, ’No matter what happened before, we will always be brothers!’ Later, when I took over the responsibilities from my father and became the leader of the entire Wolf royal family, he has always silently supported me."
"We would occasionally gather together, he, Angel, and Austin, to drink and chat! But I always feel it’s not the same as before, especially after Angel betrayed the Wolf royal family, that sunny childhood, we can never return to it."
For now, the story’s ending isn’t too bad—at least Donald can still see this brother who is very important to him; he, Henry, and Austin can still occasionally sit together to talk and chat.
Aside from the absence of Angel.
I looked at Donald’s profile, curved my lips slightly, and continued, "That’s already very good, he managed to survive such a difficult phase on his own, that’s really remarkable, we should sincerely wish him well, right?"
At my words, Donald’s eyes seemed to drift off a bit, as if reminiscing or perhaps forcing himself to accept reality.
At that moment, I didn’t quite realize how deeply this matter had impacted Donald, but I could see that he was very worried; Henry’s future seemed like it was covered in a thick veil, making one incredibly anxious and sorrowful.
"Perhaps. But you’re right, we should wish him well, and once we return to the palace and sort everything out, I’ll take you to see him, you two should get along well."
As he spoke, Donald’s eyes brightened a bit, and he continued while playing with my hair, "You and he are both very gentle and kind people."
I nodded, showing my anticipation.
It was the first time Donald had spoken so openly and patiently about his past to me.
I really enjoy our slow, steady conversations about each other, feeling as if in this way, we can get closer to each other’s hearts.
