Chapter 151: Promises and Worries

Qiong Xing had often listened to the stories told by the fathers who already had children in the hideout.

Many times they would complain and asking why their child had inherited such strange habits from them.

Thinking about those stories, Qiong Xing imagined himself running around behind his child in worry.

The image made him laugh.

"Yeah... if that happens, I probably won’t even have time to sit around feeling depressed," Elias said with a small smile.

"That’s right. Do your best, Papa," Qiong Xing replied playfully.

"Hm? Isn’t Mama going to work hard too?" Elias asked.

"Mama doesn’t have much physical strength," Qiong Xing said with a light laugh. "I’m sure the Papas will do their best. You shouldn’t underestimate a child’s energy."

"In that case, we’re the right people for the job," Elias replied. "Mama should stay beside us and watch over everything so he doesn’t collapse."

"As expected of Papa," Qiong Xing said warmly.

Elias laughed and said that it couldn’t be helped. Then he leaned closer and gave Qiong Xing a gentle kiss as if accepting the responsibility.

Qiong Xing had been right.

Being "destined mates" was only the beginning.

Even though people called it fate, there were still some who rejected their destined partner.

In the end, whether two people truly fell in love still depended on their own feelings and choices.

The reason Elias loved Qiong Xing so deeply and desired him so much was simply because Qiong Xing was himself. He’s kind, warm, and incredibly charming.

And the fact that someone like Qiong Xing loved him in return was something Elias could only feel grateful for.

"I love you, Qiong Xing," Elias said quietly.

"I love you too, Elias," Qiong Xing replied.

There would probably be times in the future when Elias would feel anxious again.

But if it was Qiong Xing, Elias believed that he would once again hold him close and whisper words of love like this.

Thinking about that made the fear inside Elias’s heart grow a little smaller.

After returning home that day, Qiong Xing and the others settled back into the hideout.

Elias stayed with Cari, while Qiong Xing and Leander went into their room together.

"Are you really sure about this?" Qiong Xing asked quietly.

"Yeah," Leander replied calmly. "That child is Elias’s, but it’s also my child. So stop worrying so much. Just because my movements get a little slower doesn’t mean I’m going to die."

Qiong Xing understood that.

He knew it, which was why they had gone to gather the herbs in the first place.

Still, the herbs that suppressed Leander’s mating season came with side effects.

They made the body feel heavy and slowed down a person’s movements.

Even though Qiong Xing knew this was the best option, he still felt guilty for making Leander endure something unpleasant.

"Don’t make that face," Leander said. "This is way easier than dealing with the mating season alone."

"...You’re right," Qiong Xing admitted quietly.

He didn’t know how many times this situation might happen in the future.

But he was sure that there would be moments again when Leander would have to endure like this. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"If there’s anything... anything I can do, please tell me," Qiong Xing said sincerely.

"I told you already, you didn’t do anything wrong," Leander replied. "And besides, we’re still going to have sex anyway, so you’ll end up dealing with the burden too."

The herb they had collected that day only suppressed the mating season.

It didn’t erase it completely.

Leander had suggested it because he wanted to reduce the strain on Qiong Xing and for that Qiong Xing felt nothing but gratitude.

"Thank you, Leander," Qiong Xing said softly.

"For you, I’d do anything," Leander replied casually. "Anyway, you’re almost four months pregnant now, right? If that’s the case and your stomach only looks like this, then the baby must be human. If it were a beastman, your stomach would already be so big that moving around would be difficult."

Leander reached out and gently touched Qiong Xing’s stomach, which had started to swell slightly.

Qiong Xing had already suspected that might be the case, so he wasn’t very surprised.

"It seems that the stable period starts around the fifth month," Qiong Xing said. "So I have to be careful until then."

"Yeah, that makes sense," Leander said. "Who told you that?"

"The guild master," Qiong Xing replied. "When I went there the other day, she explained many things to me. I tend to forget things easily, so Albe was desperately writing everything down."

Qiong Xing laughed lightly as he remembered it.

Leander could only smile awkwardly.

When Qiong Xing had been nodding while listening to the explanation, Albe had apparently become worried.

He borrowed paper and a pen and started writing quickly. He was determined not to miss a single word.

"Is that guy your mother or something?" Leander said with a snort. "Well, honestly, that was a smart decision."

"Hey, that’s mean," Qiong Xing protested. "I can act like a proper mama too—"

"You mean like the time you tried to help Mr. Hofmann and attempted to carry a heavy box?"

"...."

How had Leander found out?

Qiong Xing clearly avoided eye contact, but Leander was smiling brightly.

That smile was terrifying.

"Fei told me," Leander said cheerfully.

"...I see," Qiong Xing replied.

He tried to smile back even though his face felt stiff.

The moment he did it, he already knew it wouldn’t work.

And seriously what unnecessary thing had Fei done? Qiong Xing had specifically asked him to keep quiet.

While silently blaming the traitor Fei, Qiong Xing desperately tried to find a way to explain himself.

"It really wasn’t that heavy," Qiong Xing said. "Fei was just overly worried—"

"Oh really? Even though the box was filled with ore?" Leander replied casually. "I heard you tried to lift it because you didn’t want to lose to Mr. Hofmann who carried it so easily."

Trying to shift the blame onto Fei had completely failed.
