A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 27: Jilted at the altar
Relief washed over her. Now, she’s got a job and doesn’t have bills to pay. She’s got accommodation for the time being in Curtis villa. She needs to concentrate on her job and ensure that her unborn babies are safe.
"Take the day off. By tomorrow, you can resume properly. But I would like you to accompany me to dinner tonight" Curtis requested.
Lara glared at him. He already wants her to accompany him, isn’t that interference? She wants to refuse immediately but he added quickly
"We’ll be visiting my parents. My sister will be around too. I would like them to know you as my wife" He explained flippantly.
It wasn’t for naught that he wants a surrogate mother. It’s definitely for a purpose. And when his parents discover that he’s married and his wife is expecting their baby, that triggers excitement in them.
"Fine," She nodded. She would make it but before then, she needs to see Kayla for lunch. There’s a lot they needed to catch up with.
"I could shift my meetings while we head to the marriage bureau to obtain a certificate, or what do you think?" He suggested.
Lara thought about it quickly and agreed. After all, they would be meeting his parents. They needed legal evidence to convince them.
An hour later, they were through at the bureau and Lara’s new chauffeur drove her to a separate destination from Curtis.
Lara called Kayla. The happy excited friend answered her phone quickly "Hi girlfriend" she chimed. Thinking about the devil, she called.
"Can we go for lunch together?" Lara requested. They have a lot to talk about. It’s time she let her in. She can’t trust friends anymore, but she can let someone know how she’s faring.
"Sure. Just tell me where?" Kayla responded. What will she be doing that would keep her away from having lunch with Lara? She likes that woman a lot.
"Ok, let me at Pacific Restaurant," Lara informed. Now she’s not a wealthy woman but at least she has a few dollars to spare in having lunch with her friend.
"On my way already" Kayla chimed and hung up. She arranged her desk and stood up,she needed to meet her friend,Lara shouldn’t be left waiting for so long.
Lara glanced at her diamond designed wedding band. She gently pulled it out of her ring finger and kept it away. The ring was going to be won only when necessary.
She doesn’t need anyone to tell her, she could tell it costs a fortune. A fortune to her though, but not to Mr Curtis. Hundreds of dollars were peanuts to him but she, it meant a lot.
She waited and Kayla arrived. They were happy together and Kayla asked "How’re you doing,Lara?" She was worried sick when she heard that she was hospitalized.
She would have loved coming over to see her but she doesn’t know where she lives. Seeing her looking alright, she sighed softly for relief.
"I’m fine. Thanks for being worried about me" Lara chimed. She saw her eyes, her worries visibly seen. But she needs not to be worried about her, she’s fine and her health is stable.
Kayla smiled, she cupped Lara’s cheeks in her palm. The waiter approached their table and they both made their orders.
Midway through the meal, Kayla remembered something important "I’ve gotten you an interview the day after tomorrow. I hope it favours you this time, "she chimed.
She’d lobbied for it and she got it. She is certain that Lara would like it. It isn’t a big company like the millennium entertainment center but at least, it’s enough to pay her bills and have some savings as well.
Meanwhile she continued "It’s in the Zenith multi fashion magazine. You’ll like it. A talented designer like you would definitely excel there" she added.
Lara paused, took a sip from her juice and gently pushed her dish aside. She’d lost appetite for the food. She’d been having that feeling for a few days now.
Perhaps early pregnancy was already affecting her. Her hormones are changing quite rapidly.
"Thanks Kayla for everything you are doing,I honestly appreciate it. But I just got hired this morning. I might have to decline all interviews now" she smiled.
She’d been interviewed by Curtis Rodney and gotten a job immediately. This is enough for her to survive for the time being.
"That’s beautiful. Wow, happy for you Lara" Kayla chimed. Now, her belly feels sweet. How can a talented and brilliant woman like her stay without a job for years?
First, it was that scumbag who persuaded her from working, a full house wife was what he wanted and he got it. And now, he’s in the arms of a working class lady.
And when she was free from those shackles, she couldn’t get a job easily. "Thanks" Lara appreciated.
She soon finished her meal when Lara said "Kayla, I need to tell you something" she started and paused. Kayla’s eyes lit up with curiosity.
"I met someone by accident" she trailed off and Kayla nodded, waiting patiently but increasing her level of curiosity as her gaze fixed on her without blinking.
"Curtis Rodney" She blurted out his name and Kayla squinted, a faint smile plastered on her face. She hadn’t heard the full gist but that name sends a vibe.
"You. Meaning the same popular figure, Curtis Rodney, the CEO of the millennium entertainment world?" Kayla inquired more and Lara nodded.
"What about him, tell me Lara" Kayla urged. She met him by accident and then what happened? Before Lara could say a word, she asked "Did he make advances to you or did you make love?"
Lara blushed. She eyed Kayla jokingly and said "Naughty girl, it’s none of that"
"Oh, sorry, I’ve been too forward. For some time now, nothing is heard about his romantic life anymore after his fiance Jilted him at the altar and got married to his friend, invariably the best man because she loves him more..."Kayla flippantly recounted.
Lara was dazed, staring at Kayla without a word. Jilted at the altar?
