The lights in the room suddenly went out.
The bright room was plunged into darkness in an instant. Vivian Quincy’s breathing quickened. She instinctively reached out to push Jasper Ford away, but the moment her hand touched his chest, it was seized by his large palm. His grip was incredibly strong!
"President..." Vivian Quincy’s voice trembled slightly.
Her soft voice made Jasper Ford’s brow tighten as he recalled the tear-filled whimpers of the girl from that night six years ago.
This wasn’t the first time Jasper Ford had found Vivian Quincy’s voice strangely familiar.
In the darkness, he was like a lurking beast. His aggressive gaze seemed to want to strip a person bare, and that look terrified Vivian Quincy!
Her back was pressed tightly against the door. She didn’t know if it was the intimidating aura radiating from the man or her own extreme nervousness, but her legs uncontrollably grew weak.
"Young Master, the matriarch is looking for you." Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door. It was the butler.
Trapped against the door, Vivian Quincy clung to the interruption like a lifeline and said hurriedly, "Someone’s looking for you."
Jasper Ford casually flicked the lights on. The earlier savagery in his eyes was gone, and his gaze toward Vivian Quincy was now exceedingly cold.
He pushed Vivian Quincy, who was blocking the way, aside and opened the door.
The butler stood waiting at the door with a pleasant smile.
"I’ll be right there." After speaking to the butler, Jasper Ford returned to his room and changed into some loungewear. When he came out, Vivian Quincy was still there. Jasper Ford said, "Think carefully about how you’re going to answer my question from earlier."
Then, Jasper Ford left.
Vivian Quincy’s cheeks burned as she rushed out of the room. ’I can’t stay in this place for another minute! I really can’t stand that man; he’s like a devil!’
Seeing her leaving in such a hurry, the butler asked, "Are you leaving, Miss? The Young Master is busy at the moment. Aren’t you going to wait for him?"
"No, I have to get back. Thank you." Vivian Quincy shook her head politely.
She clutched her phone and hurried away from the Ford residence. Once she was a safe distance away, she called Beanie. He didn’t answer but sent Vivian a text to let her know he was safe.
Vivian was still uneasy. On her way home, she couldn’t stop thinking about how to bring Beanie home. Then it hit her—she must be crazy. ’I shouldn’t have come back with Jasper today. The Ford family’s butler already recognized me. If I come back to get Beanie, he’ll definitely recognize me again. Once Jasper finds out, who knows if Beanie will be allowed to leave.’
Wanda Quincy was now the head of Quincy Enterprises, rich and powerful. She had also been visiting Imperium Group frequently these past few days, a clear sign she and Jasper Ford had reconciled. If Wanda wanted to harm Beanie, there was no guarantee Jasper wouldn’t help her.
Vivian Quincy was a mess. Even after getting home, she couldn’t sleep, and just buried her face in her pillow.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Thinking it was from Hayden Kaye, Vivian Quincy didn’t answer. A moment later, a video call came through. Vivian picked up her phone and saw it was her good friend, Anna. She answered, and Anna’s furious voice immediately burst out: "Vivian Quincy, you’ve got some nerve! You’ve been in Crestfall for so long without contacting me. Have you completely forgotten I exist?!"
Vivian Quincy covered her ears, which were ringing from the shouting, and said sheepishly, "I’m sorry, I’ve been really busy these past few days."
"What could you possibly be so busy with? Didn’t I tell you to let me know as soon as you got to Crestfall?" Anna scolded. Her immense anger was palpable even through the screen.
Vivian Quincy said, "I’ve been in a bit of trouble lately, and I didn’t want to drag you into it."
"Trouble?" The furious Anna suddenly calmed down. "Is Wanda Quincy giving you trouble?"
"Yeah." Vivian Quincy nodded. "She kidnapped Beanie."
"Oh my god, that vicious, crazy woman! How is Beanie now?" Anna asked anxiously.
Vivian Quincy said, "Beanie escaped, and now he’s living at Wanda Quincy’s fiancé’s house..."
Anna was completely baffled by Vivian Quincy and quickly cut her off. "Whoa, slow down and let me get this straight. Wanda Quincy kidnapped Beanie to threaten you, then Beanie escaped and is now living at Wanda Quincy’s fiancé’s house? W-What... What kind of soap opera is this? You call that escaping? That’s clearly jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire!"
Vivian Quincy felt helpless. "I didn’t expect this to happen either."
"So how is Beanie now?" Anna asked worriedly. "Has Wanda Quincy’s fiancé mistreated him?"
"I don’t think so." Vivian Quincy shook her head. "He doesn’t know Beanie is my son, and Wanda probably hasn’t told him either."
"So that means Wanda Quincy has no idea Beanie is at her fiancé’s house, then?" Anna asked.
Vivian Quincy nodded. "That’s right."
Anna thought for a long time before saying, "Well, you can’t hide the truth forever. As soon as Wanda visits her fiancé, she’s bound to find Beanie. If she uses him to threaten you again, you’ll be completely at her mercy. This won’t do. We have to get Beanie home first."
"But I can’t be the one to get him. My cover will be blown the moment I show up." Vivian Quincy hung her head in dejection, completely overwhelmed with frustration.
Anna said, "How about I go get Beanie for you? He’s met me before. If I go pick him up, it won’t blow your cover even if I run into Wanda’s fiancé. He probably wouldn’t do anything to me and Beanie."
"Really?" Vivian Quincy was overjoyed.
Anna nodded. "Of course. But you have to treat me to a nice meal."
"Deal. As long as you can bring Beanie home, I’ll treat you to anything you want," Vivian Quincy agreed with a beautiful smile.
Anna said, "Then it’s settled. I’ll go get Beanie tomorrow at noon. You should give him a heads-up beforehand."
"Okay!" Vivian Quincy nodded emphatically. After saying goodnight to Anna, she lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling with a sense of relief. ’I’ll see Beanie soon. I haven’t seen him for so many days... I wonder if he’s gotten thinner, or if he’s been going hungry...’
The next morning, Vivian Quincy was particularly diligent, organizing the documents Jasper Ford wanted bright and early.
Jasper Ford noticed she was acting as if she’d been shot with adrenaline, but he said nothing.
Once Jasper Ford had finished all his morning meetings, Vivian Quincy entered his office carrying a thick stack of documents. She placed them on his desk and said, "President, I’d like to request some time off this afternoon."
"Fine." Jasper Ford was surprisingly agreeable.
Vivian Quincy was ecstatic. "Thank you, President."
"Taking time off is fine, but..." His voice trailed off, and then he smiled. "I’ll have to dock three months of your salary."
Vivian Quincy’s smile froze on her face. "I’ll just be gone for a little while."
"I’m not saying you can’t go. I’m just saying I’ll dock your pay," Jasper Ford said nonchalantly as he opened one of the files and began to read it intently.
Vivian Quincy wanted to argue, but she saw Caden Chandler walk in and had no choice but to step aside.
Caden Chandler said, "President, Master Kaye is here again."
The hand Jasper Ford was using to flip through the documents paused. He looked up at Vivian Quincy with a smirk and said, "Go on."
"I’m not taking time off to see him!" Vivian Quincy explained. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Jasper Ford remained perfectly still, clearly having no interest in hearing her excuses.
Dejectedly, Vivian Quincy lowered her head and walked out in silence. She slumped over her desk, sulking instead of working.
Caden Chandler glanced at her and couldn’t help but say, "President, Vivian Quincy might really have something urgent to attend to..."
"What kind of urgent business could she possibly have?" Jasper Ford sneered.
