Chapter 372: How Dare You!

For a while, thick and heavy silence reigned in the living room.

The three mercenaries glanced at each other in alarm before their gazes simultaneously landed on Mu Yuze who looked quite miserable with his mussed up hair, bloodshot furious eyes, bruised skin and blood that trickled down from his nose, smearing onto half of his face messily.

Who was this boy? The first thing XIU did was not to ask for who they were or who had sent them, but to threaten them over the boy’s safety? Well, it did not actually matter what kind of identity the boy held. The most important thing was that they had finally discovered XIU’s weak spot, and they were going to use it to achieve their goal.

The three men merely paused for a second following that threat, yet it was already more than enough for He Juan to fill in his blanks.

"You touched him," it was not a question. A low growl was forming on the base of his throat and then a deafening thud suddenly echoed followed by a sharp blare of horn as if he had slammed his fist on the wheel. "How dare you!!"

It was not only the mercenaries who were taken aback, but Mu Yuze too – perhaps even more than all of them combined. He Juan’s voice had sunk so low, so dark and his fury so palpable it was as if he could feel the low pressure emanating from the phone to fill the room they were in now.

Mu Yuze’s breathing slowed, his heart racing a hundred miles per second. There were a few rare times in the past when he felt like he could catch a flicker of irritation in the man’s eyes, but none of them was comparable to now. Not even the tip of it. Mu Yuze could tell that He Juan was serious with the threat. He had meant every word when he said that he was going to make these men regret, and exactly because of that reason that Mu Yuze found it hard to believe what he was hearing right now.

Was this still the same He Juan he knew...?

The first to snap back to his senses was the Gun Holder. He let out a dry chuckle to mask the strange fluster in his heart. Of course, he had heard of ’XIU’ and his reputation as the devil in the underworld, but for him who had hailed from a foreign military force and undergone a strict training, XIU was no different than any thug on the streets. He had even thought it was XIU who had spread the rumors to increase his own prestige and reputation. But now that he was talking with the man... it seemed like he had to take things more seriously.

"Of course, if you want the child safe and sound, you’d better do as we say. Or else..."

He Juan barked out another laugh, sharp and cold, even tinged with a hint of manic mirth. "The person who dares to threaten me in the underworld is still not born yet, so let me guess... mercenary group? How many of you are there? Two? Three?"

Alarmed, the men glanced at each other again. Injured Man gave a signal, urging the Gun Holder to hasten up. If they took any longer, it was not impossible for XIU to track them down at this instant!

Nodding, Gun Holder said to the phone, "That’s all for now. We will contact you again soon, XIU. So please wait patiently until then. Remember, the child’s life is on the line." He raised his head to meet Mu Yuze’s eyes, causing the latter’s heart to skip a beat. "Here," he brought the phone closer with a threatening look in his eyes. "Say something, boy."

The hand clamping his mouth shut finally loosened. Even then, Mu Yuze pressed his lips into thin lines and was determined not to make a sound. If they thought they could use him to make He Juan do their bidding, then they were severely wrong. He refused to be used as a tool to threaten He Juan!

Alas, his disobedience only served to fuel Injured Man’s displeasure, fanning the flame of grudge he had been keeping in mind since the boy threw the vase to his head. Enraged, he swung his hand and delivered a hard slap that had Mu Yuze’s head slanted to the side and his ears ringing, blood filling his mouth. "Speak!"

Still, Mu Yuze gritted his teeth and refused to obey. His bloodshot eyes glared at the man akin to a wild cub that did not fear death.

Injured Man wanted to slap him again, but just as he raised his hand, Gun Holder remarked, "Enough," he looked at the phone in his hand. "XIU has hung up. Let’s go."

Mu Yuze’s eyes widened subtly when he heard that. No... he couldn’t let these people take him away! He could not allow himself to become He Juan’s weakness! His eyes landed on the man in front of him – or to be exact, the gun in his hand. It was the biggest threat to him at the moment. If only he could snatch it away... even if he had not used a gun before, he was certain that he could use it to push them back and seize the advantage to slip away! No matter what, he couldn’t bring harm to He Juan!

Eyes hardened in determination, Mu Yuze used the split second when the man behind him lowered his guard, thinking that the boy had already resigned to his fate, to grab the arm around his neck and bite it hard!

"Ah!" Shocked by the sudden pinch of pain, the man subconsciously loosened his hold.

Now! Mu Yuze landed unsteadily on his feet and pounced toward the Gun Holder at once, his gaze zeroed in on the gun with single-minded attention.

He was quick, but unfortunately, someone else was even quicker than him.

Having seen the light in Mu Yuze’s eyes, Injured Man could tell that the boy had not given up yet and when he saw the boy make a move, he immediately lunged forward and grabbed him by the hair!

Mu Yuze cried out, more of frustration than pain. Just a little bit more... he had almost reached the gun! Alas, he was destined to never make it, for how could a malnourished fifteen years old boy win against three trained mercenaries?

"I knew that you would never learn unless I teach you a lesson..." Injured Man grinned sharply as he yanked on Mu Yuze’s hair harder, forcing him to tilt his head to the back. A burst of pain prickled his scalp and he grimaced. Mu Yuze thought that he ought to thank his bastard father for beating him up for years because this pain was nowhere near the threshold he could endure.

Not wanting to give the other man the satisfaction of seeing him in pain, he spat out the blood in his mouth. "...Fuck you!"

"Son of a bitch—" Furious, the man tightened his grip on Mu Yuze’s hair to slam his head on the wall, but at that moment, a small shadow dashed in through the open door and headed straight to the man, scratching him on the face.

Caught off guard, Injured Man staggered backward and let go of his grip, causing Mu Yuze to fall to the ground with his breathing uneven. He took no notice of his dizziness and raised his head sharply, his pupils dilating when he caught sight of the familiar orange tabby cat with all her fur puffed out and teeth pulled back, ready to fight.

"Kitty!"
