Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Jasper Ford Is the Real Thief

All eyes were fixed on the necklace around Vivian Quincy’s neck. It was obvious the piece was worth a fortune.

Their suspicious gazes were scorching hot.

Wanda Quincy took the initiative to defend Vivian Quincy. "Everyone, you can’t judge a person by their job. Several hundred thousand isn’t actually that expensive."

The maid stammered, "Miss, several hundred thousand really isn’t expensive for someone like you, but for us working-class people, it’s an astronomical price. We’d have to save up for years without eating or drinking to afford such an expensive necklace."

The implication was clear: Vivian Quincy was young and didn’t have much in savings, so the necklace must have been acquired through unsavory means. The others also kept demanding to search her bag.

Vivian Quincy saw this was a trap set by Wanda Quincy, but she was absolutely certain there was no ring in her bag. There was no possibility someone could have secretly planted it, because she had been wearing her bag the entire time. Plus, it had two zippers and a combination lock; no one could open it but her.

’This Wanda Quincy is a little too eager, isn’t she?’

Vivian Quincy scoffed inwardly, her delicate face stunningly beautiful. "You keep insisting I took the ring, so why didn’t you stop me then?"

"I thought it was yours," the maid explained.

Vivian Quincy said, "I haven’t left my seat at all, let alone gone near Mrs. Hudson. Is someone putting you up to making these false accusations against me?"

Her words made the maid’s expression change drastically. She grew flustered, becoming desperate. "Quincy, please don’t change the subject! I saw it with my own eyes! You’re the one who stole it!"

"You’re slandering me with a single sentence and no proof. If there’s no ring in my bag, how will you explain yourself?" Vivian Quincy demanded.

The maid insisted, "Impossible! It has to be there!"

"If there’s no ring in my bag, that proves you’re slandering me. How will you explain yourself then? Or, if the item isn’t in my bag, does that prove you’re the one who stole it?" Vivian Quincy pressed aggressively.

Wanda Quincy stepped forward, blocking the maid, and said to Vivian Quincy with a smile, "She was just honestly stating what she saw. She meant no harm. Quincy, please don’t be angry. The maids in my house are all professionally trained and have a high degree of professional integrity. They would never do something as sneaky as stealing. So, I believe she couldn’t have stolen anything, and I believe what she just said."

After a pause, Wanda Quincy said, "Quincy, if you don’t want to be misunderstood, you should let us all see your bag. If there’s truly nothing in it, I’ll apologize to you. If there is, I’m sure Mrs. Hudson is a magnanimous person. I’ll plead with her on your behalf. I don’t think she’ll hold it against you."

"President Quincy is so reasonable and well-mannered. You, little assistant, hurry up and take out your bag for everyone to see," Ariel Rowan praised Wanda Quincy before barking harshly at Vivian Quincy.

The others all sided with the maid. After all, there was an eyewitness. They couldn’t believe the maid would slander Vivian Quincy for no reason. It must be that her hands were dirty.

Vivian Quincy sneered internally. ’These people are so good at pretending to be righteous, especially Wanda Quincy.’

She said, "Fine. I’ll let you search my bag."

"Since Quincy is willing, someone come over..." Wanda Quincy called out. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Vivian Quincy cut her off. "Wait. I never said I’d let your people do it."

Wanda Quincy’s expression stiffened, clearly displeased. "If not my people, are you going to search it yourself? What if you hide it?"

"That’s right! It’s your bag. Who knows if you’ll search it properly," a bystander chimed in.

Vivian Quincy didn’t trust Wanda Quincy’s people. Anyone here could plant something in her bag while searching it, so she had to find someone trustworthy. And that person was...

The young woman’s bright gaze landed on Jasper Ford. When it came to who held the most authority here and would be most contemptuous of such dirty tricks, it could be none other than Jasper Ford.

Vivian Quincy held out her bag. "President, could you help me by searching this?"

Jasper Ford raised a handsome brow, a hint of coldness playing on his lips. "Why me?"

"Because I don’t trust anyone else," Vivian Quincy said bluntly.

Everyone who knew Jasper Ford knew he never touched women’s belongings.

Caden Chandler thought Vivian Quincy must be crazy. He immediately stepped forward and said, "Let me do it. The President’s status is too distinguished for him to be doing something like this."

"No, I want him," Vivian Quincy said, her tone unyielding. "Besides him, no one is qualified to search my bag. Not even you."

"Vivian Quincy, don’t push your luck! Who do you think you are, ordering my man around?!" Wanda Quincy could no longer hold back. She felt Vivian Quincy was seducing Jasper Ford right in front of her. She rushed forward, about to snatch the bag from Vivian Quincy’s hands, but was stopped by a fair, strong hand.

In front of everyone, Jasper Ford actually took the bag from Vivian Quincy!

’He actually touched that bitch Vivian Quincy’s bag!’

Wanda Quincy was so furious she nearly erupted on the spot, her eyes bloodshot with jealousy.

Jasper Ford’s cold face showed no hint of emotion. His long, slender fingers slowly toyed with the combination lock. "What’s the code?"

"797," Vivian Quincy answered.

Jasper Ford’s pupils contracted. A flicker of shock flashed through his eyes as he looked at the young woman, but he quickly concealed it. After entering the code, the bag opened. In front of everyone, Jasper Ford took out the contents one by one.

The crowd craned their necks to see, reminding him, "There’s an inner pocket, and a hidden compartment..."

Jasper Ford’s search was meticulous. He even pulled out a hairpin that was stuck in a seam. The bag contained all sorts of things, but no ring.

The maid who had accused Vivian Quincy said, "It has to be there! Keep looking! I saw her put the ring in her bag with my own eyes."

Jasper Ford said coldly, "There’s nothing else."

"Impossible!" the maid shrieked.

Jasper Ford impatiently handed the bag back to Vivian Quincy. At that exact moment, a clear clinking sound reached everyone’s ears. A shiny ring fell to the ground, rolled a few times, and stopped at Mrs. Hudson’s feet.

"Isn’t this my ring?" Mrs. Hudson bent down to pick it up, her eyes filled with astonishment.

The maid said, "It fell out of her bag! I was right!"

Wanda Quincy seized the opportunity to add insult to injury. "Jasper, I can’t believe your assistant is this kind of person. That ring is Mrs. Hudson’s cherished token of love! No matter what, she shouldn’t have taken Mrs. Hudson’s things. I’m so disappointed in her."

"I was wondering how a mere assistant could afford a necklace worth hundreds of thousands. Turns out she’s a thief," Ariel Rowan sneered.

All the guests in the courtyard began to condemn Vivian Quincy, their mouths filled with ugly words.

Vivian Quincy listened to their curses, then retorted, "The President just checked my bag and stated clearly there was no ring inside. Are you all questioning him, suggesting he lied?"

Wanda Quincy said, "The ring definitely fell from the bag. Are you still not going to admit it?"

Vivian Quincy said, "Your maid said the ring was inside my bag. But President Ford said there was no ring inside. Therefore, the ring fell from President Ford’s hand, not from my bag. By your logic, that makes Jasper Ford the thief."
