Chapter 41: RETURNING TO THE ACADEMY

Levi was currently driving the drifter. The drifter moved through the forest like it is as if being driven by an expert who had spent years perfecting their driving skills.

"Are you sure you haven’t driven a drifter before?" Ruby asked beside him. She gazed at Levi like he was a demon in human clothing.

She remembered vividly how she was telling him what to do just moments ago, and now, he was driving the drifter like it was nothing.

’He is better than me in just a short moment,’ she thought with a mental sigh.

"This is my first time," Levi said with a calm smile.

He was enjoying the feeling of driving the drifter, the way he maneuvered through the tall trees, the feeling of being on the ground, but still not on it. Even if he was flying, it would pale in comparison to his current feeling.

"Just take it easy, you are going too fast," Ruby reminded.

Levi nodded calmly, his eyes never leaving the road.

As they drifted through the bush, Ruby’s face suddenly shrank. "Wasn’t this the place we ran away from the treants yesterday?" She asked, her brows arcing in confusion. "What could have happened here?" She added.

Levi just drove on, not bothering to answer her question or convince her.

Seeing as Levi was not responding, she tilted her head, a silent sigh releasing from her lips. ’He likes acting mysteriously,’ she mused with a soft smile.

After driving for another 10 minutes, they finally reached the spot where they had appeared earlier today.

Without exchanging words, they both stepped out of the drifter. Under the calm gaze of Levi, Ruby returned the drifter to the storage orb. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"I will activate the plaque now," Levi warned, not wanting to catch her off guard by using it without informing her.

"Alright," she replied with a cheerful tone.

Levi nodded and channelled mana into it slowly. A golden surge of light erupted, devouring them in its radiance before they vanished in a streak.

Reappearing, they were back at the same small room, with the maid still sitting in her chair, eyes glued to the screen even though she sensed two presences join her.

To her, it was just another pair that completed their mission and was eligible for rewards.

After a few seconds, she finally looked up, eyes locked into Ruby’s, before shifting to Levi.

’Recruits and abandoning missions halfway,’ she thought. ’But this is too early, barely 18 hours, and they are already stopping the mission.’

"We have completed the mission, and we want to return the things you gave to us, alongside collecting our reward," Levi said, breaking the unnerving silence that stretched among them.

"The orb, you may..." The words that were forming in the woman’s mouth hitched mid-speech as Levi’s words registered in her mind.

"You are what?" She asked, her face devoid of emotion, perfectly contrasting her inner turmoil.

"We are done with the mission," Ruby replied this time.

"I am coming, let me confirm from the Overseer," she said to them, her hand blurring across the keyboard as she typed several things at once.

After a short while, she looked up, still maintaining her serious demeanour.

"The principal has confirmed it. Your rewards are one million points each, and a chance to pick any weapon within 5 million points from the Imperial Spy store," she said. "In addition to the bonus thirty thousand points for accepting a mission, I will be transferring 1.3 million points to you," she added.

Levi’s face bloomed as he heard the rewards. Even Ruby was not left behind; she went as far as laughing loudly, making the woman glare at her with a chilling gaze.

The woman’s fingers trailed across the keyboard again.

A ding sound came from Ruby and Levi’s assistants as they received the credit.

"I have sent the points to your student account, and the weapon selection privilege has been sent to your DMs," the lady said again, before collecting the orb and plaque from their hands.

"Thank you," they both said, before walking out of the room, using the small door in front.

They appeared in the vast room again, seeing as people were moving, some even coming from behind them.

Seeing this, both of them got confused. They were the only ones in the office with the woman, but people were coming through the same door as them.

Levi just shrugged his shoulders. ’I can ask her later when I go for another mission,’ he thought.

Instead, his eyes were currently scanning the entire place he had found himself. Beside him, Ruby was equally stunned by the sight.

The place was more like a city than a gathering place. Everything was bubbling with pure chaos, bars, fun parks, houses, and even hotels.

’I wonder how big this place is,’ Levi thought.

"How about we go grab a drink?" Ruby asked beside him.

Levi turned to her, about to refuse.

’Why is her face so close?’ He thought as he saw her face near his own, with literal stars glowing in them.

"I guess so," Levi said, not wanting to ruin her mood.

"I will pay, you don’t have to worry," she said, dragging him towards the nearest bar.

’We have not talked much. I wonder why she believes she can just pull me anywhere,’ Levi reasoned.

"Two glasses of juice," she said to the bartender, while she sat on one of the chairs.

The bar was an outside one, with chairs arranged neatly in a small area. Two were placed in front of the counter, and those were the ones she claimed for herself and Levi.

Levi sat near her while they waited for the drink.

The owner soon came, a young man with blonde hair that flowed down his back. His eyes were pure crimson, and his ears were pointed at the tip, like an elf’s.

He placed the two cups on the table with a bright smile.

’A vampire,’ Levi concluded as his sharp canines were revealed from his smile.

"That will be 1000 points," he said.

Ruby spat the drink in shock, her eyes widened in surprise.

"How much?" She asked again, wanting to confirm what she heard.

"A thousand points," the vampire said again.

"That much? For just a drink," Ruby retorted.

"What do you expect? The spies earn so many points that this amount is nothing to them," he replied. "You guys must be new here if you are surprised."

Ruby nodded gently.
