Chapter 125: Lily’s Defiance

Lily sat up coldly from his embrace, but Ethan pulled her back down before she could fully steady herself.

He turned to the side, holding her tightly, his long legs, still clad in trousers, pressing against her body, his warm breath enveloping her.

Lily struggled in disgust, using all her strength to push his arms away.

But his arms were like iron, holding her firmly. Even in his sleep, she couldn’t budge him.

"I think you’ve misunderstood. I’m not your niece’s husband."

"Lily is my mistress. Our relationship started over a month ago."

"Did you really think your niece could become the wife of the CEO of Blackwood Enterprise? She’s not even close to being worthy."

"That money was earned with your niece’s body. You should be thanking her, not hitting her!"

"Lily, you have nothing from head to toe that can compete with me."

"Betraying me, putting a green hat on me, was your most foolish choice!"

The memories from yesterday came flooding back. Lily glared at his peaceful, sleeping face, and anger surged within her, making her breathing uneven with disgust.

He had destroyed her family.

Her uncle, a man of great pride, was probably unable to sleep, and the magazine—there was no way he could keep it running...

Her uncle would never accept running the magazine with money earned from his niece’s body.

This man... He had used every possible method to exact his revenge on her.

She truly hated him.

She had never hated anyone as much as she hated him now... He had destroyed everything she had.

How satisfied did that make him? How satisfied could he be?!

Lily struggled to lift her head from his oppressive hold and, without thinking, bit down hard on his face, sinking her teeth in as an outlet for her anger.

"Ugh—"

Ethan grunted, pushing her away forcefully. His black eyes fluttered open as he slowly woke up.

His strength was immense, and Lily was nearly thrown off the bed. But now free from his embrace, she ignored the pain and immediately tried to get off the bed.

Before she could even lift the blanket, her weak body was pulled back down onto the bed.

"Lily?"

Ethan’s eyes were still slightly dazed with sleep, but his long arm wrapped around her chest, pulling her back as he leaned over and stared down at her. His face looked better than it had the day before.

He rubbed his temples and lay back down beside her. His deep, magnetic voice murmured in her ear, "Be good. Sleep a bit longer."

Lily glared coldly at the man beside her. Was he pretending to have amnesia? Yesterday, he had trampled her into nothing, and today, he was cuddling her, saying things like that?

His mood swings were terrifying.

"Let me go!" Lily shouted in disgust. How could he change so quickly?!

Now, it wasn’t him who found her filthy—it was her who found him repulsive!

Hearing her shout, Ethan sat up from the bed. His sleepy eyes locked onto her as he suddenly pulled her back into his arms, leaning down as if to kiss her.

"Slap—"

Lily slapped him hard without hesitation.

Ethan’s head snapped to the side from the force of the slap, and his drowsiness disappeared instantly. His eyes filled with icy rage.

Two slaps!

From yesterday to today, she had dared to slap him twice!

Did this woman have a death wish?!

"Lily Anderson!" Ethan snarled, pinning her down on the bed. His hands gripped her shoulders tightly, his knees pressing on either side of her body as he glared down at her. "Are you trying to rebel?!"

Lily, with her shoulders pinned down, couldn’t use her strength. She glared back at him coldly, then turned away to look out the window.

"Lily Anderson!" Ethan grabbed her chin, forcing her to face him. "Lily! I’m warning you, don’t push me.

"Push you?!" Lily suddenly interrupted him, staring at his overly handsome face with disgust that matched her anger. "What else can you do? Destroy the magazine? Kill my uncle’s family? Kill my father, kill Alex Carter... and finally, kill me too?"

Her sharp words left him momentarily speechless.

"Ethan, do you even realize how disgusting you are?" Lily stared straight into his increasingly furious face, her disdain palpable. "Let me tell you something—if I’m sick, it’s only because I’m as sick as you."

"Lily, you’re asking for death!" Ethan, now wholly enraged, wrapped his hand around her throat, his fingers squeezing tightly.

Lily’s eyes were filled with arrogance as she stared back at him coldly, her gaze full of contempt.

She didn’t flinch. She didn’t say a word.

Sweat beaded on Ethan’s forehead as his anger grew, his dark eyes bloodshot, his fingers tightening around her neck.

He was waiting for her to beg for mercy, waiting for her to yield.

But Lily closed her eyes. What difference did it make now, whether she lived or died?

She had already turned her uncle’s life into a living nightmare, and when her father got out of prison, he would realize that his daughter, whom he thought was pursuing a graduate degree, had become a man’s mistress.

Her life was already ruined...

And it was all thanks to Ethan Blackwood.

"Ah..."

"Crash—"

Nanny’s scream rang out from the doorway, where she had dropped the breakfast tray in shock. She rushed over, shouting, "Mr. Blackwood, let go! You’re going to kill Miss Anderson!"

Ethan’s rage momentarily cleared, but his fingers remained around Lily’s neck.

She had her eyes tightly shut, her lips pressed into a firm line, her expression one of reckless defiance, unafraid of death.

He knew she wouldn’t beg.

"Lily Anderson! You’ve got some nerve!" Ethan yelled angrily, releasing his grip on her neck. He threw himself off the bed, kicking the nightstand in frustration as he stormed out of the room.

Lily finally opened her eyes. Her gaze was as cold and lifeless as still water.

"You’re okay, Miss Anderson. It’s all over now." Nanny sat on the edge of the bed, trying to comfort her. She tucked the blankets around Lily. "Don’t be afraid. I’ll go get you some breakfast. How about eggs, cooked just the way you like them?"

Lily remained silent.

Only after Nanny left the room did Lily get up from the bed. She opened the floor-to-ceiling window and walked out onto the balcony.

She crouched down, leaning against the balcony railing, wrapping her arms around her knees as she stared blankly at the view of Shallow Bay.

She had never understood why her mother had chosen such an extreme way to end her life.

To her, it had always seemed like such a foolish decision.

But now, she was beginning to understand. How could one not consider such an extreme choice in moments of extreme despair?

However, she would never follow in her mother’s footsteps.

Even if the road ahead was filled with despair, choosing to end her own life was still the most foolish option...

"Miss Anderson, your breakfast is ready."

Nanny stepped out onto the balcony with the breakfast tray, smiling kindly. "Come inside, Miss Anderson. You should rest in bed. You’re not well."

Lily didn’t even spare her a glance, her eyes still vacant as she stared at the scenery beyond the balcony railing.

Autumn leaves, tinged with elegant shades of yellow, floated gently down in the Shallow Bay neighborhood...

"Miss Anderson?" Nanny crouched in front of her, holding the breakfast tray. "Aren’t you hungry? Come, have some breakfast. The milk is warmed just right."

Lily frowned slightly, finally glancing at Nanny before standing up and walking back inside.

"Miss Anderson..." Nanny called after her, confused. What’s wrong with her? She’s not talking, and she’s not eating her breakfast either.

Lily turned back and asked in a flat tone, "Do you have any headphones?"

"Oh, yes, yes."

After retrieving the headphones, Lily immediately put them on, plugging them into her ears. She returned to the balcony, sitting on the ground again, hugging her knees tightly as loud rock music blasted into her ears.

"Miss Anderson? Miss Anderson?!"

Nanny stood there, feeling helpless. She wanted the headphones so she wouldn’t have to hear me anymore.

But how can someone with stomach problems go without eating?

Nanny hurried downstairs, carrying the breakfast tray. In front of the mirror, a maid was helping Ethan put on his suit jacket and tie.

Ethan wore a Bluetooth headset in his ear and coldly issued orders: "Whatever the Carter Group wants to buy, make sure we get it before they do."

Seeing that Ethan was in the middle of a business call, Nanny stood aside, not daring to interrupt.

"I don’t care if I spend money on useless land. Don’t argue with me! My father has no control over domestic affairs!" Ethan said coldly, adjusting his dark tie with his long fingers.

"Tell the East China division executives to be in the conference room in ten minutes." Letting the maid finish buttoning his shirt, Ethan ended the call and strode toward the door.

Nanny quickly followed him. "Mr. Blackwood, Mr. Blackwood."

"Hm?"

"Miss Anderson isn’t eating breakfast."

Ethan’s eyes narrowed as his gaze fell on the untouched breakfast in Nanny’s hands. His expression instantly darkened.

That woman... she still dares to throw a tantrum with me!

Ethan stared angrily at the untouched breakfast, cursing under his breath as he stormed back upstairs.

His expression was dark as he strode toward the master bedroom, unbuttoning his suit cuffs.

Today, if I don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll really think she’s something special.

Ethan stopped in his tracks when he reached the doorway.

The floor-to-ceiling window was slightly open, and the curtains fluttered gently in the breeze. Lily was sitting on the balcony, wearing the pale pink nightgown he had given her last night. Her long hair was tucked behind her ears, and the white cord from her headphones trailed down from her ears.

She was sitting on the ground, hugging her knees, her empty gaze fixed in the distance. Her profile was still as beautiful as ever.

She didn’t even notice the few leaves that had floated down onto her.

Is she that lost in thought?

Is she thinking about Alex Carter again?!

Ethan stood at the doorway, watching her. He wanted to rush over and grab her, to interrogate her, but his feet refused to move.

This woman... She was getting thinner by the day, and if he didn’t keep his strength in check, he might accidentally kill her one of these days.

Nanny came up behind him, puzzled as to why Ethan wasn’t moving. Isn’t he in a hurry to go to a meeting? Why isn’t he making Miss Lily eat her breakfast?

Minutes passed, and Ethan remained in the same position while Lily didn’t move from her balcony.

For a long time, Lily’s expression remained unchanged.

She sat there like a porcelain doll in a display window—beautiful, delicate, but lifeless.

She had no breath of life, no expression.

It felt as though something precious was slowly slipping away...

A sudden sense of unease settled over Ethan.

After a while, he finally walked onto the balcony and yanked the headphones out of her ears. The loud, jarring rock music blared into the room.

"Lily, do you want to go deaf? Why is the music so loud?!" Ethan shouted.

Lily slowly lifted her head and glanced at him coldly and indifferently before pulling the headphones back and plugging them into her ears again.

If I go deaf, I won’t have to hear him yelling anymore. I’d rather be deaf.

This woman!

Ethan was so furious he almost reached out to slap her, but his fist stopped in midair. Instead, he lowered his hand in frustration and shouted, "Who gave her the headphones?!"

Nanny stepped forward nervously. "Miss Anderson asked for it... I thought letting her listen to music might cheer her up."

Music?!

She’s not listening to music—she’s destroying her ears!

Ethan stormed over and ripped the white cord from her ears, throwing the headphones out of the balcony window.
