Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 854: A Fleeting Guilty Conscience
Morgan Quinn looked at Erin Yates, who could sleep soundly in such an environment, unsure whether to say she has a big heart or she’s just too tired.
Observing her sleeping face, he thought even the smoky makeup couldn’t hide her sweet looks.
When she’s not speaking harshly, she seems like quite a lovable girl.
But Morgan couldn’t help feeling intimidated at the thought of that solid over-the-shoulder throw.
Feeling idle, he reached into Erin Yates’ jacket for cigarettes and started smoking by the window.
Halfway through the cigarette, he suddenly heard strange screams from the next room, accompanied by moans.
Morgan furrowed his brows upon hearing this and immediately closed the window.
With nothing else to do, he sat by the bed and leaned against it, eventually falling asleep.
At around four in the morning, Erin Yates woke up and saw Morgan Quinn sleeping on the floor, thinking he seemed quite well-behaved.
So when she left, she paid a substantial tip and told Ms. Reid’s people: "Let him rest well during the day; I’ve specified him for the night. Hold the spot for me and don’t let him go to serve others, lest he lacks energy at night."
Looking at that tip, the staff nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Just like when she arrived, Erin Yates was led out through the little iron door unnoticed, then rode in a van with windows covered in black fabric, getting off at a bus stop near a crossroads.
This place seemed to be their pickup point to avoid exposing the nightclub’s location, with such a specific pickup method.
Even frequent visitors to the nightclub couldn’t pinpoint its exact location.
Based on the van’s travel time of only five or six minutes, the nightclub couldn’t be far from this bus stop.
The nightclub, nestled against the mountains, is in a remote area; from this crossroads, it shouldn’t be hard to pinpoint its general location.
After walking a distance, Erin Yates called someone to pick her up.
Upon returning to the police station, she immediately convened a meeting, explaining the situation she learned about.
Even though it’s identifiable as an erotic venue needing remediation, the main concern is the missing Old Snake.
At dawn, Seraphina Vaughn learned that the road was clear.
But now Faye Xavier and Luc are stuck in a quagmire, naturally unable to abandon them.
When Audrey Sutton was having breakfast with Shane Warner, Shane received a call from Franklin Sutton.
As soon as the phone rang, both Shane and Audrey tensed up.
Audrey’s inexplicable unease made her a bit paranoid,
whereas Shane was instructed by Franklin not to let Audrey know about his matters there for the time being.
Thus, upon seeing the caller ID, Shane immediately reached for the phone and deliberately walked to the restaurant window to answer the call.
Audrey watched Shane’s actions with a pondering look, though when considered separately, they didn’t seem out of the ordinary.
However, compared to his usual behavior, where he’d answer both personal and work calls openly in front of her...
She also noticed a fleeting sense of guilt in Shane’s eyes.
Though it was just for a brief moment, Audrey indeed caught it.
Shane’s unusual behaviors added to Audrey’s mounting unease.
Franklin Sutton explained to Shane Warner about Faye Xavier and Morgan Quinn’s current situation over the call; they’ve been found but rescuing them might take more time.
Shane felt they brought this upon themselves, yet having been close friends for years, he naturally hoped they’d return safe and sound.
After Shane hung up and walked back, Audrey merely kept her head down and drank her porridge without asking anything.
Shane noticed Audrey’s mood and explained: "It was from the police about Faye and them. It’s tricky to rescue them, might need more time."
Audrey responded with an "Oh," partially doubting the validity.
No matter who called, she couldn’t find an explanation for why Shane deliberately avoided her to take the call, and what concerned her was the fleeting guilty look.
She didn’t ask further, and after breakfast, stayed with Anna.
To others, she seemed no different from usual; however, Shane, being involved, clearly sensed that his wife seemed to be distancing herself.
Anna can now walk on her own while holding onto things but still walks unsteadily.
Audrey Sutton worried about the child falling, so she stayed close behind Anna.
Shane Warner snuggled up to Audrey, saying, "They’re playing cards, why aren’t you joining?"
Audrey turned away, shaking her head, "Don’t want to play."
Shane gently held her hand, asking, "What’s wrong? Feeling unwell? You seem exhausted."
"No."
Anna, now leaning against the coffee table, holding a toy car, turned around, holding Shane’s leg, waving the toy, and calling, "mamama."
Shane bent down and picked Anna up in his arms, saying, "Always calling Mommy, when will you say Daddy?"
Audrey, not in the mood for jokes, wiped Anna’s mouth with a tissue.
"Audrey, we’re planning to go to the supermarket on the first floor; do you want to come?" Laura Yates cradled Clary, standing with Vanessa, calling Audrey Sutton.
Audrey, wanting to avoid seeing Shane, reached out to hold Anna and said: "Let’s go, Mommy will take you to buy some treats."
Shane naturally followed, and although Audrey wasn’t showing much of a belly yet, he worriedly said: "Let me hold her, don’t get kicked."
Audrey held Anna, slightly sidestepping Shane’s hand, saying: "Just heading downstairs, you stay; the bottles in the room need washing."
"Then put her down and let her walk; come back after buying, don’t wander."
Audrey responded with an "Mm," holding Anna and walking towards Laura Yates.
Shane watched them enter the elevator, furrowing his brow, pondering what was wrong with Audrey.
Was it because of pregnancy causing her mood to be off?
The supermarket is on the hotel’s first floor, selling mostly daily items and snacks, priced higher than in regular markets.
But since they can’t go anywhere being stuck in the hotel, browsing here is a nice change.
After careful selection, they bought some snacks that children love, and as soon as they left the supermarket, they stepped into the hotel lobby.
Upon exiting, Audrey spotted a woman in a denim jacket at the front desk, appearing to check in or inquire something from the staff.
From this angle, only the woman’s profile was visible; despite a notable difference in style, Audrey immediately linked it to the woman in the photo from yesterday.
