A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 432: Fish Dish
Chapter 432: Fish Dish
The smell of the dishes that permeates the nose has made the surrounding people helping with the cooking process salivate just from smelling the whole thing. It was quite aromatic, and even those meat lovers like Arthur and Raye couldn’t help but wipe off the drool from their mouths. It is quite the smell that, if possible, they want to immediately have a bite of each food.
"Wow, I knew a few fish that can replicate the aroma of regular meat, but this is the first time a fish that wasn’t part of my radar was this aromatic when cooked!" Elaina exclaimed after she opened the pot’s lid on the fish soup she was cooking.
"Indeed. I am not really a fan of fish since I barely ate any back when I was still on my own, but I don’t mind eating a fish like this if it tastes like regular meat," Yona said, who can’t help but also wipe the drool on her mouth.
"Mom, is it done already?" Arthur asked while his eyes were fixated on the pot itself.
"Calm down, Arthy, food will be ready soon enough. Back off a bit or you will fall into the pot if you keep leaning near it," Elaina said, smiling at Arthur, who is already holding his own bowl and spoon, ready to dig in once the soup is done.
"Mom, don’t call me that! I don’t like that nickname at all! I think Art or just full Arthur instead of Arthy, which is a bit cringey!"
Elaina can only smile. Although Arthur thinks that way, she still thinks it is cute.
After a few stirs here and there, Elaina can tell that the soup is ready to be served.
"Alright, this is ready. Alright, line up and get your plates and bowls ready if you want to eat."
Hearing that, the others quickly headed back inside and gathered their favorite plates and bowls as Elaina started to distribute the food to everyone who wanted to eat.
The very first one who got to taste the food is none other than Arthur, who is already prepared. Elaina scooped a bit on her ladle and put it in the bowl of Arthur. She fills it up until it is nearly full, not enough to spill completely. Once the soup is already on his hands, he didn’t wait to sit down and quickly scoop a spoonful of soup and sip it. As soon as the soup enters his mouth and runs through his tongue and throat, his eyes open wide, and his face displays a look of contentment and a blush on his cheeks. One can tell that he is totally satisfied by the food that after he felt the feeling of the heat on his body, he started to sip another one more and another.
Elaina proceeded to distribute the food further to the others, and almost everyone had already started eating the soup made from the giant fish.
"Wow, I have never tasted such a good fish before. I know Miss Elaina can cook great dishes, and some of her fish dishes are something I did enjoy, even though I don’t like fish much, but this fish reminds me of a good old bear meat for some unknown reason!" Yona exclaimed as she ate the fish meat like nothing.
"Is this how bear meat tastes like even though I am eating fish?" Raye’s eyes sparkled when Yona exclaimed how similar the taste of the fish meat and the bear meat was to each other.
"Meat bear is a bit stronger but it has distinct taste that when you eat it, you will immediately be able to tell, however, this fish does have similar aspects of the bear meat that if you are not someone who eats bear meat regularly like me back then, then you will easily mistake it for one."
Everyone started chatting about her dish and how it was good. Seeing that everyone seemed to have a positive reaction, Elaina also decided to eat a bit and see for herself how it tasted. As soon as she put a spoonful of the fish and the soup into her mouth, her tongue seemed to quickly grasp the flavor of the soup, and her mouth quickly started chewing, allowing her to determine the taste of the fish meat. The more she chews, the more she can agree with Yona’s words about the fish meat being a bit similar. The only difference is that the fish meat is quite soft and easy to chew compared to regular bear meat, which would be a bit chewy if not tender. The fish meat easily melts into the mouth, making it different in different aspects.
Elaina quickly finishes her food, and her mind immediately sparks with ideas on what to cook next. While the others are still enjoying the fish soup, Elaina has moved on to the next dish and which is the Baked Fish.
Although Baked Fish considers cooking a whole fish as an ideal fish to use, a slice of the fish meat, like on tuna, is also applicable and is are good alternative to other fish. And considering the crimson fish’s meat is quite big, it’s only logical that Elaina can use a bit of its meat to cook the fish and try it out for herself.
Following the instructions, Elaina prepared the usual ingredients for marinating meat. She includes a variety of herbs that enhance the smell and taste of the fish, as well as other sauces that would give flavor to the meat further. Once the marinade is complete, Elaina places the marinade in a container that can be sealed and adds a huge chunk of sliced meat to the marinade. Once the fish is already on the marinade, she closed the container, then put it in the freezer. She is fortunate that Troy gifted her a freezer as an upgrade to her previous freezing storage, but it was a bit expensive to keep the freezer up, as it always needs to have a standby magic stone to keep it running which is why she only uses it to freeze important items and easily perishable items.
Once the fish is ready, Elaina prepared the magic stone-powered oven and places the marinated fish in a container that can be inserted into the oven as its container. After that, as soon as the fish is ready, she puts the magic stone in the oven and turns the oven on to make the magic work.
While she was working on the Baked Fish, Elaina began preparing another set of fish flesh for the sashimi platter. Although the sashimi platter is simple, Elaina wanted to test whether the sashimi of the crimson fish would work or not, as some fish can’t be used for sashimi. She wanted to prepare the fish and let either Yona or Julia see if the sashimi is safe to be eaten.
DING!
The sound of the oven alerted Elaina, and she stopped what she was doing to head over to the oven and see the result of her baked fish. As soon as the baked fish had been taken out of the oven, the aroma spread around the house, and Elaina couldn’t help but drool. Thankfully, the others are still eating the fish soup, so Elaina has a chance to taste the baked fish herself without the others voicing their reactions to the food.
Taking out a morsel of the fish, Elaina chews the baked fish and smiles with a nod. "Good. This will do nicely indeed."
As expected, Elaina’s dish worked wonders and was also successful. With the first test related to the Baked Fish, Elaina is now ready to use this dish to impress the royalty and the aristocrats. It won’t be as great as the crimson fish’s flesh itself, but the other fish will still taste good, and that is what matters. After all, if one besides the people on the farm knows about the fish’s existence, it might cause chaos and disrupt peace on her farm. And she will do her best to protect that peace a while longer.
