Chapter 430: Fish Inspection

Legendary fishes are new concept for Elaina. She haven’t heard something like this being mentioned before so hearing it from the God of Fishing is something that she was foreign of so she continued listening on the explanation while looking at the fish that has been frozen and is being inspected by everyone.

"[Legendary fishes are considered to be too hard to catch or something that has been seen before or has not been proven to be a real fish. There are many records of those kinds of fishes and one of them is the crimson fish with the size enough to swallow a human whole. However, since it has no name and only a few individuals have seen the creature and there hasn’t been any kind of proof it is real since it hasn’t been caught at all, it became just a legend and hasn’t been given a proper name aside from calling them crimson fish. But since you successfully caught it and fully observed the whole fish, I can confidently name it as such. And based on its features, it is a giant carp and with its color that seemingly resembles a cloth soaked with blood, I decided to name it like that.]" the God of Fishing explained.

"[Your naming sense sucks! Crimson fish sounds more fine and simple as it is! Making it longer like Bloodsoaked yada yada is just going to confuse everyone who thinks about it. All they can say is that they will keep calling it a crimson fish!]" the God of Farming quickly criticize the naming sense of the God of Fishing just like that.

"[Doesn’t matter how bad my naming sense is, most of the fish I caught are all named by me anyways and not my Father. So even if you don’t approve of the name, it will be its official name.]"

While the two gods are bickering over the name of the fish, Elaina inspects the fish inside the clear ice. And just like what the God of Fishing have said, it does have similarities to regular carps, just that this one is much bigger and is has an unusual color that is not available or quite rare for carps to manifest. The only issue Elaina has on this fish is if it can eat a human and if it have already consumed a human. A fish that has already consumed a human is no longer fit for consumption and must be discarded as soon as possible due to how the smell will smell so bad if cooked.

"Julia, can you please thaw the ice? I needed to check if this fish is good for consumption."

Julia nodded and snap her fingers, causing the ice to return into water immediately, splashing to the ground and leaving the dead fish lying on the grass.

"This fish is quite big. Are we sure it came from the stream?" Yona still can’t believe the fish came from the stream.

"Does that mean Mom have seen this swimming around before it was caught?" Mier is worried about her mother.

"Don’t worry about your mother. I am sure that the abode of the Harvest Goddess is not something a mere fish can easily intrude without the permission of the Harvest Goddess herself," Layla tried to calm Mier.

"I still feel like I needed to check on Mom first," Mier said before returning to the abode of the Harvest Goddess, leaving the others.

"Can’t blame her, this fish is big. If something like this flies above the house and causing chaos, I would alsi freak out," Arthur shrugged.

Both Raye and Adelaide are too busy poking the fish to say anything but Elaina can’t blame them. Even her wanted to poke on it to see if it will still move. But since it won’t be moving anymore, there is no need for her to poke on it.

Pulling out the knife on her belt that she always keep whenever she is fishing, she tried to check the gills first and see if would smell bad. The first sign a fish has eaten a human is the disgusting stench it would emit once its gills have been inspected. When she opened the gills of the fish, the disgusting smell she expected is absent, just the fishy smell that is common on all fishes. But that is not enough and she needed to check its innards to fully confirm it.

"Boys, can you carry this fish over at the table over there?" Elaina points on the outdoor table that is only there to put the tools that Elaina is going to use for farming.

The two nodded and quickly pick up the fish.

"What the...I was prepared to use a lot of my strength since it is big but it was quite light!" Raye was not expecting the weight of the fish.

"You didn’t use your strength to pick it up? Seriously? It was so light!" Arthur couldn’t believe it either.

The two easily carried the big fish into the table and the two still couldn’t believe it. Either the fish is too light or the two have gotten stronger.

"Good job, boys. Now, give a bit of distance, yes? We needed to get messy."

The two move a bit further and Elaina grab the apron on the toolshed that is specifically used when she cleans fish outside and wear it in case blood splatters a lot. Now that she is fully ready, she quickly positioned her knife to the belly and started to slice the fish...only for her knife to snap and break to pieces.

"...What?" Elaina was a bit startled seeing the result. She stares at the broken knife blade sitting on the table and the handle she was holding.

"Sis...the knife is broken...it seems the fish has a strong skin to withstand a knife."

"If not a knife, how about a mana knife? This is how I butcher the hunted animals back when I was living alone and no monster hide is tough enough to handle it," Yona suggested. fгeewebnovёl.com

"True! Master taught me how to do that and it is actually quite capable. Here, Sis, let me do this."

Julia straightened her fingers on her left hand and she infused mana on her hand, forming a blade.

Elaina stepped away from the fish and let Julia do the task since she knows how to do it. Julia immediately went to work and started working her way to the fish. It wasn’t hard and she didn’t have trouble with cutting the belly of the fish and ensuring the innards of the fish isn’t damaged by her mana knife. Once the belly is fully open, Elaina went close and sniffs the fish and when only the usual fishy smell remained, Elaina turned to look at both Julia and Yona.

"Can you two use a magic spell if we can detect whether the thing is poisonous or not? We can’t just blindly eat some unknown fish and ended up dying since we couldn’t confirm if it was poisonous. Most poisonous fish are hard to know if poisonous unless consumed."

The two nodded and they cast their spells to detect any poisonous substance inside the fish or even on its body. Seeing that they are not sensing anything, the two shook their heads.

"Negative. Can’t detect anything," Yona said, shaking her head.

"Same here," Julia seconded.

Confirming the fish is safe for consumption, Elaina smiled.

"Alright, looks like we will have a feast tonight, this fish is edible!"

Hearing this, everyone rejoiced as the fishes this big is comparable in taste with regular meat, perhaps even better.

While everyone is celebrating, Elaina quickly asked the God of Fishing. "God of Fishing, if this fish is considered a legendary fish, does that mean I can’t catch one anymore?"

"[No, you can still catch one but since it is considered a rarity, there is a high chance that you will not be seeing the fish again...of course, it can change and one might get lucky to meet and catch it again. I can detect that the fish is not alone of its kind. We can still expect to meet another one if you are lucky, Elaina.]"

Hearing that, Elaina sighed in relief. She would feel guilty if she killed the only fish of its kind and made a fish extinct as a result of doing so.

"I am glad that is the case. But catching one once more will not be easy nor it will be possible again for quite a while. I have been fishing in these waters for quite some time already and this is the first time I have seen a fish like this appear here. But since we have this fish now, might as well enjoy the blessings that we will receive for eating a fish like this."

"[With a fish like that, it would have been a great catch to show off to the banquet.]"

Hearing that, Elaina turned to look at Princess Margaux. "How about we present this fish in the banquet, Princess?"

As soon as she asked, Princess Margaux shook her head. "No. Considering how rare this fish is, it is best to keep it a secret and leave it remain as one. If more people tries to hunt for it, many people might try to come here and trespass your property just to fish."

With the Princess’s valid reasoning, Elaina decided that this will be the only time she will be consuming something that she might not be consuming again.

Now that the fish is already confirmed to be safe for consumption, time to clean the fish and prepare it for cooking.
