30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 126: Lily’s Indifference
Ethan yanked the white headphones from her ears and hurled them off the balcony.
This arrogant man.
He wouldn’t let her have a moment of peace on the balcony.
She only wanted some quiet.
Lily watched the white headphones enter the air before landing on the grass below.
The next second, she gripped the balcony railing and stood up. Her legs had long since gone numb, causing her to wobble slightly.
Lily didn’t look at Ethan as she dragged her numb legs past him, walking away.
"Where are you going?!"
Ethan shouted from behind her, reaching out to grab her but pulling his hand back at the last second.
He had grown up fighting, often unable to control his strength.
This woman was so frail that if he used even a little force, he might send her back to the hospital.
Lily didn’t respond, silently leaving the room without even giving him the courtesy of a glance at her retreating figure.
Damn woman!
Ethan kicked the balcony railing in frustration.
He followed her out, his dark eyes locked onto her back as she walked away.
Lily reached the grass, picked up the white headphones, and put them back in her ears. Then, she walked over to a nearby bench and sat down, her expression indifferent—neither relaxed nor tense.
She was calm, detached, and utterly indifferent to the world around her.
Her eyes were vacant, devoid of emotion, as she stared blankly ahead, her gaze unfocused.
Has this woman gone mad?!
Ethan stormed forward and ripped the headphones from her ears again, shouting angrily, "Lily Anderson, what are you trying to pull?!"
She had been sitting quietly, not saying a word—how was she causing trouble?
How could her quietness compare to his outburst when he had dragged her to her uncle’s house and humiliated her like dirt?
Is she going to stop talking to me?
"Lily Anderson! Don’t push me, or I’ll do something you’ll regret!" Ethan clenched the broken headphones in his fist. "I have plenty of ways to make you submit!"
Lily still didn’t say a word.
"Nanny!" Ethan barked, his frustration boiling over.
Nanny hurried over with a breakfast tray, bending down next to Lily as she coaxed gently, "Miss Anderson, please don’t be stubborn anymore. Just eat your breakfast. Mr. Blackwood has a meeting to attend; he can’t stay here with you forever."
Who asked him to stay?
She found it disgusting just having him near her.
Lily’s face remained cold and indifferent, her expression blank, like an empty sheet of paper...
"I’m warning you, eat your breakfast now!" Ethan threatened, lifting the headphones as if to smash them, only to realize they were already broken and no sound was coming from them.
No sound, yet she had still been putting them in her ears?
What is she trying to do?!
Is this her way of throwing a tantrum—by refusing to eat and speak?!
Lily remained seated and unmoving. Her expression didn’t change, and not a flicker of anger or joy crossed her face.
Ethan tossed the broken headphones aside, gritting his teeth. "Lily Anderson, my patience has limits! Don’t push me to the point where I’ll hit you!"
His voice was so loud...
His mouth was the most hateful and cruel she had ever heard, capable of reducing anyone to nothing more than a worthless speck of dust in his eyes.
Has he ever treated anyone like a natural person?
He only cares about himself.
"Miss Anderson, please, just take a bite. At least drink the milk." Nanny urged, her voice full of worry.
Lily finally reacted. She stood up, expressionless, and knocked over the breakfast tray in Nanny’s hands.
The food spilled across the ground.
White milk splattered onto her shoes.
No more breakfast, no more being forced to eat—problem solved.
Lily looked coldly at the mess before walking away from the grassy area.
"Miss Anderson..." Nanny stood there, shocked, staring at her now-empty hands.
What is Miss Anderson trying to do? Is she throwing a tantrum?!
Does she not care about her life anymore? Is she going to keep defying Mr. Blackwood like this?
Lily’s actions completely infuriated Ethan. He stormed forward, grabbing her arm and yanking her back, forcing her to turn and face him. "Lily Anderson, what the hell are you trying to do?!"
Lily stared back at him coldly, not saying a word.
"Are you going to eat or not?!"
Lily stood there like a carved wooden doll, completely unresponsive. Ethan lowered his head and kissed her fiercely, his lips crushing hers as he pulled her body tightly against his...
Lily closed her eyes, letting him ravage her.
Her face remained pale, devoid of emotion.
Kissing her felt like kissing a block of wood... This was the first time Lily had ever given him such a feeling.
Without going any further, Ethan shoved her away. Lily, unable to steady herself, fell to the ground and stared up at him with cold, detached eyes.
She doesn’t even feel anything when I kiss her now?
Good. Very good.
"Lily Anderson! Fine! Starve yourself if that’s what you want! I, Ethan Blackwood, don’t care if you die!"
Ethan glared down at her, shouting in rage before storming off, his tall frame radiating anger.
She doesn’t want to eat? Why am I wasting my time trying to make her?
It’s her stomach, not mine!
If she wants to self-destruct, that’s her problem! What does it have to do with me?!
If she wants to die, she can go right ahead. I’ll write my name backward if I care even a little about whether she lives or dies!
Speeding to Blackwood Enterprise headquarters, Ethan stormed into his private elevator, his expression dark as thunder. As the numbers on the elevator display ticked upward, his fury exploded.
"Lily Anderson! You’ve got nerve! Let’s see how long you can keep this up!"
Ethan kicked the elevator wall in frustration, shouting at the top of his lungs.
Let’s see how long she can keep this up.
Let’s see how far she’ll go if she wants to play the starvation game or the silent treatment!
The elevator doors opened, and his secretary, Helen, was waiting outside. She hesitated at his dark expression but quickly reverted to her professional demeanor. "Mr. Blackwood, everyone has been waiting in the conference room for forty-five minutes."
"Cancel the meeting. Tell them all to get lost!"
Ethan stormed into his office, slamming the door shut behind him and leaving Helen outside.
Sitting at his desk, Ethan pulled open a drawer to reveal a thick stack of photos of Lily...
In the pictures, she is smiling sweetly. Once, she was a chubby little girl, her fair face round and plump.
The Lily of today bore no resemblance to the girl in the photos.
She didn’t even smile anymore!
Today was even worse—she had stared at him with the same blank face, as expressionless as a wooden doll!
"Bang—"
Frustrated, Ethan swept everything off his desk, sending the photos crashing.
The pictures are scattered everywhere.
Photo after photo.
Every one of them was of Lily.
Her name filled every corner of his mind.
Ethan was so angry he felt like killing someone.
The phone on the desk suddenly rang, and Ethan slammed his fist down onto the receiver, answering the call. Helen’s businesslike voice came through the line. "Mr. Blackwood, your father is calling from Europe. Would you like me to transfer the call?"
"I’m not taking it!"
I don’t have the patience for the old man’s lectures.
Just as he was about to hang up, a short burst of music played through the phone.
Then, the powerful, authoritative voice of his father came through. "Ethan, you brought Dr. Joel back to the country, and you don’t even bother to call me?"
His father’s voice dripped with sarcasm.
Ethan gritted his teeth, forcing down his anger as he replied coldly, "What do you want to say?"
"Nothing much. I just heard something interesting—you’ve recently spent nearly three billion buying useless land." His father chuckled, the sound ambiguous—half mocking, half impressed. "Looks like you’ve reached the age where men spend fortunes on women."
Clearly, his father’s words were loaded with meaning.
"What do you know?" Ethan asked, sitting back at his desk, his dark eyes unreadable.
That money was earned through my work in the Asia-Pacific division of Blackwood Enterprise. It has nothing to do with him.
Besides, he never cared how I spent my money. What’s he up to now, trying to lecture me about how to spend my own earnings?
"I know a lot more than you think," his father replied cryptically, his voice carrying a note of amusement. "Ethan, playing around with women is fine, but don’t catch feelings. Once a man gets entangled with a woman, succeeding becomes much harder."
"Women are disposable. There are plenty of them. A real man doesn’t get hung up on one."
Is he trying to teach me how to use women?!
What’s gotten into everyone lately?!
Ethan’s face grew even darker.
His father paused momentarily before adding, "Especially a woman who has put a green hat on you. Ethan, if you’re a real man, you’ll deal with her sooner rather than later."
Ethan shot up from his desk, his face twisted with rage, his hands pressing hard against the desk.
How does he know so much?!
Hearing the commotion on Ethan’s end of the line, his father chuckled darkly. "No need to get so worked up."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I just think... it’s about time I arranged your marriage."
Before Ethan could respond, his father ended the call.
Ethan grabbed the phone and smashed it against the wall.
I’ve built my life independently in Asia, and now the old man wants to meddle in my affairs? He’s insane!
Warm sunlight streamed into the master bedroom, the curtains lazily shifting in the breeze. Nanny paced anxiously around the room.
Lily had been sitting on the sofa all morning, a book in her hands, but she hadn’t turned a single page.
Nanny began to wonder if she had turned into a statue...
How can she keep going without food? Any average person would have given in by now, let alone someone with a severe stomach condition like hers.
"Hello, can I come in?"
The soft knock on the door was followed by a sweet voice.
Lily didn’t need to look up to know that Aiko Nakamura had paid her another visit.
"Miss Nakamura," Nanny greeted politely.
"Hello, Nanny."
Aiko was dressed in a playful, sporty outfit, oddly paired with high heels, which gave her a bright and tall appearance. She walked straight over to Lily.
Her clear eyes glanced at the book in Lily’s hands, and she smiled brightly. "I love this novel, too! Especially the part where the heroine rejects the hero. Such a classic moment."
With that, Aiko plucked the book from Lily’s hands.
Lily silently stared at Aiko’s overly sweet smile, then calmly took the book back, holding it again. She kept her head down, still not turning the page.
"Lily, why aren’t you talking to me?" Aiko asked, sitting down beside her. She rested her hand on the book, her diamond-studded fake nails glinting in the light. "Won’t you at least acknowledge me?"
Lily sighed, giving Aiko a tired look.
She couldn’t tell if Aiko was oblivious or just plain naive. It was apparent Lily didn’t want to be friends, yet Aiko kept pushing, utterly unafraid of being ignored.
"I heard from the maids that you haven’t been eating?" Aiko reached out to touch Lily’s forehead, her big eyes filled with concern. "You can’t go on like this. I know you’re upset with Ethan, but your health is yours. You can’t let yourself waste away just because of some relationship issues."
