Jane Sampson restrained the smile at the corner of her mouth without exposing Kendal Smith, guessing that the Smith Family probably claimed he had left the Capital Province overnight, which might be why Kendal Smith had come to the studio to hide from people after leaving the Smith home last night.

Jane Sampson only sat down in the empty seat after James Carter stood up again with the support of his cane and walked back in.

James Carter naturally took his seat between Jane Sampson and Kendal Smith, and asked with interest, "Missed by a whisker? Is there some saga here worth spilling?"

"I’ve heard rumors in the internet realm before that you and Jane Sampson are close, but I didn’t think it was true." Kendal Smith rubbed his forehead, "You really give me a headache."

As for the latter part, who exactly gave Kendal Smith a headache, whether it was James Carter or Jane Sampson, probably only Kendal Smith knew himself.

"It’s true that Jane Sampson and I are very good friends," James Carter agreed with Kendal Smith’s statement, "However, right now I’m more curious about the relationship between you two, that ’missed by a whisker,’ that so-called story."

Jane Sampson didn’t say a word; it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to do so.

Kendal Smith glanced at Jane Sampson, thought about Julie Sampton’s attitude towards Jane last night, and reckoned their sisterly relationship was just for show. Otherwise, seeing him sitting here, Jane Sampson would have berated him as a scumbag by now.

So, Kendal Smith gingerly touched his nose and straightforwardly said, "Our Old Sir has decided to sell me off to the Sampton Family to repay the favor Old Sir Sampton did for our family in the past. Last night our two clans had a formal meeting, but after meeting, I was dead set against falling into the Sampton’s pit. After some thought, Old Sir and my parents seemed to have had a twinge of conscience and agreed."

"So that’s what happened." James Carter smiled, "That truly is fate, no wonder you had such a big reaction upon seeing Jane Sampson just now."

"Hey." Kendal Smith called out to Jane Sampson, "Do you know what Old Sir and my parents said when I got home?"

Jane Sampson shook her head and casually asked, "What did they say?"

That was exactly what Kendal Smith had been waiting for. Hearing Jane Sampson ask, he poured her a cup of tea and complimented her, "You’re such a conversationalist, why didn’t I realize you had this talent last night?"

The corners of Jane Sampson’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly. Last night she didn’t hear him let out a fart, oh, utter a word; had it not been for today, she wouldn’t have known Kendal Smith could be such a talkative person.

"After I got home, Old Sir said that Julie Sampton is superficial and a bit clueless with her actions, and he wasn’t too pleased." Kendal Smith said this much, then suddenly stared at Jane Sampson with an inexplicable smile, "They said it would have been better if the person the Smith Family was tied to was you instead, saying you’re a bit more likable. So, why don’t you consider it?"

"Kendal, Jane Sampson is married," James Carter said with a slightly serious tone.

"I know." Kendal Smith nodded, "I heard about it while eating last night, I was just joking with Jane Sampson just now."

James Carter picked up his cane and swung it at Kendal Smith, a bit angrily, "That kind of joke is very rude."

"Hey, hey, hey!" Kendal Smith, still holding the teacup, was caught off-guard by James Carter’s swing, spilling the water straight out, and by some misfortune, it poured right onto James Carter’s foot.

Kendal Smith stared at James Carter’s drenched white socks for a moment, then crawled back two steps, "This is on you, it wasn’t intentional, don’t blame me."
