A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 35: I Must Leave Today
Hayden Kaye was right outside the company. He hadn’t been there long before Vivian Quincy wanted to leave. Jasper Ford didn’t think she actually had errands to run; he was sure she wanted to go out and see her little boyfriend.
Jasper Ford denied her request, so Vivian Quincy didn’t dare make a move. But she was visibly angry. She sat motionless at her desk, staring daggers in the direction of Jasper’s office, her eyes practically shooting fire.
’Doesn’t she know he can see her from inside his office?’
The phone in Jasper Ford’s office could connect directly to Vivian Quincy’s desk. He casually dialed her extension and asked, "Are you displeased with me?"
"Mr. Ford, I’m requesting half a day off," Vivian Quincy said, her voice sulky.
Even through the glass partition, Jasper Ford could see Vivian Quincy’s resentful face, and he was suddenly intrigued. "You really want to go?"
Hearing a glimmer of hope, the girl’s face instantly lit up in a smile. She asked tentatively, "I can?"
"You can," the man said in a low voice. Outside, Vivian Quincy was so happy she nearly leaped out of her chair. Hiding a smile, Jasper Ford continued, "I’ll approve it next month."
"Next... month?"
The elated Vivian Quincy crashed into her desk, wincing in pain. She clutched her stomach, her eyes welling up. "Can’t it be today?"
"This day, next month," the man replied, his tone condescending and as unchallengeable as an imperial decree.
Vivian Quincy buried her face in the thick stack of files on her desk and muttered, "I’d love to grind your face into the table!"
Her voice was quiet, laced with deep resentment and frustration, little more than a disgruntled hum.
Jasper Ford heard her. Chuckling, he knocked on his desk. "Come in. I’ll let you take a shot. The question is, do you dare?"
Vivian Quincy heaved a long, helpless sigh.
’When it came to someone like Jasper Ford, she was completely powerless. Even if he stood right in front of her, stock-still, she wouldn’t dare lay a finger on him.’
’Life is so exhausting.’
’Men are all pigs. Absolute scoundrels.’
Vivian Quincy mumbled under her breath as she lay slumped over her desk. Jasper Ford couldn’t make out the rest of her words, but he could tell she was cursing him.
’She’s got some nerve.’
A handsome smile played on Jasper Ford’s thin, sensual lips. He leaned back languidly in his chair, studying Vivian Quincy’s reflection in the glass. "Stand up."
"Why?" ’I don’t want to move.’
"The necklace?" the man pressed.
Vivian Quincy instinctively touched her bare collarbone and explained, "That pendant is too expensive. I couldn’t bring myself to wear it."
"One month’s pay, docked," the man said coldly.
The color drained from Vivian Quincy’s face. She quickly explained, "I brought it! I’ll put it on right now."
"Hurry up," the man replied with two ice-cold words.
Vivian Quincy was extremely reluctant!
The gemstone pendant was a brilliant red. While the color complemented her skin, it was far too eye-catching. It was impossible to wear it without attracting attention.
On her meager salary, Vivian Quincy could never afford such a precious accessory. But under Jasper Ford’s command, she had no choice but to obediently put it on. Then... she hunched over her desk, trying her best to hide it from view.
She looked just like a child who had done something wrong.
To his surprise, Jasper Ford found Vivian Quincy somewhat cute. ’Am I going crazy?’ he wondered.
Suddenly, his cell phone rang. Jasper Ford glanced at the caller ID and frowned. He hung up the internal line before answering the call.
"Jasper, are you free tonight?" Wanda Quincy asked tentatively.
Jasper Ford frowned. "What is it?"
"It’s the weekend. I invited some friends over to my place, and you promised you’d come. Have you forgotten?" Wanda Quincy said shyly. "I invited my best friends and some business partners. If you don’t show up, they’ll make fun of me. I’m your woman now, after all. You wouldn’t be that cruel to me, would you?"
"We’ll see." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Sounding highly impatient, Jasper Ford hung up the phone, walked out of his office, and ordered Vivian Quincy, "Organize the files for the meeting and bring them to me in five minutes."
Vivian Quincy had no idea how she had provoked Jasper Ford, but she felt like he was taking his anger out on her. Not daring to question him, she simply gave a meek "oh" and followed after him.
They were in meetings all afternoon; Vivian Quincy didn’t get a moment’s rest.
During that time, Anna had called her several times, but Vivian had been too busy to answer. As soon as she was free, she called Anna back. "How did it go? Were you able to pick up Beanie?"
Anna said, "Beanie wasn’t there when I arrived. They said the child was sick and went to the hospital. I went to the hospital to look, but I couldn’t find anyone."
"You couldn’t find them? Do you think something happened to Beanie?" Vivian Quincy asked frantically.
Anna shook her head. "I don’t think so. I heard an adult is there taking care of the child."
Vivian Quincy wasn’t reassured. Even if someone was with Beanie, it was just a stranger with no blood ties. No one could care for a child as attentively as their own mother.
’Beanie is so little. With a severe cold, the child definitely can’t take care of themself.’
After hanging up, Vivian Quincy turned, went into the office, and packed her belongings.
Jasper Ford, emerging from the conference room, saw her. He raised an eyebrow and glanced at his watch. It wasn’t quitting time yet. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"I’m taking an hour off. I have an emergency." Vivian Quincy handed a thick stack of files to Jasper Ford. "These are the documents for your next meeting. I’ve already prepared them."
"Did I say you could leave?" Jasper Ford’s eyes narrowed dangerously, his entire being radiating intense displeasure.
Vivian Quincy didn’t want to explain. "Whether you approve it or not, Mr. Ford, I have to leave today."
"Fine. I dare you to leave," Jasper Ford sneered. ’If she dares to step one foot out of this company during work hours without my permission, I’ll dock every last cent of her salary!’
’He refused to believe she actually had the guts!’
Without another word, Vivian Quincy picked up her bag and walked out right in front of Jasper Ford.
She didn’t look back, moving so fast it was more like she was running than walking.
It was the first time Jasper Ford had ever seen such a panicked look on Vivian Quincy’s face. He sensed something must have happened. He said to Caden Chandler, "Get the car."
"Are you going out, sir?" Caden Chandler asked, surprised.
"Mm," Jasper Ford hummed in affirmation, his eyes fixed thoughtfully on Vivian Quincy’s retreating figure.
Having worked for Jasper Ford for many years, Caden Chandler knew at a glance what his boss wanted. He had the car ready in an instant and followed Vivian Quincy.
She was walking quickly. She got straight onto a bus at the stop downstairs from the company. Caden Chandler followed in the car, stopping and starting with the bus’s route until it finally pulled up in front of a hospital.
"That’s odd. Why is Vivian Quincy going to the hospital?" Caden Chandler said in surprise. "There’s a hospital just a kilometer from Imperium Group. If she wasn’t feeling well, she could have just gone there. Why come all this way?"
Jasper Ford, sitting in the back, said nothing. His long, fair fingers rested on the car door, tapping absently as if deep in thought. His sharp gaze was fixed on the large words emblazoned on the hospital building: Crestfall Maternity and Children’s Hospital.
