Chapter 38: Chapter 38: He Would Never Fall for You

Jasper Ford frowned. He had been about to follow Wanda Quincy inside but turned back. "Caden, get the car."

Stunned by this, Wanda Quincy quickly ran over. "Jasper, you haven’t even eaten. How can you leave so soon?"

Jasper Ford said, "My assistant isn’t feeling well. I’m taking her to the hospital first."

’His assistant?’

Wanda Quincy glared furiously at Vivian Quincy. ’She’s perfectly fine! She doesn’t look unwell in the slightest!’

Wanda was sure Vivian was doing this on purpose, but she still had to feign composure. Suppressing her rage, she walked over to Vivian’s side with a smile and said, "If you’re not feeling well, you can rest in one of the guest rooms upstairs. Jasper just arrived. You can’t possibly expect him to rush to the hospital and back for you before he’s even had a single bite to eat, can you? People who don’t know any better might think *you’re* the boss."

As she spoke, Wanda secretly dug her nails into Vivian’s hand and threatened her in a voice only the two of them could hear, "If you dare to leave now, don’t blame me for what happens next!"

Vivian frowned, but before she could speak, Wanda cut in, "Jasper, she’s agreed to rest upstairs. You just got here, so stay for dinner before you go."

With that, Wanda had the household’s butler show Jasper the way, while she herself used the excuse of taking Vivian to rest to drag her away.

Wanda walked quickly, rushing upstairs with hurried steps. She radiated such a fierce aura that the household servants all scattered to avoid her, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.

Once inside the room, she slammed the door shut with a BANG.

"What are you doing in my house? Vivian Quincy, do you have a death wish?!" Wanda roared, her delicate face nearly twisted with rage.

Vivian pulled back her hand, which was aching from Wanda’s grip, and said, "Jasper Ford told me to come. You think I *want* to be here?"

"Jasper Ford told you to come? Who the hell do you think you are? How could Jasper possibly be interested in you? You bitch, you must have seduced him and made him bring you here. You’re just doing this on purpose to embarrass me!" Wanda didn’t believe a word of Vivian’s bullshit.

Vivian sneered, "If you don’t believe me, then I have nothing more to say." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

She threw up her hands and turned to leave. Wanda quickly grabbed her hand, preventing her from leaving.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

Vivian said, "Since you don’t want me in your house, I’ll just go home, then. It’s not like I want to be here anyway."

"Jasper just sat down and you’re already faking an illness for him. He’s so good to his staff; if you leave now, he’ll definitely think you’re unwell. So you can’t leave." Wanda blocked the doorway and called two people to guard it, preventing Vivian from getting out.

Vivian stared coldly at the people by the door. "What, are you going to lock me in here?"

"Just stay put and behave." Wanda then instructed the servants, "Keep a close eye on Vivian Quincy. Don’t let her take a single step out of this room until Jasper Ford has left."

"Understood," the servants nodded.

Wanda locked the door and hurried downstairs.

Jasper Ford had no intention of staying long at the Quincy residence. He was just going through the motions to spare Wanda from embarrassment.

Fiona Hughes had prepared a table laden with dishes, but Jasper hadn’t touched a thing. It wasn’t until Wanda came down that he said, "I have other matters to attend to. I’m leaving."

Wanda was taken aback, but she walked up with a smile and sat next to him. "You haven’t eaten. Please eat before you go."

"Busy," Jasper replied with a single, cool word.

Wanda lowered her head in disappointment, on the verge of tears. "Do you hate me that much? I waited for you all day, and you’re leaving after sitting down for just a minute. If people outside saw this, I don’t know what they’d say about me."

As she spoke, she placed food on Jasper’s plate. To please him, she had spent the whole day looking up his favorite dishes and preparing them, but he wouldn’t even glance at them... Wanda kept her head down. A tear fell, but she remained silent and continued to place food on his plate, looking utterly pitiful.

Jasper’s expression was complex. After a few seconds of silence, he slowly picked up his chopsticks. He didn’t eat much, just taking a few perfunctory bites.

"This is delicious too, have some more." Wanda quickly wiped away her tears and said in a fawning tone, "Would you like some wine? I have your favorite red wine, an ’88 vintage specially imported from abroad. I’ll go get it for you now."

With that, Wanda ran to get the red wine, also inviting Caden Chandler to eat with them.

Caden Chandler didn’t dare!

Jasper glanced at the time and said, "Go ahead and eat. You won’t be heading back for a while."

"Thank you, President." Caden sat down. In truth, he was hungry too.

Because Wanda adored Jasper, her fondness extended to Caden. She immediately had a place set for him and asked a servant to bring another chair.

Caden thanked her profusely. After sitting down, he suddenly remembered Vivian upstairs and said, "Shouldn’t we call Vivian down, too? She hasn’t eaten today either."

Wanda’s expression stiffened, but she forced a smile and said, "There’s no need. I’ll have a servant send some food up to her later. You don’t need to worry."

Jasper recalled that Vivian had just been released from the hospital. Though he wasn’t particularly fond of her, he worried something might happen. He said to Caden, "Go upstairs and check on her."

"That won’t be necessary. Vivian is fine, there’s no need to check on her." Wanda sensed that Jasper was overly concerned about Vivian, which displeased her greatly, and she tried to stop Caden.

Caden glanced at Jasper. His boss’s expression was dark and cold. Caden gave Wanda a slight nod. "Pardon me, Miss Quincy. I’m just going to check on Vivian upstairs. I’ll be right down."

Caden got up and left.

The hand at Wanda’s side clenched into a fist. She was practically exploding with anger, but she held it back. Biting her lip, she forced down her rage and said with feigned casualness, "Jasper, is that new assistant really that special? You seem quite concerned about her."

Jasper cast a cool glance at Wanda. "What’s your point?"

"I’m just curious. I’ve never seen you with a female assistant before. What’s so special about this Vivian Quincy that’s earned your high regard? Is it because she’s very capable?" Wanda then added, "Don’t be angry, I don’t mean anything by it. I just want to understand you a little better. If you don’t like it, I’ll stop talking."

She suddenly remembered she’d posted two people to watch Vivian—’they must still be guarding the door!’ Worried Caden would discover something was amiss, Wanda hurriedly put down her chopsticks. "Uh, I’ll just go upstairs and take a look."

She was about to run upstairs when she nearly collided with Caden, who was coming down. Wanda quickly said, "How is our young assistant? I was so worried she wasn’t feeling well that I had two people posted outside her door to help. I hope they’ve been taking good care of her."

Caden said, "She’s fine."

"That’s good." Relieved that Caden hadn’t seemed to notice anything amiss, Wanda smiled and said, "Hurry up and eat. The food is getting cold."

"Okay." The reply came in a crisp, female voice. Wanda froze. Looking up, she discovered that Vivian Quincy was already downstairs!

’When did that bitch get down here?’

’Hadn’t I warned her not to come down?!’
