Chapter 47: Chapter 47: I’ll Go Meet Her Myself

Beanie ran so fast that Madam Ford, afraid he might fall, quickly said, "Be careful, don’t trip."

Beanie slowed his pace and flashed Madam Ford a sweet smile. "I’m alright, Miss Ford."

"Come over here and let me feel your head. Are you still feverish?" Madam Ford reached out to check the temperature of Beanie’s forehead. She smiled and said, "It looks like you’re in good health."

Beanie tilted up his innocent little face, smiling beautifully. "Ford was taking care of me all night."

"Mm, your Ford did a good job this time." Madam Ford praised Jasper Ford with a kind smile, then slowly pulled out a chair and lifted Beanie onto it. "Here, eat your breakfast first and get your strength back."

"Thank you, Miss Ford." Beanie obediently picked up his chopsticks and ate with great concentration.

Seeing that he was alright, Madam Ford felt the weight in her heart finally lift.

After breakfast, Jasper Ford left for the office.

After Jasper Ford left, Beanie tugged on Madam Ford’s sleeve. "Miss Ford, can we go out and play?"

"Of course. Where would you like to go, Beanie?" Madam Ford agreed without hesitation.

Beanie said, "I want to go to Ford’s office and see what he does."

"Come to think of it, I haven’t been to his company in a long time myself. How about this? I’ll take you to see your mommy first, and then we can go to the office on our way back. What do you think?" Madam Ford asked, testing the waters.

Beanie shook his head. "No, it’s okay. I just had a video call with Mommy. She’s away on a business trip and won’t be back for another two days."

"Another business trip..." Madam Ford frowned. ’How could this child’s mother be so thoughtless?’

Beanie lowered his little head miserably, his voice pitiful. "Yeah. Ever since Daddy died, Mommy has been working three jobs all by herself. She has no time to play with me."

"You poor thing." Madam Ford’s eyes welled with tears. She comforted Beanie in a gentle voice and, at the same time, asked the butler to get the car ready.

Learning that Madam Ford was coming to the company, the reception staff was already waiting outside, lined up in two neat rows. In unison, they said, "Good morning, Chairwoman."

The display was grand, their voices were in perfect unison—it was all very impressive!

Beanie was stunned. He stared at Madam Ford’s back with pure admiration. ’She has such a powerful presence!’

He followed cautiously behind Madam Ford as they entered the company building.

He might be young and small, but he was still a person—and one who had gotten out of the car with Madam Ford, no less. The welcoming party outside couldn’t help but sneak a few extra glances at Beanie. It wasn’t until Beanie and his companion entered the president’s exclusive elevator that they couldn’t resist gossiping.

"Who’s that little kid? Why is he following the Chairwoman?"

"I’ve never heard of the Ford Family having any children."

"Where did that kid come from? Don’t tell me he’s the President’s son?"

"Hey, don’t talk nonsense. The President isn’t even married, how could he have a kid? That child is definitely not his."

"But... why do I feel like they look alike?"

Amidst the whispers, someone couldn’t resist taking another look at Beanie’s retreating figure. Although he was very young and his features hadn’t fully matured, it wasn’t hard to see a slight resemblance to Jasper Ford in the boy’s brow. Was it just their imagination?

Though their suspicions were raised, it was ultimately their superior’s private affair, so the employees didn’t dare gossip openly. Thus, Beanie’s arrival only caused a minor ripple among the greeting party on the first floor; the other departments remained oblivious.

Jasper Ford was in a meeting, so his office was empty.

Caden Chandler came in with two cups of hot tea. "Madam Ford, are you here to see the President? He’s busy at the moment and probably won’t be out for a while."

Madam Ford waved her hand dismissively. "I just came to take a look. You don’t need to wait on me. Go on and attend to your own work."

"I’m free at the moment. It’s no trouble at all," Caden Chandler said.

"I just walked past the secretarial department and saw many young, beautiful girls. Do any of them fancy Jasper?" Madam Ford asked bluntly.

Caden Chandler stiffened, quickly realizing the purpose of Madam Ford’s visit. He shook his head. "No, Ma’am. The company has a strict policy against office romances. Everyone in the secretarial department is dedicated to their duties and has never overstepped any lines."

"All those girls, and not a single one has taken a liking to him? I should have just had a daughter!" Madam Ford was about to lose her mind over her disappointing son.

Caden Chandler wiped the cold sweat from his brow. ’Madam Ford has a fundamental misunderstanding of our president. It’s not that none of these women are interested in him, it’s that he isn’t interested in any of them!’

’Our president’s standards are ridiculously high!’

But Caden Chandler didn’t dare say that aloud. After pouring hot tea for them, he couldn’t help sneaking a few more glances at Beanie, who looked vaguely familiar. He had to ask, "Madam Ford, and this child is...?"

"His name is Beanie," Madam Ford explained with a smile.

Beanie tilted up his innocent little face and greeted Caden Chandler.

Caden Chandler’s brain froze for a half-second. His mind quickly processed the name "Beanie." It felt familiar, as if he’d heard it somewhere before.

After a few more glances at Beanie, Caden Chandler suddenly realized who the boy resembled!

’Isn’t this the illegitimate child who caused a scene at the President’s engagement party! And isn’t he Wanda Quincy’s son? How did he end up with Madam Ford?’

’Caden Chandler was floored. The Ford Family was the most prestigious family in Crestfall, and their president was a business magnate so powerful he practically owned the city. What kind of woman couldn’t he have? Even if Madam Ford was desperate for a grandchild, she wouldn’t go so far as to bring home Wanda Quincy’s illegitimate son, would she? Though, the kid was admittedly pretty cute!’

The expressions flickering across Caden Chandler’s face were complex, to say the least—it was a look even more pained than if he had just swallowed a fly.

Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from the front desk. Caden Chandler frowned and said, "Madam Ford, Wanda Quincy is here. Should I have her come up?"

The smile vanished from Madam Ford’s face in an instant. Her expression turning cold, she demanded, "What is she doing here!"

The entire atmosphere around her shifted.

Caden Chandler was taken aback. ’Hasn’t Madam Ford already accepted Wanda Quincy’s son? Why is she so angry at the mention of her name?’ He cast a puzzled, questioning glance toward Beanie.

Beanie recognized Caden Chandler too, remembering him from the engagement ceremony. He pouted and said, "Miss Ford, Wanda Quincy must be here to see Ford. He’s so old and still can’t find a wife, so why don’t you just let her in?"

"Hah! The Ford Family has not fallen so low as to need a daughter-in-law like her!" Madam Ford stood up imperiously. "I’ll go deal with this woman myself," she said to Caden Chandler.

"Miss Ford, please don’t argue with Wanda Quincy. She’s young, she might be a fierce arguer and probably won’t go easy on you," Beanie said, tugging worriedly at Madam Ford’s sleeve.

The more Beanie tried to "dissuade" her, the angrier Madam Ford became. ’She wasn’t so old that she’d let herself be bullied by Wanda Quincy!’

"Caden Chandler, you stay here and watch Beanie. I’m going downstairs myself." Madam Ford stalked out of the president’s office, radiating a murderous aura.

Caden Chandler broke out in a cold sweat. ’When Madam Ford gets angry, she’s terrifying—just as terrifying as the President! But why do I feel like something is off?’

Caden Chandler’s gaze landed on Beanie. ’Was that little rascal fanning the flames just now?’
