365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet-Chapter 154: Only for Eighth’s Matching
Zinnia’s face flushed slightly with guilt, feeling too ashamed to look at the delight on the Old Madam’s face.
She nodded, "Grandma, I’m sorry. I clearly knew how much you wished for me and Third Brother to have a baby, yet I still hid this matter from you, I..."
Unable to lift her head in shame, Zinnia was embraced directly by the Old Madam, who patted her back.
"Child, you must have been wronged."
As a woman herself, she knew the magnitude of grievances and accumulation of disappointments that would lead one to hide a pregnancy and decide to leave and raise the child alone.
How could Old Madam Forrest not know?
"Silly child, there’s not enough time to feel both happy and concerned for you, why would I blame you? Good, good, it’s great that you’re pregnant!"
Thud!
A light sound made Zinnia turn her head.
It was Katherine’s handbag that had fallen to the ground; she was staring with astonishment, her gaze complicatedly fixed on Zinnia’s belly.
"Are you really pregnant? Since you’ve been pregnant for a while, knowing Eighth is waiting to be saved, yet you chose to hide it..."
Katherine quickly showed anger.
She felt Zinnia did it on purpose, surely knowing all along that the child in Crystal’s belly wasn’t Jenson’s, now using this moment to slap her in the face.
Seeing her make a fool of herself and pretending to want a divorce, all because she was leveraging the Forrest family’s golden grandchild for playing hard to get.
"Shut up!"
Old Madam Forrest’s face darkened as she angrily interrupted Katherine’s unreasonable words.
Katherine was shaken to silence, and only then did she see Jenson’s cold, frosty expression.
The way he looked at her was as if he were seeing a stranger, nothing like his own mother.
Katherine’s expression turned stiff for a moment, her hands clenched tight.
Seeing this, the Old Madam patted Zinnia’s hand again, speaking soothingly: "Zinnia, I didn’t know today, and wasn’t able to bring a gift for our little baby. Grandma will make it up next time."
Zinnia shook her head, "Wait until Coco is born, Grandma can give it then, it’s still early."
Old Madam Forrest smiled and touched Zinnia’s belly, "The baby is called Coco, huh? That’s a good nickname, suitable for both boys and girls. Coco, I am your Great-grandma, grow quickly and meet me soon!"
Zinnia pressed her lips together, her gaze also on her still flat belly, her eyebrows gentle, her eyes soft like water.
She didn’t realize that when she was staring at her belly, Jenson, sitting beside her, was also fixed on her, not taking his eyes off for a moment.
The man was completely like an obsessive husband, his thin lips softly curved, layers of ripples spreading in his eyes like ice breaking.
Katherine stood there, incompatible with the atmosphere.
Old Madam Forrest stood up at this moment, "You young couple must have a lot to talk about. Grandma won’t intrude on your private world."
Having been disrupted by Katherine, she had lost her joyful mood.
Zinnia hurriedly stood up, "Then I’ll walk Grandma out."
"No! You sit properly, don’t move at all!" Old Madam Forrest pressed Zinnia back onto the hospital bed, as if she was a fragile treasure.
She further cautioned Jenson, "Take good care of your wife. If she gets hurt again, don’t call me Grandma!"
After saying that, she took Katherine and left the ward. Once outside, the smile on Old Madam’s face vanished.
No words were said on the way, and after getting into the car, Katherine sat beside the Old Madam, feeling a bit tense.
The Old Madam’s face was full of authority, clearly angry, and Katherine was still somewhat afraid of this mother-in-law.
"Mom, I’m just worried that Zinnia might not know better, fussing with the child and causing mishaps..."
Katherine couldn’t withstand the pressure and started to make excuses; Old Madam Forrest glared at her with cloudy yet sharp eyes.
Katherine froze, then Old Madam Forrest spoke heavily.
"You know very well why! Zinnia is carrying Jenson’s child, your direct grandchild, not a tool for saving Eighth! Get rid of that thought!"
Old Madam knew Katherine was hoping Zinnia’s baby could match with Eighth for treatment and completely cure his illness.
But it was natural to hold hope in such matters.
To treat that unborn child as merely a tool to cure and save lives would be extremely unfair to the child, to Zinnia and Jenson!
In the future, when the child is born, with Zinnia’s feelings for Eighth, even if nobody mentions it, she would certainly volunteer for matching.
Being able to match successfully is a gift from above to the Forrest family; if unsuccessful, there’s no need to bear guilt or disappointment, for fate has its own course.
Old Madam didn’t want Zinnia to be burdened with unwarranted pressure from the start of pregnancy; a woman’s pregnancy is not easy, sensitivity calls for care.
"Saving Eighth is not the responsibility or obligation of Jenson and his wife. Don’t bring this up again before the child is born! Understand?"
Old Madam severely admonished Katherine, who nodded.
"I understand, Mom."
Old Madam could see her insincere acknowledgment, she continued to scold, "Years ago when Jenson had an accident, you made a foolish decision once, hurting Jenson’s heart, and mother-child relations have been tepid ever since. If now you treat Jenson’s child as a miracle cure, how would Jenson feel? Even as one’s own son, he couldn’t withstand repeated heartache! Weigh it yourself!"
Hearing the mention of the past years, Katherine’s face instantly turned a ghastly white.
Thinking back to those years reminded her of Zinnia, whom she disapproved of and always opposed.
Katherine showed regret and anger, mumbling.
"Stella was perfect in every way, close to me too. If she had survived that year, now with Jenson..."
Her words left unfinished, she received another severe glance from Old Madam Forrest.
Katherine shut her mouth, the Old Madam also felt weariness and sadness from recalling past events, closed her eyes and said nothing more.
In the hospital room, after Old Madam Forrest took Katherine away, Zinnia pressed her lips silently.
"What’s wrong?"
Jenson pulled her back into his embrace again, lowering his eyes to ask.
Zinnia felt uncomfortable because of Katherine’s words.
She cared deeply about Julia and wanted to save Eighth.
But Coco was also her treasure, she didn’t want Coco to be just a beacon of hope and tool for saving Eighth.
She desired for Coco to be free of any burdens, a child arriving under the love and expectations of mom and dad, not for anyone else.
However, Zinnia wasn’t sure if Jenson brought her back from the airport merely because of the baby, because Coco might save Eighth...
"Third Brother, if Coco and Eighth don’t match successfully, would you be disappointed?"
Zinnia’s eyelashes trembled slightly, her eyes lifted.
Jenson noticed her unease, held her, and used his fingers to brush the worried crease from her brow.
"Pregnancy muddled you?"
Zinnia blinked, puffing her cheeks.
Jenson poked her cheeks again, "Coco is our child, I look forward to his birth simply because I’m his dad. It has nothing to do with anyone or anything else, don’t mind Mother’s words, don’t let your mind wander, hmm?"
Zinnia nodded, a smile returned to her face, "But I do hope Coco can save Uncle, though."
She suddenly remembered something, pulling on Jenson’s collar, "Where’s my phone?"
Zinnia’s phone had been confiscated by Jenson earlier and hadn’t been returned.
