Chapter 41: Chapter 41: I Gave Her the Necklace

Everyone present turned pale with fright at Vivian Quincy’s words, staring wide-eyed at this audacious woman. Did she have any idea what she had just said?

How could a man of Jasper Ford’s caliber possibly do something like that!

Everyone thought Vivian Quincy had lost her mind. Wanda Quincy was even more furious, snapping harshly at Vivian, "You’re talking nonsense! What kind of person is Jasper? He’s worth hundreds of billions; what could he possibly want that he doesn’t already have? A single ring is nothing to him, so how could he possibly steal it?"

"But the President did say just now that the ring wasn’t in my bag. Since it wasn’t, then it must have fallen from his hand," Vivian Quincy retorted, defiantly lifting her chin.

’Without a doubt, this is a trap set by Wanda Quincy. Jasper Ford is Wanda’s fiancé, and even though I didn’t steal anything, Wanda must have a slew of arguments prepared. My only hope for survival right now is to drag Jasper Ford down with me. Otherwise, I’ll definitely be branded a thief.’

’Since I didn’t do it, why should I suffer this humiliation?’

’So, all the blame falls on Jasper Ford. It’s his fault for not keeping his fiancée in line and letting her cause trouble!’

The crowd wore varied expressions. Mrs. Hudson, the one who had lost her ring, looked displeased. She knew Jasper Ford would absolutely never do such a thing.

Mrs. Hudson said, "Since the ring has been found, let’s just drop it."

The maid, seeing that Mrs. Hudson didn’t intend to pursue the matter, grew anxious. "How can we just drop it? I clearly saw her steal it! We have both a witness and physical evidence now. She must have done it."

Wanda Quincy softly chided the maid, "That’s enough. Stop talking. That’s President Ford’s assistant. She definitely wouldn’t do something like that."

"But she’s just a lowly assistant, yet she’s wearing a necklace worth hundreds of thousands. No matter how you look at it, the source of that money can’t be clean. If not her, who could it be?" The maid’s eyes reddened with grievance, her voice just loud enough for everyone to hear clearly.

Both Jasper Ford and Vivian Quincy were suspects, but one was the famous head of Imperium Group, and the other was a brand-new junior assistant!

The invited guests also felt the maid’s words were very reasonable. One said to Jasper Ford, "President Ford, your assistant surely didn’t mean to do it. Just have her apologize to Mrs. Hudson, and we can let this matter go."

"That’s right. Even though Mrs. Hudson is magnanimous and won’t pursue it, for something like this to happen to a guest here... she must apologize."

"Who knows, maybe the necklace she’s wearing was stolen too. A man as discerning as President Ford wouldn’t shelter a thief, would he?"

The crowd’s murmurs grew louder and louder, the spearhead of their accusations pointing directly at Vivian Quincy.

The man’s handsome features twisted, his thin, cool lips slowly curling into a bloodthirsty sneer. The depths of his dark, profound eyes were exceptionally cold. "So, by your logic, anyone who can afford a necklace worth hundreds of thousands is a thief?"

"We’re just suspicious. Where would an assistant get the money to buy something so expensive?" Ariel Rowan glanced at Vivian Quincy with disdain.

Jasper Ford’s voice grew even colder. "I gave her the necklace."

His words left everyone present stunned!

’Jasper Ford gave Vivian Quincy a necklace worth hundreds of thousands? Good heavens, are our ears deceiving us? How is that possible?’

Wanda Quincy’s face turned pale in an instant. She said in disbelief, "Jasper, even though Vivian Quincy is your assistant, you don’t have to make excuses for her. How could you possibly give her such an expensive necklace? Mrs. Hudson already said she won’t pursue it. As long as Vivian Quincy comes forward and apologizes, no one will make things difficult for her."

Under the hostile gazes of everyone present, Vivian Quincy looked toward Jasper Ford with clear eyes, not saying a word.

The maid, not expecting Vivian Quincy to be so stubborn, urged, "Assistant Quincy, just admit it. Mrs. Hudson has already agreed not to press charges, so don’t be so obstinate."

"Exactly. What’s the use of looking at Jasper Ford? You don’t think he’d actually lie in public for a thief like you, do you?" Ariel Rowan chimed in mockingly.

Jasper Ford’s handsome face grew colder and colder. His aggressive gaze carried an intense pressure, and the icy aura that erupted from him in an instant silenced the surrounding crowd. Everyone was intimidated, not understanding why Jasper Ford had suddenly gotten angry for no apparent reason.

’We’re just talking about a lowly assistant. Are we wrong?’

Jasper Ford’s sharp gaze fell upon the maid. His thin lips parted slightly. "You said the ring was in the bag?"

The maid was frightened by his ice-cold voice. Trembling, she glanced at Wanda Quincy.

Wanda Quincy snapped unhappily, "Why are you looking at me? Just tell him what you saw."

The maid mustered her courage. "Yes. I saw Vivian Quincy put the ring in the bag with my own two eyes."

Jasper Ford said, "I checked. It wasn’t in the bag. Vivian Quincy didn’t steal anything..." After a pause, Jasper Ford continued, "Let’s just say I stole it."

"How is that possible? You weren’t even in the side courtyard just now. How could you have taken it? It must have been Vivian Quincy." Wanda Quincy hadn’t expected Jasper Ford to take the blame just to protect Vivian Quincy. She was nearly driven mad with jealousy. She stepped forward, glaring at Vivian. "You thief! Apologize at once!"

Vivian Quincy gave a light laugh, showing no intention of apologizing. "The President himself said he stole it. Why are you so intent on forcing me, the victim, to apologize? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you have it in for me and hired someone to frame me."

Her nerve struck, Wanda Quincy’s face flushed with guilt, her voice panicked. "Nonsense! Why would I frame you for no reason?"

"Then shut up," Vivian Quincy replied nonchalantly.

Wanda Quincy froze. ’This bitch actually dared to tell me to shut up! Is she trying to start a rebellion?!’

Humiliated and enraged, Wanda Quincy’s face twisted with anger. No matter how well-maintained her composure was, it finally shattered in this moment!

Jasper Ford glanced at Caden Chandler.

Caden Chandler walked up quickly and said to Mrs. Hudson, "My apologies, Mrs. Hudson. As a gesture of our regret, Imperium Group can concede one percent of the profits on the project in The Central District as an apology gift to Hudson Enterprises."

Mrs. Hudson quickly shook her head and said to Jasper Ford, "It’s just a ring, President Ford. Please don’t worry about it. It was my own fault for being careless. Let’s just drop the matter. I have something else to attend to, so if you’ll excuse me."

’After all, I’m from a prominent family in Crestfall. I know that in this city, I can afford to offend anyone but Jasper Ford. If I take his money, it would be tantamount to admitting that he stole my ring. But how could a man like him, who stands so high above everyone else like an emperor, possibly have any interest in my belongings?’

Mrs. Hudson wasn’t that foolish. After apologizing, she turned and left.

As for the others, none of them had expected Jasper Ford to defend Vivian Quincy in front of so many people. If they continued to insist on Vivian Quincy’s guilt at this point, it would look really bad for them.

’Offending the President of Imperium Group over a mere assistant isn’t worth it!’

The others also quickly found excuses to leave. Soon, the only people left in the courtyard were the members of the Quincy Family, along with Jasper Ford and his people.

The smile on Wanda Quincy’s face finally crumbled. She clenched her fists, wishing she could strangle Vivian Quincy to death.
