Chapter 402: Work During War [III]

If there is currently someone managing the labyrinth’s environment, they would be totally pissed with Elaina plundering the soil of the dungeon. Those managers would start questioning themselves on why the soil is included in the plundering process that would disappear the moment someone enters the dungeon. Of course, no one actually knows but for Elaina, she didn’t care if it was a property of the dungeon. Monsters has no laws applicable to raiders like her and if they are part of the labyrinth, then it is free for the taking.

"Another bountiful harvest again! Now, time to get the boss killed and proceed to the next strata."

Like usual, the first boss on the boss floor remains the same. And so, Elaina just quickly disposed of it and proceed to the next strata.

2nd Strata.

Compared to the ruins type environment in the first strata, the second strata is similar to ancient tombs. Torches and various skeletons are scattered all over the place, and the place being full of sand makes the place a lot different from the previous one where it is a bit more damp and a bit cold. The second strata is a lot colder and a lot more dry than ever.

Elaina pulls out her notes that she got from her grandfather after he gave him the observation logs of the Adventurer’s guild to be distributed to all Labyrinth divers as a way to know what to expect on the next strata. Since map cannot be used due to how the layout changes from person to person every time someone entered the labyrinth, the only useful thing recorded are the observation of the pioneers who explored it first.

"Alright, let’s see the info, hmmm...traps debut on this strata as various kinds of traps can be triggered and will be totally dangerous if not seen in advance. Although traps are not a good sign, there is one redeeming quality of this place and that is the low number of monsters in the area and one can possibly not encounter a single one if they are being careful about it. Not only that but the usability of the traps laid around are not just there to delay your progress as they not only trigger to the adventurers but also to monsters. Utilizing set traps on the map and purposely luring on them are something that would easily destroy monsters easily. Wow, a trap that works both ways, that’s more like it."

Traps are pretty common in some dungeons especially if there are goblins in the area. They are varied and depending on the environment, it can either be a pitfall trap, snare traps, or the most common trap, the bear trap.

Learning the second strata’s main mechanic, Elaina carefully checked the ground and not too far from her is a pitfall trap disguised as a regular floor. The only reason Elaina recognized it is because the color of the floor is different. At first, Elaina is not sure so she first checked it out by throwing a rock on the tile and the moment the rock landed on the tile, the tile collapses revealing a pitfall of spikes. She can even see a few dead bodies below that has already rotted as they cannot be retrieved anymore.

"Pretty nasty trap if one does not pay attention to the environment."

Elaina continues her way and soon enough, Elaina got the hang of dodging the traps. They are pretty straightforward but they are dangerously hidden so well that she can understand some adventurers falling victim on them. However, this isn’t going to affect her as she have observed and disarm all traps she encounters. She even found a few bear traps which by the way, she disarmed and put on the inventory for personal use. After all, if it is in the labyrinth, then it is free for the taking.

It didn’t take Elaina too long to find the next floor of the current strata and just like what the journal have said, she didn’t encounter any monster on the way. Either she is too lucky or she have used a route that has no monsters. Either way of that is fine. Perhaps the lack of monsters also signifies that the path she took is the area where treasures does not spawn which is why the monsters are not prioritizing the place from guarding.

"For a tomb design, this is pretty lackluster."

After making that comment, she descended to the next floor and to her surprise, the next floor was a safe zone.

"Don’t tell me the next floor is a dungeon boss already?"

The God of Farming who is waiting for Elaina to reach a safe zone immediately contacts Elaina the moment she steps into the safe zone’s floor.

"[That’s a bit quick, Elaina. I thought you are heading to the labyrinth right? I expected you to have taken a bit longer but you seemed to have arrived faster on a safe zone much quicker than before?]"

"I was surprised too, but considering how different the current strata to the first one, perhaps I got lucky and entered a generated area of the labyrinth that immediately made me enter a safe zone after traversing the first zone easily?"

"[If that is the case, isn’t that much better? The faster you arrive on the boss room, the better it will be.]"

"Indeed. Oh, by the way, God of Farming. Looks like my guess was right, when I returned to the same area before when I entered the labyrinth last time and plundered some soil, this time, I also got myself a new batch of soil for the taking for myself. This will be great for growing more stuff considering how good it is when I grow the medicinal plants myself."

"[Nice one. I knew you would prioritize that. A good soil is vital for a healthy plant after all. Just be careful using that in the future as that is still from the dungeon. Be sure to check it right after arriving to ensure you are not accidentally growing something ominous from the dungeon.]"

After the little chat she had with the God of Farming, Elaina decided to leave the safe zone immediately considering that she didn’t fight much, she doesn’t need to rest and heal up. She can proceed to the next floor.

And as soon as she descended and arrived on the next floor, she was greeted with a very tall stone wall that seems to only belong to tombs that are considered to be totally from the rulers or ancient kings or queens of various lands. Seeing it right now, Elaina can tell that the next boss will be some kind of an undead just by watching at the current team.

Unfortunately, it seems that she isn’t going to head straight to the boss for now as the two iron golems that are sitting in front of the door starts to clang their machinery gears and move.

"Looks like main reason this strata seems to be light in enemy side is because of this challenge eh?"

The two Iron Golems began to assume combat stance as they locked eyes with Elaina approaching the two.

"You two better stand aside, I am in a hurry," Elaina said to the two golems before readying her sword.

Although it doesn’t seem to understand what Elaina just said, the moment Elaina grab her weapon of choice, the two Iron Golems began to work to repel the intruder. The gears on their body might be calm but they are clearly ready to dominate whoever foolish enough to fight it.
