CEO's Reborn Wife
Chapter 1368 - 1376: In Your Purse
She must have drunk too much, so after getting into the car, Jane Sampson didn’t create a fuss. Instead, she sat quietly but her eyes were fixated on James Black the whole time.
"If you feel uncomfortable, just lie down and sleep for a while," James Black suggested to Jane Sampson while waiting for the traffic light, even reaching out to pat her on the head.
What he was actually more worried about was how Jane Sampson’s body would handle being in the cold air, sitting on the car top, after having had so much to drink.
"I’m not drunk," Jane Sampson muttered discontentedly and slapped the back of James Black’s hand with a smack.
James Black chuckled.
Feisty, and claiming she’s not drunk.
"I’m really not drunk. Have you ever seen a drunkard who knows to wait for you to drive them home?" Jane Sampson pouted a little as she defended herself unhappily, "I’m not drunk, so I know not to drive after drinking."
James Black thought that perhaps she was indeed not drunk, but she was definitely not far from it.
Her words just now, along with her expression, seemed to be seeking his praise.
Before the green light was on, James Black raised his hand and tapped her forehead, then quickly started the car and continued driving forward.
With her hands cradling her tapped forehead, Jane Sampson hummed unhappily twice.
It was then that James Black asked, "Weren’t you going to Julie Sampton’s engagement banquet? How did you end up drinking alone by the riverside? Did she upset you?"
"I won’t tell you," Jane Sampson huffed like a petulant child, lowering her hands from her forehead and turning her head away, no longer staring at James Black.
James Black didn’t pursue the question further; if she didn’t say anything, he naturally had his own ways of finding out.
After the car was parked in the garage, Jane Sampson was carried out by James Black because she had been drinking and was slow to react, even when unfastening her seatbelt.
Back at home, Jane Sampson kicked off her shoes and sprawled on the sofa like a corpse, sighing contentedly, "There’s no place like home."
James Black went into the kitchen to make her some honey water and placed it in front of her, then sat down by her feet. Just as he was about to speak, Jane Sampson suddenly sat up, then lunged at him, her face crashing into his embrace.
The sudden move startled James Black, but she herself burst into giggles, thoroughly amused.
"Were you particularly anxious about your little darling card?" Jane Sampson teased, her fingers tugging at James Black’s sleeve.
James Black curved the corner of his mouth, "It’s in your purse."
Without a doubt, if it wasn’t hidden at home, she surely took it with her.
"How did you know?" Jane Sampson pouted, unhappy, "It’s not fun at all."
As she spoke, Jane Sampson reached into her purse and hooked out the card she had stashed in a book, handing it over to James Black, "See, I’ve taken good care of it for you, kept it safe and sound."
Watching as James Black immediately took the card and went straight to the study, Jane Sampson followed him off the sofa and stood at the doorway of the study watching how James Black placed the card. When he turned to leave, she stretched out her hand to stop him at the door, looking up at him with longing eyes, yet not saying a word.
James Black showed no impatience at all, standing there with his hands in his pockets, letting her look at him that way.
In the end, perhaps her gaze was too pitiful, or her little face looked so woefully expectant, it softened his heart. James Black raised his hand and gently rubbed her head, "Whatever you want to say, just say it."
