A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 391: "Borrowed"
Chapter 391: "Borrowed" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
7 years can be considered long or short, depending on one’s perspective of time. For some people, it is short especially if they are busy in life. Without realizing it, they have already ended year worth of lifetime and not realizing it. As for those who consider it a long time, are some people who are not productive enough and will keep complaining that the days passing by are so slow.
Of course, Elaina is the former. She did a lot of things in the past few years developing her farm to the fullest of her capability just to ensure that it will keep on producing food and supply even if things get rough in the market. Combined with the dungeon farm where she can put seasonal crops there to plant, one can say that Elaina’s life is so eventful that one who experiences the events Elaina is doing so far will make them faint from tiredness.
Still, Elaina wouldn’t last this long without the help of the gods who are kind to her and of course, the Almanac, the blessing that the God of Farming gave to her that extended to the other gods as well.
Now that Elaina had stabilized the farm significantly, Elaina is now going to focus on the goals she was supposed to do before but ended up shelving just so she can focus on the farm’s growth.
But with years passing by, changes will also accompany growth. And Elaina is not excluded from that.
....
....
....
"ARTHUR! RAYE!"
Elaina shouting Arthur’s and Raye’s name early in the morning that everyone around the farm can hear her voice is nothing new to everyone. Considering how Arthur and Raye became the usual troublemakers, they have become more mischievous than when they were still very young but when they have turned seven, the two have become the major troublemakers of the farm that Elaina screaming their name so loud is something that everyone expected.
"Mother? What is going on? Did Arthur and Raye once again did something?!" Adelaide comes rushing in as soon as she heard the shout. Behind her are Mier and the mermaid who stayed in the land as Elaina took her in. Compared to Raye who she adopted as her son, she didn’t adopt the mermaid as the mermaid still believes that her real parents are still alive under the sea and is still pretty much hopeful of this to be true. Elaina didn’t force her about it.
With Elaina taking the mermaid under her wing, the mermaid decided to adopt the name Layla as her name while she is on land. She wanted to start anew but keep her memories of the past with her. And so, she decided to ditch of her mermaid legs. With their help, they managed to convert her tail into regular feet. She can return to her regular anytime but since it is impractical to keep the tail while on land, she basically keep it on the side and keep her regular feet to function normally. With her starting from early days of her childhood, she easily mastered walking with her legs with the help of Adelaide and Arthur who was always by her side.
Nowadays, she is now hanging out with Mier and Adelaide though she also does hang out with the two boys, but not usually as they are always looking for mischief.
"Arthur took my sword again and sneaked off once more to the forest, dragging Raye with him again!" Elaina can only scratch her head after realizing her sword is once again missing.
Lately, Arthur’s fascination with her mother’s sword is very big considering that he keeps on "borrowing" it only for him to have a hard time using it due to how heavy it is. Based on Raye’s testimony whenever Elaina "interrogates" them the moment they got home, Arthur is currently trying to unsheathe the blade only to fail. Not only does the blade cannot be removed from its scabbard, it is also very heavy that swinging it is an effort. As a result, Arthur decided to "borrow" this sword and use it as some sort of blunt weapon instead and swings it around.
"Should we drag them back home? We know where they always stay in the forest even though the layout of the place changes every time," Mier suggested.
However, Elaina shook her head. "No, its fine. They are big boys now. Sometimes they needed to learn about the danger they are all in and realize how their adventure seeking shenanigans are all not some sort of fantasy tale of being a hero."
"Well, if that is the case, Mother, we won’t object about it. We heard from uncle Troy how you survived the wilderness alone with just that sword before so perhaps the two are emulating it. And considering how they know how to gauge danger will be, I think they will be fine," Adelaide shakes her head.
"Still a bit reckless, no? It’s not like he can take out the sword out from the scabbard like Mother here. They are treating that sword like some regular stick," Layla is too blunt in terms of speaking the truth.
"Sure, but I know my brother. Even if he is different in temperament than me, he is still my twin and I know more things than he knew about himself," Adelaide sighed.
Elaina stood up and sighed. "Looks like I will take the pickaxe this time around. With my sword "borrowed" this time around, gotta make do with alternatives," Elaina sighed. She isn’t mad that Arthur took her sword, but she is going to use the sword at that moment as she was going to be looking for new monsters to tame nowadays.
"Are you going to survey the forest again, Mom?" Layla asked.
"Yes. And while I am at it, bring back Arthur and Raye as well. Since you girls said you all have an idea where they are, then I will need a guide to get them back. It’s a good day for foraging after all."
Hearing this, the girls are all excited especially Mier and Layla as they always look forward on finding berries and fruits in the forest that every time Elaina wanted to go to the forest, they will immediately try to tag along. Adelaide is used to it and thanks to her experience, she is somehow teaching the girls on what to do while they are exploring the place. Considering her past life’s occupation, Elaina didn’t need to keep guiding them to things that they already know.
"Alright girls, go and prepare for the exploration. Be sure to wear appropriate clothes alright? We don’t know if there are monsters present there and without my usual weapon, I will be less effective in battles. Mier, ask your Mother for permission as well. Can’t allow you to just go there without getting permission from her first."
"Yes, Ma’am!" the young girl excitedly said and headed back home to get permission. Even with her, living with her Mom, Elaina does think of her as some extended daughter that she didn’t adopt nor raise. After all, Mier is a good kid.
Adelaide and the girls head to their respective rooms and began to prepare for their expeditions as well. As for Elaina, she only needed to wait for them to be finished.
"[With how busy you have been for these past few years, one would think that you would have started neglecting your kids, but seeing you so close in relationship with everyone, they might have been wondering how you are doing everything normally.]" the God of Farming talked to Elaina, noticing the growing bond she have with the children.
"As a single mother, things are hard enough to balance things efficiently. However, considering that I always try my best to keep the balance in check, I must say I must be doing well."
"[Considering how many parents nowadays seems to forget they have children to take care of, even though you are always busy, you do get to have time to interact and bond with them and that alone is enough for your kids to say that you have always remembered them even if you are busy with work. Keep at it.]"
"Ha, thanks for the advice as always, God of Farming. With these advices, I am starting to believe that you are someone who should also take the nickname of "God of Advices," Elaina joked around.
"[Hey, no. Stop that. I would rather stick my business with what I know rather than becoming a new god. I am content with my job, thank you.]"
"Mom! We are ready!" Adelaide’s voice came from the stairs as they come down. Even Mier has already prepared herself as well with a small bag on her side to gather herbs and nuts.
"Looks like you girls took your time, anyways, let’s go. Might as well bring back the two with us while we are at it, alright?"
"Yes!"
And so, everyone is ready to depart when Yona quickly stopped Elaina from leaving just yet.
"Miss Elaina! I just detected that both Raye and Arthur are both in danger right now."
"What?! What’s going on?" Elaina frowned.
"It seems they have come across bandits right no and are fighting against them!"
Elaina frowned hearing this.
For the first time, instead of monsters, Elaina didn’t expect that the ones who are threatening things for everyone is none other than bandits.
"Something is happening. With how the forest shouldn’t even have any bandits, except for monsters, that means those vagrants are just recent occupiers."
Learning about this info, she didn’t hesitate to quickly go to where Arthur and Raye. They try to mess with her sons and they will be sent to personally meet the judgement god and she will be the one who will be fulfilling that.
