A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 36: There’s a Child Next to Her
Under normal circumstances, people wouldn’t choose a hospital like this. They’re usually frequented by pregnant women and children.
Without a doubt, Vivian Quincy couldn’t be pregnant, nor had anyone ever seen her with a child.
She had just bolted from the company, so it was clearly an emergency. If she wasn’t sick herself, then a relative or friend must be. Or perhaps, a child she knew.
"Boss, should we go over and take a look?" Caden Chandler couldn’t help but ask.
Jasper Ford shook his head. "It wouldn’t be appropriate."
Caden Chandler reconsidered. "That’s true. If we ran into her inside, it would be difficult to explain. We can’t very well say two grown men are here for a gynecology appointment."
The hospital only had one main entrance, so Vivian Quincy would have to leave through it. To find out who she met, all they had to do was wait outside.
Jasper Ford leaned against the car, a sharp glint in his deep-set eyes. He waited for half an hour until... a graceful figure appeared!
"Boss, Vivian Quincy is out, and there’s a kid with her!" Caden Chandler exclaimed in surprise.
Jasper Ford’s sharp gaze snapped to her side. Sure enough, a delicate-looking child was standing right next to her. His brow furrowed tightly.
Caden Chandler was puzzled. "Who’s that kid? She looks pretty young. Why is she walking with just Vivian Quincy? It couldn’t be her child, could it? If I remember correctly, her employment file states she’s unmarried."
"If she isn’t married, where would the child have come from?"
Caden Chandler turned around and saw Jasper Ford’s gaze locked onto Vivian Quincy, his eyes so sharp they could freeze a man to death. From the front seat, Caden could feel a distinct chill emanating from his boss.
’So cold!’ 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Without a doubt, the boss was furious!
A chill ran down Caden Chandler’s spine. He instinctively clutched at the front of his shirt and peered cautiously out the window, only to see Vivian Quincy walking away. Another woman, who had been trailing behind her, hurried forward, grabbed the little girl’s hand, gave her a smack on the bottom, and pulled her away!
Caden Chandler was surprised by the scene. "Boss, that’s not Vivian Quincy’s kid."
Vivian Quincy was already walking in the opposite direction from the little girl. She clearly saw the girl being pulled away but didn’t spare a single glance. Obviously, they didn’t know each other!
Just like when she had left the company, she was alone, carrying nothing but her purse. ’Is she feeling unwell?’
There was no other reasonable explanation.
Jasper Ford’s expression was grim. He wondered if he had been giving Vivian Quincy too much work lately. She had been working overtime all day; had it taken a toll on her health?
Even though he knew Vivian Quincy was no saint, she was still just a girl in her early twenties. On reflection, Jasper Ford felt he might have been a bit too harsh on her lately.
He watched the girl sitting on a bench at the bus stop. It was the peak of rush hour, and several buses came and went, but they were all so packed that Vivian Quincy couldn’t get on.
"Drive," Jasper Ford ordered Caden Chandler.
The car soon pulled up beside the bus stop. The man rolled down the window and tossed out two cold words: "Get in."
Vivian Quincy froze when she saw Jasper Ford. Her large eyes blinked in confusion as she looked around, then she patted her cheeks to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating before standing up. "Boss, what are you doing here?"
The man was impatient. "Why all the questions?"
Vivian Quincy’s face stiffened.
Cars behind them started honking, and fearing she was holding up traffic, she had no choice but to open the door and get in.
This wasn’t her first time in Jasper Ford’s car, but on all previous occasions, she had been in the driver’s seat. This was the first time she was a passenger in the back!
Now that she didn’t have to drive, Vivian Quincy finally had a moment to take in Jasper Ford’s car. Just like the man himself, it screamed wealth from every corner!
The back seat was incredibly comfortable. More importantly, Caden Chandler was a very smooth driver, making for an enjoyable ride.
Vivian Quincy suddenly understood why all the big bosses loved having chauffeurs!
She leaned back carefully. The seat was soft and comfortable. A pleasant smile graced her beautiful lips as she asked curiously, "Boss, when did you spot me? How come I didn’t see you?"
"You’re blind," the man replied bluntly.
’A vein throbbed on her forehead. Ugh, forget it! I shouldn’t have even bothered asking him that!’
There was a bus stop a short distance ahead. Vivian Quincy said to Caden Chandler, "Please stop at the next station. I’m going to take the bus."
Caden Chandler glanced at Jasper Ford, a silent question in his eyes.
Jasper Ford said coldly, "I’m attending a gala later. You’re coming with me."
"Isn’t Caden here for that? Besides, my shift is over. I don’t work overtime. Please let me out at the next stop." Vivian Quincy’s tone was firm, her cheeks puffed out indignantly. She didn’t look the least bit sick!
Seeing that she had enough energy to fight an ox, Jasper Ford smirked. "You get triple pay for overtime."
The girl’s large, dark, grape-like eyes twinkled, and she was tempted. "How much is triple pay? Even if you offer, Boss, I might never actually see that money. So why should I work overtime? I’m not doing it."
’This devil of a boss docks my pay at the drop of a hat. My base salary is barely enough to cover his deductions!’
’I’ll probably work hard all month and not even see a cent!’
’It’s exhausting just thinking about it. No pay, no motivation. That’s why I absolutely refuse to work overtime. It’s not like he can hold a knife to my throat and force me!’
Vivian Quincy’s resolve was firm. She was about to turn and look out the window when she saw the man’s long, fair fingers casually pull out a wallet. He drew out five one-hundred-yuan bills, his deep, sexy voice a tempting lure. "Is this enough?"
’Cash payment for overtime! And five hundred yuan!’
Taking a deep breath, Vivian Quincy told herself to hold firm and not abandon her principles for a few hundred yuan. She said very seriously, "Don’t think I’ll work overtime just because you offer me money. I’m not that kind of person!"
Jasper Ford pulled out two more bills.
Vivian Quincy scoffed. "I told you, I won’t be swayed."
Jasper Ford nonchalantly pulled out three more bills. "Yes or no. Is it enough?"
"What’s a thousand yuan? I don’t even like money. But... I do seem to really like working overtime." She snatched the ten bills from his hand and stuffed them into her purse with lightning speed. Brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead, Vivian Quincy said to Caden Chandler, "You can drive now."
’What happened to not liking money? How were her hands so fast? He hadn’t even clearly seen her move before all the cash was in her purse. She was really something else...’
Caden Chandler was speechless.
But Jasper Ford, sitting beside her, was pensively studying her exquisite profile. A faint smile played on his lips, one that even he himself hadn’t noticed.
