A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 48: Stop Pestering My Son
Wanda Quincy had brought a gift and made a special trip to apologize to Jasper Ford. She was waiting in front of the elevator and was about to step in when the doors opened. She nearly collided with Madam Ford, who was walking out. She quickly said, "Ford, what are you doing here?"
Madam Ford lifted her chin proudly. Her aloof, arrogant gaze fell upon Wanda Quincy with utter contempt. She walked out of the elevator step by step, forcing Wanda Quincy to back away repeatedly, and said, "This is my son’s company. I can come whenever I please. But you, why are you here?"
Wanda Quincy regained her footing and gave a fawning smile. "I was worried Jasper might have skipped breakfast, so I brought him some."
"Are you implying that the Ford Family is so poor we can’t even afford breakfast?" Madam Ford’s voice was sharp.
Wanda Quincy’s face paled in fright, and she hastily explained, "Ford, that’s not what I meant."
"It looks that way to me." Madam Ford imperiously called for security and said to Wanda Quincy, "Instead of wasting your time buying food for Jasper, you’d be better off going back to your own company and figuring out how to make it grow, rather than just relying on a man to get ahead."
"Ford, I..."
"Address me as Chairman," Madam Ford cut Wanda Quincy off bluntly.
Wanda Quincy’s eyes reddened with grievance. On the verge of tears, she bit her lip, her eyes welling up. "Did I do something wrong to make you angry?"
"Not really. I just don’t want to see you pestering my son." Madam Ford’s voice paused for a moment before she continued, "There are some things I’d rather not say so harshly, but you should know your place. Leave."
The people around couldn’t help but cast strange glances their way. Wanda Quincy clenched her fists, forcing back the tears that filled her eyes, and said in a choked voice, "I’m leaving now."
"And don’t come back again," Madam Ford added rudely.
Wanda Quincy faltered for a moment, then ran off in tears.
Many people in the lobby saw the scene and quickly turned away, pretending they hadn’t seen anything and minding their own business.
「Madam Ford went upstairs.」
Beanie was still sitting in the office, his beautiful, big eyes constantly looking toward the door.
When Caden Chandler saw Madam Ford return, he hurried over to open the door. "Good day, Madam."
"Is your president still in a meeting?" Madam Ford asked.
Caden Chandler nodded. "Yes, he is."
"Let me ask you, does Wanda Quincy come to the company often?"
Caden Chandler: "She does come by often."
"No wonder," Madam Ford snorted disdainfully.
Beanie tilted his head, blinking his big, beautiful eyes innocently. "No wonder what? Did she bully Miss Ford?"
"Not at all. I haven’t lived this long for nothing; how could I let a junior like her bully me?" Madam Ford shook her head and continued, "That Wanda Quincy... I could tell she was trouble six years ago. For her to have the nerve to come to the company looking for Jasper after causing such a scandal, she’s utterly shameless."
"Right, shameless." Although Beanie didn’t know what was going on, he knew to just nod along.
Caden Chandler stared at the child in disbelief. ’Isn’t that your mother?’ he wanted to ask. ’Is it really okay to badmouth your own mother in front of strangers?’
Madam Ford seemed to enjoy Beanie’s agreement and ordered Caden Chandler, "Tell the company’s security that Wanda Quincy is not to be allowed into the company from now on."
Caden Chandler nodded. "I’ll go give the order shortly."
"It just makes me so mad. That Wanda Quincy is awful." The more Madam Ford thought about it, the angrier she got. For some reason, she just couldn’t stand the sight of Wanda Quincy.
Beanie helped soothe Madam Ford from behind her. "Right, she’s awful. Don’t let her come to the company anymore."
Caden Chandler was speechless. ’In all my years, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a kid who’d throw his own mother under the bus like this.’
’Siding with an outsider to criticize his own mother... this kid takes the cake!’
As he stood there, speechless, a harsh scolding came from outside the office. It was loud and severe enough for the entire floor to hear clearly.
Everyone in the president’s office looked toward the door. Madam Ford asked, "What’s going on with Jasper?"
Caden Chandler said, "Perhaps one of the assistants made a mistake. I’ll go check."
Jasper Ford had just come out of the conference room. He was furious because of a data entry error made by Vivian Quincy and was giving her a harsh reprimand.
Vivian Quincy kept her head down, apologizing. "I’m sorry, President. It’s all my fault. It won’t happen again."
"You still think there’s a next time?" Jasper Ford demanded.
Vivian Quincy shook her head. "There won’t be. Absolutely not."
"You can’t even handle one little thing. What use are you!" Jasper Ford scolded.
Vivian Quincy kept her head down and listened.
The people in the secretarial department all shrank back, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
After venting his anger, Jasper Ford said, "You have ten minutes. Revise the proposal and give it back to me." With that, he turned and walked into his office. When he saw Madam Ford and Beanie, his expression softened slightly. "What are you two doing here?"
Standing next to Madam Ford, Beanie’s fists were clenched tightly, and his eyes were red. ’This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone yell at Mommy like that! And in front of so many people!’
"What’s wrong with your eyes?" Jasper Ford was surprised to see tears in Beanie’s eyes and walked over to touch him.
Beanie angrily slapped Jasper Ford’s hand away. "Don’t touch me."
The sudden outburst left Jasper Ford bewildered. He had patted Beanie’s head when he left that morning, and the boy hadn’t been angry then. Jasper asked patiently, "Why are you angry?"
"I don’t want to talk to you." Beanie moved behind Madam Ford. "Miss Ford, I want to go home for lunch."
"Alright, we’ll go back at noon," Madam Ford nodded indulgently.
Beanie said, "I’m going back to my own home. I’ll have Mommy pick me up at noon."
"Huh?" Madam Ford asked, surprised. "Didn’t you agree to stay at Grandma’s house for a few more days? Besides, your mommy is on a business trip, so there’s no one to take care of you. Did Ford make you angry again?" After saying this, Madam Ford yelled at Jasper Ford, "Did you bully the child this morning while I was away?"
"No," Jasper Ford said, shaking his head.
Madam Ford insisted, "I’m sure you did. Apologize to him right now."
"I don’t need it," Beanie said, turning his face away angrily.
The man’s cold face seemed to freeze over, and the depths of his dark, profound eyes grew even colder. He didn’t like children, especially unreasonable ones who threw tantrums like Beanie. But for some reason, seeing the tears in the boy’s eyes made Jasper Ford’s heart ache.
His heart ached for him...
Jasper Ford didn’t get angry. Instead, he crouched down and gently placed his hands on Beanie’s shoulders. "Tell me why you’re crying."
"Don’t touch me!" Beanie shoved Jasper Ford away with all his might and fell hard onto the floor.
Vivian Quincy’s desk wasn’t far from Jasper Ford’s office. When she heard Beanie’s voice, she shot a look toward the office and saw him fall to the floor. Vivian Quincy dropped the thick stack of documents in her hands, threw open the door to the president’s office, and rushed inside!
