Chapter 171: Chapter 171: You Seem to Be Getting Along Quite Well with Clara

"Huh... what?" Clara Grant didn’t understand what he meant at first.

"What I mean is, my brother is handsome, chivalrous, and rich—the spitting image of a perfect, domineering CEO. A lot of women are into him."

Clara couldn’t help but scoff internally. ’A lot of women like him? Hmph, he probably likes a lot of women, too. And he claims he’s not a player?’

"Any woman would be really happy to be my brother’s girlfriend or wife."

Clara’s fork unconsciously poked at the food on her plate. She was a little speechless. This was the second time today she’d heard someone sing Seth Quinn’s praises. ’Is he really that great?’

Something suddenly occurred to her. She turned to Miles Quinn and asked, "He... President Quinn looks to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, right? Has he really never had a girlfriend all these years?"

"Well, he did have a girlfriend once..." Miles started, then instinctively stopped. ’Why did I bring that up? Not only is it a taboo subject for my brother, but it’s a terrible idea to talk about his ex in front of his current sister-in-law, right?’

But Clara’s sharp ears had already caught it. She was perking them up to listen intently, but when she saw Miles stop talking, she looked at him in confusion.

"...Actually, she wasn’t really his girlfriend." Miles had to bite the bullet and try to smooth over what he’d just let slip. "It was more that the girl liked my brother. But she left later, and no one knows where she went. She hasn’t been back to Novaria since." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

’I hope Big Bro doesn’t blame me for being a blabbermouth later,’ he prayed. ’I really didn’t mean to!’

Miles’s words made Clara think of Cherie’s mother. ’Could he be talking about Cherie’s mom?’

’Cherie’s mother fell for Seth Quinn back then, and they slept together. Seth, being the fickle type, broke her heart, so she left town.’

’She must have unexpectedly given birth to Cherie, which is why she came back to Novaria to leave Cherie with Seth, right?’

’Hmph. And he still claims Cherie isn’t his child?!’

For some reason, a wave of bitterness washed over Clara. She lowered her head and didn’t say another word.

Watching her, Miles suddenly remembered the situation with Cherie and cursed himself internally. ’Damn it.’ He quickly rephrased his explanation. "But my brother is a very principled man. If he doesn’t like someone, he won’t let anything... inappropriate... happen with them."

’Nothing happened? Does that mean Cherie really isn’t his child?’

"Are you sure?" She hadn’t even realized she’d blurted out the question, her eyes brightening involuntarily.

"Of course." Miles stared at her sparkling eyes, momentarily stunned, then smiled. "Clara, you seem pretty interested in my brother, huh?"

"No..." Clara finally realized how she was coming across and quickly tried to cover it up. "I was just curious. It’s just surprising that a man as outstanding as President Quinn, who so many women like, could be so... self-disciplined. Heh."

"Not every outstanding man who’s popular with women is a player. Take me, for example." Miles winked at her, joking.

Clara let out a puff of laughter at his teasing. "Is it really okay to praise yourself so shamelessly?"

Faye Jennings walked in, her eyes sweeping the room. She happened to see Clara and Miles laughing and talking together.

Seeing Clara beaming sweetly at Miles, something shifted within Faye. She narrowed her bright eyes, as if deep in thought.

A moment later, she casually picked up a glass of red wine and walked over to them.

"Miles, Clara, what are you two talking about that’s so much fun?"

"Faye." Seeing her, Clara quickly greeted her.

"Mm," Faye Jennings nodded, her gaze drifting between her and Miles. She smiled suggestively. "Miles, you and Clara certainly seem to be hitting it off."
