A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 368: Acceptance?
Chapter 368: Acceptance?
After the incident that Elaina witnessed, the Elevator that she was looking for appeared, and a new ladder leading deeper into the mines appeared near the place where the elevator door appeared. It seems that it was hidden by Raye’s crystals, which also hid the two things that Elaina was looking for.
But since Elaina has no more business to go down to the next floor, Elaina took the elevator and returned to the surface with her mission accomplished splendidly with a kid to bring over as a bonus.
"This is certainly a big surprise if I say so myself. I came here to take all those materials we needed and I came back with a kid in tow. I just hope that the others would be more understanding about Raye and wish that things would go smoothly. I don’t want to start drawing my sword just to defend Raye from anyone who will try to kill him."
Elaina is definitely nervous while looking at Raye. He might be from the Devil Race, the race that always gives birth to the Demon Lords that bring destruction to humanity and would bring forth the Dark Ages multiple times just so they could exact their anger on the world for whatever reason.
"Then again, there might be a big reason why they became a demon lord. After all, even though demon lords were more common with people who belonged to the Devil Race in the past, there were records that the demon lord was actually a human and according to the records, the strongest demon lord who almost annihilated the world back in the past was not a Devil, but a human who has nothing to lose. Since Raye is still a baby, I will make sure he will grow up with love and keep him away from any influence that will make him lose his way."
DING!
The elevator door opens and Elaina can hear the rain outside. She can tell that she came out at the same hour she went inside the mines. Elaina still has no grasp of how long time would flow in the mines while thinking about how the dwarves track their time. But Elaina didn’t care whether she went out of the mines earlier since she spent the whole time inside the mines for very long she might as well spend more than twenty-four hours in a day right now. Looking at the baby, Elaina took out her umbrella and went outside the mine entrance. She is now steeling herself, on whatever the reaction of everyone on the farm. She is not so optimistic but she hopes for the best.

"Good Job Sis! If you are willing to make the sacrifice of loving and raising a Devil kid like him, we will have fewer worries about the appearance of a new demon lord. I must say that I am impressed that you didn’t immediately start doing what regular people would do to him the moment they realize his race," Julia said while holding Raye in her arms. It seems she is amazed at Raye’s existence instead of feeling fear.
"You are not mad, Julia?"
"What’s to be mad about, Sis? Considering how you are so open and kind to everyone including various races without discriminating against them, I thought that also extended to the Devil Race. I kinda rolled out and accepted that little fact already and it’s like what you said, this baby is not a villain yet. You can still mold him to become a good person rather than grow into what we will fear someday."
Princess Margaux nodded. "Don’t worry, Miss Elaina. Just so you know, Devil races do exist here in Darcero Kingdom and my parents are currently helping them keep their existence a secret from the outside world to ensure their safety. Just so you know, Darcero Kingdom openly tries to keep every race welcome, no matter what they are. And that includes the Devil Race. That is why you don’t need to feel afraid that you brought a baby from the Devil Race with you back from where you found him. But I do know your fears, Miss Elaina. After all, even my parents feared that the existence of the Devil Race living in the kingdom would be revealed to the outside forces and this would spark trouble and an excuse from various Kingdoms to launch an attack and declare war on our kingdom."
Although Elaina is a bit shocked by the revelation of Princess Margaux, she is happy that even royalty like Princess Margaux has no qualms regarding Raye’s existence. But the fear is indeed warranted. Considering some people’s mindset, and even the "Attack first and regret later" mindset just like what she almost did earlier before she was stopped by the God of Farming, it will be hard for Devil People to live without living through anonymity and staying outside the radar of others.
"Considering how Witchcraft was coined as "Devil’s Work" back then, I can understand the sentiments of some people and how fearmongering can definitely affect the mindset of many and affect their perception of something. Can’t say I don’t understand them, fear is something that is very hard to counter and people are naturally going to do something against something unknown to them, and their first instinct is to get rid of it before understanding it. Still good to know that this baby meets someone like you, Elaina. Other people won’t be so forgiving."
Elaina scratches her head. "Don’t praise me for doing this, I actually thought of doing the same thing as those people you all said just now. I just changed my mind when I remembered and realized I am a Mother too. I can’t just do something that would harm a baby who still doesn’t know what is happening in the world. I am still guilty and I don’t want to be praised for something I did after realizing it almost too late."
"Miss Elaina, don’t be too sorry for yourself. So what if you almost tried it? You eventually didn’t and made a rational judgment. Most people nowadays, will not think twice and only regret it after they have done it. Be proud that you managed to change your mindset pretty quick. Not all people can do that," Princess Margaux said, tapping Elaina’s shoulders as she approached Baby Raye.
Elaina still couldn’t feel happy even after the consolation. And yet she felt relieved that she did the right thing instead of following her first instinct.
Adelaide and Arthur are also looking at the baby with great interest. Adelaide approached Elaina on the sofa and whispered softly in her ear.
"I couldn’t believe you would give me another brother but I must say I am impressed, Mother. Having a sibling like Raye is something I haven’t experienced in my life. You can say that I think this is a more interesting life than I thought it would be."
Elaina scratched her head. Even Adelaide thinks so as well and she is someone who lived another life back then. Then, Arthur tugs on Elaina’s shirt.
"Mom? What is baby brother’s name?"
Julia also looked at Elaina. "Oh yeah, I was so preoccupied with holding the baby I forgot his name, did you already name him, Sis?"
"Yes, the moment I chose to adopt him as my son, I named him Raye. It means Ray of light or Protector. Something I want him to grow up to be."
Everyone nodded in agreement. Julia in particular is very happy with the name. "I must say that was a good name. As expected of Sister’s naming sense, amazing. Even though his race is something that is going to be a troublesome thing, the fact you decided to name him as "ray of light" and "protector" is already enough to say that you want him to grow into a responsible adult."
"I like it. Raye is easy to roll in the mouth, not too complicated and short," the witch smiled.
The door opens and the Harvest Goddess appears on the door while carrying a ring in her hand.
"I heard the news and how the Farmer decided to adopt a Devil kid. Considering how brave you are, Farmer, I still couldn’t believe that you are THIS brave. One might even call you a fool for doing this but I must say I applaud your decision of keeping him. He didn’t do anything wrong and he deserved to live this world even if sometimes it is a bit sh*tty."
"Can’t believe a goddess is capable of saying that," the witch shook her head.
"Hah, but did I say anything wrong? It is true so it didn’t really matter. Anyways, you might be already wondering what you will do to hide this kid’s features from the populace so that he can live a normal life, yes?"
Elaina nodded. "Yes. Even if I have adopted him as my kid, that doesn’t change the fact that he isn’t human. I can’t just waltz into the registration and tell them that he is from the Devil Race right?"
Princess Margaux nodded. "Yes, Miss Elaina. It requires some intervention from my parents to process paperwork to make someone from the Devil Race gain proper papers. And it usually involves falsifying some information, especially regarding their race."
"There you go. It just so happens I have a way to solve that problem," the Harvest Goddess then hands over Elaina a ring of silver color.
"That ring would hide the true identity of the wearer and allows one to disguise and remove some features of themselves. With this ring, you can easily hide this baby’s identity and yet keep him living like a regular human."
