My Scheming Little Devil - Chapter 1200: Stealing the Husband
Ye Lu was still in shock and confusion, almost getting slapped by her in the unguarded moment. At the critical time, the smoking man swiftly turned around, his strong hand firmly grasping Mei’s wrist.
" She just mistook someone for someone else. Why must you get so agitated!" His voice was deep and alluring, like nightshade in the darkness, husky yet laced with an irresistible authority.
It made Mei shrink back instantly, subconsciously nodding in submission.
Yet Ye Lu was stunned, under the hazy moonlight and the faint glow from the house, illuminating the man’s clear-cut but utterly unfamiliar face, and that voice hoarse to the point it was completely different from Third Young Master Jun’s enchantingly seductive tone.
It bewildered Ye Lu entirely, staring lost and forlorn at the strange man.
How could this be, neither his appearance nor his voice bore the slightest resemblance.
She had recognized the wrong person.
It wasn’t Jun Huang, it wasn’t him.
But why, that silhouette from before was so similar, so much that a single glance from her made her certain it was him.
So similar that when she hugged him, she felt the familiar warmth and intimacy, just like the countless times before.
But upon turning around, the towering hope became disappointment.
Ye Lu’s face took on a sorrowful pallor, her eyes still stuck on the man, unable to look away.
His indifferent gaze swept over her and didn’t linger before he looked towards Mei, quietly inquiring about her matters with the guests.
Mei’s eyes lit up, finally shifting her hostile gaze from Ye Lu, intimately looping her arm through the man’s, leaning on his shoulder with a charming pout, her bean-spilling manner speaking volumes of her so-called hardships, rubbing against the man’s chest in a coy request for pity.
She looked up at the man, her pretty eyes brimming with adoration and love, her crisp and beautiful voice filled with joy as she clung tightly to her husband’s hand, displaying her possessiveness.
And with her behavior, she was strongly projecting a kind of intimidation towards Ye Lu, showing off her affection.
Ye Lu naturally understood her exaggerated postures, and the loudness of her voice was probably all for Ye Lu’s benefit. Ye Lu forced a bitter smile, not understanding what this woman was cautious about; she had simply mistaken someone and didn’t actually intend to steal her husband, did she?
What was she afraid of? Ye Lu herself was uninterested in any man.
"What are you still looking at?" Mei, clutching the man’s hand, glared at Ye Lu, "Don’t think just because you were brought by Aunt Li, that I have to be nice to you. If you make me angry, I’ll call the patrol team to catch you, and you won’t be able to handle the consequences."
The last sentence was an absolute show of hostility and veiled jealousy, a thick threat.
Ye Lu’s heart clenched.
This is Sudian territory, unlike any other place in the world, there is no law here, the people are the law, and pointing a gun at her would elicit no sympathy.
She was here to find someone. If she offended people, being kicked out was the least of concerns. If she aroused suspicion or even hostility, that would be a serious issue. Hence, when it was time to swallow her pride, she could do it.
"I’m sorry, I was just anxiously looking for my husband and mistook someone else for him," she said in a low, humble tone.
Mei’s eyebrows flickered with arrogance, scoffing a few times, "Looking for a husband is looking for a husband, don’t fail to find him and start thinking of someone else’s husband as your own."
Ye Lu bit back her response, saying nothing and returned to the house.
But after this episode, when Ye Lu returned to the house, her mood was even more dampened.
Ling Kong, seeing her wilted expression and guessing that she had no interest in the villagers’ conversations, took a book from the shelf in the house and gave it to her to read.
