Chapter 222: Love is wrong?

[Donald’s POV]

Angel’s pure white wolf form was extremely conspicuous against the night sky, if it weren’t for the bloody wounds on her hind legs, I would have thought she was entirely at ease in this duel.

This stronghold, to my surprise, had not gathered as many enemies as I expected, and most of them were just very ordinary werewolves.

If I hadn’t run into Angel and the fleeing MASTER right as I entered, I would have started to doubt whether this was really their secret base.

The MASTER’s escape from the fight seemed to have had an ’excellent’ leading effect on these werewolves, as they scattered and fled into the forest, looking to follow his example. My led Lycan assault team, on the other hand, had taken advantage of the chaos to capture many, making tonight’s haul quite good.

I looked at Angel, who was being surrounded by Mark and Christian, with an unkind expression. After scanning the area for a moment, a sense of strangeness began to creep into my heart.

I glanced at Anthony and gestured for him to bring his ear closer.

After confiding my suspicions to Anthony, I turned my head back to the ’hunt’ taking place not too far away.

That’s right, Angel was the ’prey’ we were hunting!

"Angel! You have always been a very smart person, you should know that the only thing you can do now is to surrender obediently. Give up, you can’t escape no matter what today," I said.

"It’s such a waste that both his Majesty and Elliot placed so much trust in you. His Majesty even entrusted you with managing such an important team as the assault team. Is this how you repay him? You’re a shameless traitor; you deserve death!"

"Surrender now, come back with us, and then accept his Majesty’s judgement. Only then can you make amends for all the crimes you’ve committed!"

There were quite a few members of the assault team among the Lycan forces tonight, and their feelings towards Angel, their former commander, were incredibly complex.

They wanted to kill this traitor directly to assuage the resentment in their hearts, but they were also reluctant to make things too absolute, as if there were no other options besides a deadly confrontation with Angel.

They are gallant warriors of the Wolf royal family, and also comrades who grew up and trained hard together with Angel. I think no one hates what Angel has become at this moment more than they do!

It feels as if a ’flesh and blood’ companion, someone close as kin, betrayed them, and in doing so, negated all of their past feelings.

Regarding the current situation, I actually feel very heartbroken and helpless.

It was my fault for not realizing earlier that Angel had ulterior motives, causing my warriors to face such a cruel reality on the battlefield. Their leader had not even seen a real battle before she turned traitor and defected to the enemy.

"Trust? Hahaha, you mean Donald’s trust in me?" As if hearing something utterly ludicrous, Angel exploded like dynamite at the question posed by Mark, her rage blazing as she loudly retorted.

"That’s the funniest joke under the sun! You can turn around and seriously ask him if he’s ever had a shred of trust in me, his hardworking former commander of the assault team," she continued.

With the manic laughter receding, Angel, her eyes filled with resentment and unwillingness, looked through the crowd at me, "I liked him, I admired him, but my love wasn’t some kind of poisonous reward that demanded blood. How could he treat me like that? Did I do anything wrong in loving him?"

"Or is it that only that good-for-nothing, lowly wench can occupy Donald’s heart? What gives her the right to so easily win your love?"

"Wasn’t it us who grew up together and trained together? Why should she appear halfway through and steal you away from me? Just because she is your absurd fated mate? How is the Moon goddess this unfair? I won’t accept this!"

As Angel ranted, her green wolf eyes burned blood-red with jealousy and bitterness. Watching her, I felt she had truly gone mad.

I instantly shifted from my wolf form to human, frowning and shaking my head, "Enough, Angel! Do you think I will still trust you? I see you have completely lost your mind. You dare to question and defy the will of the Moon goddess, what wouldn’t you dare to do?"

"What colossal benefits did MASTER offer you to make you completely betray your own family? I’m really curious. You say you love me, hmm?" I chuckled mockingly, my gaze on Angel filled with coldness.

"The one you love, isn’t it the one who tries to control everything, who even dreams of manipulating everyone? You don’t love me, you just love the identity and glory I represent as the Lycan King!"

"In the end, you’re nothing but someone who craves power and is arrogant and vain. If something is even slightly against your wishes, you would furiously try to destroy it..."
