As if she didn’t get to see the looks on Lara’s face, Kayla continued "No one knows exactly why his fiance left him in such a situation and chose the best man before the priest but there were rumours all over.
Many believed he was sterile. He’d never gotten an erection in his life and was never associated with any woman before Vivian, his ex fiance.
Some said he was a gay and didn’t have this thing for females. He was never seen with a woman before and the first woman he went public with, Jilted him.
Ever since that scandal broke out, he’d never gone public about relationships anymore. In fact,he now maintains a low profile but rules the business world.
He’s crazily rich, he’s worth trillions of dollars but I’m afraid he cannot be a father. In fact, he probably was not a real man in that sense..." Kayla was explaining.
He remembered that year, it’s over 3 years now, when that scandal broke out. It was suppressed and taken down but they couldn’t take it down from the memories of those who already read it.
Lara’s face paled. She held the edges of her blouse tightly, not daring to let Kayla notice how shocked she was. Is that what Curtis means when he asks her if she knows anything about his pains and his past too?

Lara had picked up the glass of juice and wanted to sip from it to calm her nervousness when Kayla mentioned that Curtis can never make any woman a mother and she choked.
She started coughing and Kayla went to her, helping her to be calm. And when Lara eventually regained her composure, her eyes had gone reddened.
"Are you alright now?" Kayla asked. She wasn’t paying attention to her friend. She was carried away with explanations of things she wasn’t asked.
"I’m fine now" Lara responded with a forced smile. She has suddenly lost interest in staying any longer. What she’d heard about Curtis Rodney was enough to last her a few days.
Kayla smiled with relief. She held Lara’s hand in both of hers. She’s told Joel about Lara and they both have decided to be there for her.
"Yes, tell me about Curtis Rodney. I have talked too much already" Kayla asked and Lara’s face went pale again.
"Oh, I was going to tell you I was hired by his company" She replied changing the subject entirely. How can she spill the beans, telling her she was pregnant with his child or that they had a contract marriage?
"He pays well. He is the highest paying employer and if he finds you good at what you do, he’ll increase your incentives.
Considering his past and yours, I sincerely wish he would notice you and pass you a glance. He suddenly detest women. But with your beauty and brain, you should try to get noticed" Kayla stuttered winking seductively at her friend.
"Oh, please,"Lara said with a wave of hand. She doesn’t need to get noticed by him. His babies in her belly have automatically done the connection.
When they parted ways, Lara couldn’t take her mind off Kayla’s words. Are those rumours true or were they fabricated to dent his image?
But then, in every rumour, there are elements of truth. A woman cannot just walk away from a man at the altar. To say the least, a man as Curtis Rodney?
He is screaming perfection in looks and financial stability. He is the desire of most women and his ex couldn’t think of a better time to jilt him except at the altar?
And to think that, she turned to his best man and got married to him. There’s more to this puzzle. It will take time, but she’ll unravel it. She’ll find out the truth about it all.
No wonder, he chases her around because of the mistaken sperm inseminated into her. It probably took him a lot of effort to get it done.
And to say he wants a surrogate mother, and not a wife to birth his baby,was worth being considered. He probably was afraid of failing in his conjugal duty.
That must be it. He cannot stand it.
When Lara got back to the mini villa, Benny was waiting for her. She brought her freshly blended mixed fruit and Lara accepted it.
"Ms. Benny, please don’t treat me like I am a fragile woman. I can take care of myself. Just sit back and enjoy" Lara pleaded.
She’d practically lived as a maid to Mike. She does all these chores and prepares his meal. And at night, she stayed up fulfilling her conjugal duty without knowing that she was doing it in vain.
She was only working hard to keep him fitted for Tolu. What a woman goes through for the sake of a man’s happiness, cannot be over estimated.
"No Miss Edmund. To have been entrusted to look after you, is a great responsibility. I can’t afford to let you do anything in your present condition, I should never allow you dear" Ms Benny explained.
This baby means a lot to Curtis and his family. If anything goes wrong, she would be blamed for it for the rest of her life.
"But I..." Lara began but Ms Benny clasped her hands together, and pleaded "Please, let me do this job. After such a long time, I saw happiness on Curtis’ face and it’s because of the baby in your belly.
Please let me do everything I can, for you, the baby and keep him happy forever" Ms Benny pleaded,her hands clasped together,her eyes moist.
Lara was lost again. What is actually happening with Curtis?
