A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 49: Mom, Stop Playing Matchmaker
In an instant, all eyes were on Vivian Quincy!
Jasper Ford asked Vivian Quincy with a complicated expression, "What are you doing in here? Get out."
Vivian Quincy’s gaze was fixed on Beanie, her mouth opening and closing...
Beanie saw Vivian Quincy too and hurriedly wiped the tears from his eyes. ’I can’t let Mommy see me cry, or she’ll be sad.’ After quickly drying his tears, Beanie scrambled up from the floor and said, "I’m fine."
He was speaking to Vivian Quincy, but everyone else thought Beanie was talking to them.
Vivian Quincy gripped the doorknob tightly. ’I want to rush in and hug Beanie so badly...’
"What are you spacing out for? Are the documents sorted?" Jasper Ford scolded her harshly.
Vivian Quincy snapped back to reality. Biting her lip, she reluctantly tore her gaze away from Beanie and said, "I’ll go right now."
"Miss Ford, Ford is always mean to people. No wonder he can’t get a wife." Beanie turned and tugged on Madam Ford’s sleeve to complain.
Madam Ford agreed with Beanie. She said to Jasper Ford, displeased, "You’re a grown man, what are you yelling at a young lady for? Even if she did her work incorrectly, you shouldn’t have shouted so loudly. Look, you even scared the child into tears."
Jasper Ford: "..."
’Fine, it’s all my fault.’
Used to taking the blame, Jasper Ford didn’t even want to explain anymore. He said in a low voice, "Why didn’t you let me know you were coming?"
"What, do we need to make an appointment?" Madam Ford retorted.
Jasper Ford shook his head. "Not at all, but I don’t have anything to eat here. Caden Chandler, go buy some snacks."
Caden Chandler was about to agree when Vivian Quincy eagerly cut in, "President Ford, let me go. I know what kids like to eat."
Jasper Ford raised an eyebrow at Vivian Quincy. "Fine, you go."
A huge smile spread across Vivian Quincy’s face. She couldn’t help but glance at Beanie a couple more times before carefully closing the door and running downstairs to buy cake.
Ten minutes later, Vivian Quincy returned with two large bags, including Beanie’s favorite yogurt drink.
Beanie was overjoyed. "This Black Forest cake, I love it! And this one, too! Thanks, Mo—" Beanie forced the word "Mommy" back down his throat.
The others noticed. They saw Beanie cradling the cake Vivian Quincy had bought for him as if it were a treasure, his grin stretching from ear to ear.
It was the first time Madam Ford had seen Beanie smile so happily. "You like cake this much?" she asked.
"Mhm." Beanie nodded obediently. He found a cream pudding that Vivian Quincy liked from the bag. "You have this."
Vivian Quincy glanced nervously at Jasper Ford and Madam Ford and didn’t take it.
Madam Ford said, "Take it if the child is giving it to you. Don’t worry, sit down and eat with us."
"But I still have work to do, and..." Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but glance at Jasper Ford.
Madam Ford smiled. "Don’t be afraid of him. I’m telling you to eat, so eat."
"Thank you." Vivian Quincy sat down and carefully opened the cake, taking a bite.
Beanie blinked his big, beautiful eyes happily and asked sweetly, "Is it good?"
"It’s delicious," Vivian Quincy replied with a smile and a nod.
Beanie was even happier. ’It’s been so long since I’ve eaten cake with Mommy.’ He took out a small box of cheesecake and pushed all the rest toward Vivian Quincy. This small gesture aroused Madam Ford’s suspicion, but before she could think too much about it, Beanie carefully presented the cheesecake to her. "Miss Ford, you like cheesecake, right? I saved this especially for you. Only you can eat it."
Madam Ford was pleasantly surprised. "Thank you, Beanie."
"Thank her," Beanie said, pointing at Vivian Quincy.
Madam Ford smiled and nodded. "Jasper, this assistant of yours is quite good. You’re not allowed to be so harsh with her anymore."
Jasper Ford glanced coldly at the several boxes of small cakes in front of Vivian Quincy. "Mom, instead of reminding me not to scold people, you’d be better off telling her how to improve her work efficiency."
Beanie was very angry when he heard that. He puffed up his cheeks and lifted his little face. "Ford, nobody will like you if you’re like this!"
Jasper Ford walked over, bent down, and gently pinched his chubby cheek. "You little pudge."
"Miss Ford, he hit me," Beanie tattled, throwing himself into Vivian Quincy’s arms.
Madam Ford paused for a moment, then smiled kindly. "You’ve thrown yourself at the wrong person. Come here, I’ll back you up."
Beanie reluctantly gave Vivian Quincy one last hug, then hung his head and obediently returned to Madam Ford’s side.
Caden Chandler knocked on the door from outside to remind Jasper Ford that the next meeting was about to start. Vivian Quincy said gently to Beanie, "I have to go to the meeting now."
"Okay." Beanie nodded obediently and tugged on Madam Ford’s sleeve. "Miss Ford, can I have lunch here?"
"Of course, you can." Madam Ford nodded readily. "What do you want to eat? I’ll take you out."
"I’ll eat whatever she eats," Beanie said with a grin, pointing at Vivian Quincy’s departing back.
Madam Ford could see that Beanie was very fond of Vivian Quincy, so she didn’t refuse. She contacted a nearby restaurant to make a reservation, planning to have Jasper bring his young assistant along to eat after he was done with work.
Just before the end of the workday, however, Hayden Kaye arrived. As usual, he was holding a large bouquet of roses and was sitting at Vivian Quincy’s desk waiting. Because Madam Ford was there, Caden Chandler didn’t dare to openly shoo him away.
Noticing Hayden Kaye, Madam Ford walked out and asked, "Hayden, what are you doing here?"
Hayden Kaye quickly stood up. "Hello, Madam Ford."
Madam Ford pointed at the roses on the desk. "What’s with the flowers?"
Hayden Kaye scratched his head shyly. "Uh, they’re for someone."
"You have a girl you like?" Madam Ford asked with a smile.
Hayden Kaye nodded. "Mhm, she works at Ninth Uncle’s company, but Ninth Uncle doesn’t want me to be with her."
"Don’t listen to that rascal. If there’s a girl you like, go after her. Don’t listen to his nonsense. If everyone were like him, wouldn’t the human race go extinct?" After lavishing praise on Hayden Kaye, Madam Ford invited him to bring the girl to lunch at the restaurant with them.
Hayden Kaye was delighted.
And so...
Vivian Quincy ended up following their whole family to the restaurant, feeling an indescribable sense of misery.
Jasper Ford’s expression had been dark ever since he walked in the door.
Madam Ford didn’t notice, instead launching into praise for Hayden Kaye: "You’re the one with good taste, kid. I noticed this young lady the moment I came to the company today. She’s pretty, has a great personality, and is a perfect match for you."
"I think so too!" Hayden Kaye looked as if he had found a kindred spirit, moved to tears.
Jasper Ford took a sip of red wine, his expression displeased. "Mom, don’t play matchmaker for no reason."
"I think this girl is wonderful." After scolding Jasper Ford, Madam Ford smiled at Vivian Quincy and said, "Our Hayden, you know, he went to a prestigious university, his family is in business, so he’s well-off. Most importantly, he has a great personality. You’ll definitely be happy with him."
Jasper Ford, who was already displeased, felt his temples throb upon hearing his own mother’s words.
