A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 39: I Saw Her Steal It
Wanda Quincy glared daggers at Vivian Quincy, her hands at her sides clenched so tightly it seemed they might draw blood. Forcing back her rage, she managed a strained smile and spoke in a deliberately gentle tone, "What are you doing down here?"
"I’m hungry." Vivian Quincy walked right past Wanda Quincy and, smiling at her, said, "Caden Chandler told me you all were having dinner. May I join?"
"You..." Wanda Quincy couldn’t believe Vivian Quincy had the gall to be so shameless! ’This is my family banquet! The one I spent all day preparing just to impress Jasper Ford! Where does this bitch Vivian Quincy get the nerve to make such a request?!’
’Doesn’t Vivian Quincy know this is my, Wanda Quincy’s, territory?!’
Noticing that both Jasper Ford and Caden Chandler had turned to look at them, Wanda Quincy smiled at Vivian Quincy and said, "As Jasper’s assistant, of course you can stay for dinner. However, Jasper doesn’t like to dine with women at his table. Someone, show Assistant Quincy to the side hall."
"Yes, miss." A maid came forward to lead the way for Vivian Quincy. "Assistant Quincy, please follow me."
Vivian Quincy seemed lost in thought, but she said nothing and followed the maid.
The maid didn’t know Vivian Quincy well. Seeing her somber expression, she couldn’t help but ask, "Are you upset, Assistant Quincy? That’s the main house. Usually, only the hosts can dine there. Besides, Mr. Ford is a very distinguished man, and our young miss didn’t mean to exclude you."
Vivian Quincy just smiled. She didn’t actually care whether she ate in the main house or not; she simply didn’t want to see Wanda Quincy.
After a short walk with the maid, she arrived at a side courtyard.
The courtyard had a swimming pool, a long open-air table, and a bar. It had clearly been meticulously decorated, with the small space transformed into a beautiful outdoor venue, fully equipped with everything needed for a banquet.
There were many guests in the courtyard. Some were engaged in animated conversation, others sat in corners drinking silently, and some were reveling in the pool, having a grand time.
The maid led Vivian Quincy to the food area and stopped. "Assistant Quincy, please feel free to help yourself to any of the food, fruit, and drinks here."
"Okay, thank you." Vivian Quincy thanked her, went to the food area, and grabbed a glass of juice and some pastries before finding an empty corner to sit down.
Three people noticed Vivian Quincy and began discussing her from a distance. "Isn’t that President Ford’s assistant? She’s quite beautiful."
A middle-aged man chuckled. "An assistant like that isn’t just responsible for work. How could she not be beautiful?"
Ariel Rowan asked, "President Lewis, what are you implying?"
The middle-aged man replied, "Well, it’s normal for a man to have a few women around."
Ariel Rowan frowned. "Don’t talk nonsense. If Wanda Quincy hears you, she’ll probably get angry again."
President Lewis was completely unfazed. "I’m not talking nonsense. Haven’t you noticed? The gemstone necklace that assistant is wearing is worth several hundred thousand. Even for a president’s assistant, buying such an expensive necklace would be a bit of a stretch, wouldn’t it?"
His words piqued the curiosity of others at the table, who couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at the necklace on Vivian Quincy’s neck. One woman in a white dress said, "He’s right. I saw that gemstone at the mall the other day. It was a little over three hundred thousand. This assistant is something else, casually wearing jewelry worth hundreds of thousands."
Ariel Rowan’s expression darkened. "Should we tell Wanda Quincy?"
The woman in white replied, "Why tell her? Didn’t you see how arrogant and smug Wanda Quincy was just now? Isn’t it better to just sit back and watch the show?"
The three of them whispered among themselves, completely oblivious to Wanda Quincy, who had already walked up behind them.
"Miss..." The maid standing behind Wanda Quincy clearly felt a powerful surge of killing intent from her and called out in a low voice.
Wanda Quincy snapped back to reality, turned around, and lowered her voice. "Go do something for me..."
She leaned close to the maid’s ear and, after finishing, warned, "Don’t let anyone find out, understand?"
"Yes, I’ll be sure to do it right." The maid hurried away.
Wanda Quincy clenched her fists, her eyes venomous. ’I don’t know how Vivian Quincy managed to stay by Jasper Ford’s side, but I have to get rid of this woman. At the very least, I can’t let her stay near him anymore.’
A little after eight, Jasper Ford was about to leave. Wanda Quincy invited him to the side courtyard to say goodbye to everyone when suddenly, an anxious cry came from the crowd, "Something of mine is missing."
Wanda Quincy looked suspiciously at the woman who had spoken. "Mrs. Hudson, what happened?"
Mrs. Hudson said, "My ring is missing."
"Your ring? How could something that big just disappear? Did you drop it somewhere?" Wanda Quincy asked, feigning surprise.
"It was just on the table a moment ago," Mrs. Hudson said as she searched.
Wanda Quincy said, "I heard Mr. Hudson spent a hundred million at an auction for that diamond ring to propose to you, Mrs. Hudson. This ring must mean a great deal to you. Someone, come and help look for it! See if it was dropped somewhere."
Wanda Quincy called over the estate’s maids to help with the search. Other guests also stood up to help, but just then, a maid suddenly stepped forward and asked, "Mrs. Hudson, is your ring sky blue, diamond-shaped, and about this big...?"
Seeing the maid’s gesture, Mrs. Hudson nodded repeatedly. "Yes, that’s the one! Have you seen it?"
The maid bit her lip, looking troubled. "I have seen it, it’s just that..."
"Stop dawdling. Just say what you saw," Wanda Quincy snapped. "Can’t you see Mrs. Hudson is worried?"
The maid pointed at Vivian Quincy across the way. "I saw that young lady put the ring in her bag just now."
In an instant, all eyes were fixed on Vivian Quincy.
Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but laugh. "When have I ever done such a thing? Don’t frame me."
"I definitely saw you walk over to Mrs. Hudson’s side and take a ring from the table. I thought it was yours, I didn’t realize it belonged to Mrs. Hudson." After speaking, the maid turned to Mrs. Hudson. "If you don’t believe me, Mrs. Hudson, you can search her bag yourself."
Mrs. Hudson’s face darkened. She turned to Wanda Quincy and asked, "Miss Quincy, this is your party. I believe you owe me a reasonable explanation."
Wanda Quincy, feigning a dilemma, cast a questioning glance at Jasper Ford. "Jasper, she’s your assistant. What do you think we should do?"
Jasper Ford’s deep-set eyes were piercingly sharp.
Vivian Quincy explained, "I never touched Mrs. Hudson’s ring, nor did I even go near her. If you don’t believe me, you can check the security footage."
"Right, check the footage," Wanda Quincy said, calling for the butler.
The butler apologized profusely. "I’m so sorry, Miss. The security system broke a few days ago, and we haven’t had a chance to repair it yet."
Wanda Quincy frowned. "It’s broken? Then what should we do? It wouldn’t be right to search someone’s bag without any evidence."
Just then, Wanda Quincy’s friend, Ariel Rowan, spoke up. "If you ask me, she’s the one who stole it."
Wanda Quincy chided, "Don’t be ridiculous."
Ariel Rowan replied, "I’m not being ridiculous. A mere assistant wearing a necklace worth hundreds of thousands—where did that money come from? Mrs. Hudson’s ring is so expensive, any poor person would be tempted by it. Plus, there’s a witness. Is Assistant Quincy refusing a bag search because she has a guilty conscience?"
Her words were sharp and acrimonious, thick with animosity!
