Chapter 356: Black Dragon

After planning an ambush on thirty six people that day and killing more than half of them, He Juan totally lost track of time when he ’interrogated’ the other half in Xuanlong’s underground chamber to find out who had sent these men for his life.

When he finally got a list of people and emerged from that hellhole, he discovered that almost two days had already passed.

"It’s already so long?" he asked in a light tone, the thick scent of blood and aggression still oozing from every pore of his body.

His upper body was currently bare, displaying the perfectly sculptured chest and solid pecs glistening with sweat, grime and blood.

He despised it when his white shirt was stained. He couldn’t possibly bring it to the laundry service, nor could he ask his men to clean it for him. As such, he would always hand wash the shirt himself and damn, it took monstrous effort on his part to make the shirt pristine white again! Moreover, how was he supposed to do it now when he had a little naïve and gullible bunny as a roommate? Thus, it was better not to dirty his shirt. Either way, those people were not worth him putting such a great effort.

At a time like this, no one dared to come close to him for fear that they would accidentally provoke him and be killed as a result. Instead, they would send Chen Youzhi – the safest and most reliable choice – to relay any urgent news for him.

"Yes," Chen Youzhi offered a warm wet cloth with both hands, and He Juan accepted it to wipe the blood that had splattered on his face and body. "Please do not worry, Boss. I have already informed Mu Yuze that you are going on business trips for a few days." He chose to report it as soon as possible because he knew that He Juan would definitely worry about the child under his wings.

He Juan handed the cloth – that had turned pink from the original white – back to Chen Youzhi and hummed in approval, a thin yet emotionless smile on the corner of his lips. "Thank you. I know I can always rely on you."

Chen Youzhi dipped his head in acknowledgement and when he raised his head again, He Juan was already walking down the corridor.

The dim light overhead cast a long shadow over the floor and wall behind him, swaying and dancing with every step he took. The moan and wail of agony from the half-dead captives was still echoing in the air, and the more Chen Youzhi stared at He Juan’s shadow, the more it looked like a twisted reflection of those tormented souls.

He gave an involuntary shudder and shifted his gaze toward the huge tattoo on He Juan’s back instead. It was a tattoo that only Boss Xuan’s most trusted subordinates could have. Throughout the entire organization, only two people obtained the right to ink this black dragon on their body as a sign of their absolute and unwavering royalty – XIU and the Master Manipulator.

It was not the first time Chen Youzhi had seen the tattoo, yet the shock he received was no less than the first time he saw it.

The tattoo covered almost the entirety of He Juan’s back. The black dragon’s long, lithe and impressive body was coiled around a katana in a protective manner. Its scales were intricately detailed and appeared to be glistening as the dim light fell on them. Its pupils shone in a cold gleam, and its sharp, pointed teeth were bared in a menacing snarl as though ready to defend its treasure at any cost. The black dragon’s wings spanned out to either of He Juan’s back and its mercilessly sharp claws seemed to be digging into his flesh as if to anchor the creature in place.

This was a tattoo that belonged only to the protector alone.

Chen Youzhi had heard somewhere that the ink was made out of a unique material. Once it entered the skin, then it couldn’t be erased anymore even with the current laser technology.

The longer he stared at it, the more he felt like the black dragon was going to come to life at any moment and snap his neck into two. He shivered again and hastily dropped his gaze to the floor, and it was not until he heard the sound of door opening and closing did he finally let himself relax, cold sweat pouring out of his skin.

Compared to others, he did not cower in fear and tremble helplessly in front of He Juan, but it did not mean that he was not a nervous wreck!

He Juan had no idea what kind of terror he was instilling in his most reliable man’s mind. The first thing he did after returning to his office was to take a long, hot shower to wash away the disgusting stench of blood that lingered on his skin.

After that, he had practically returned to normal again, if not for the thick exhaustion in his eyes and the grimness brought forth by cruel torture which nothing – and no one – could absolve.

He sat down on the swivel chair and wrote down the list of names he had obtained from the captives. Ninety nine percent of them were his usual enemies who wanted to seize the chance to strike him down once and for all, while the last one was...

Dai Zhi. If He Juan did not remember wrongly, he was the member of National Congress Party as well as the main supporter of Fang Yazhu, one of the culprits involved in Liang Yuanjun’s accident.

He Juan’s lips curved into a bloodthirsty smile. Now this was interesting. He had no doubt that Dai Zhi was moving on Fang Yazhu’s order, but the main question here was – where did Fang Yazhu get information about him from? Had he collaborated with He Juan’s enemies in the underworld or... was it thanks to the presence of a mole by He Juan’s side? Or both?

He Juan leaned back on the chair and barked out a chilling laugh. Fang Yazhu ah, Fang Yazhu... it seemed like he would not learn his lesson unless He Juan paid him a visit?

Standing up, He Juan grabbed his jacket and walked briskly to the door. He pulled it open to find a startled Chen Youzhi.

"B–Boss..." he took back his hand that was already posed for knocking.

"What’s wrong?"

"No, this..." Chen Youzhi showed his phone to He Juan, the screen still showing the latest call that had come in an hour ago from Mu Yuze. "He said that he couldn’t get through to your phone, so he called mine because he’s worried about how you are doing. I think what he wants to know most is when you will be back, Boss." He observed He Juan’s expression carefully, asking, "Will you be going home now?"

The glacier in He Juan’s eyes wavered once he saw Mu Yuze’s name on the screen. However, it remained only for a split second before they hardened again when he recalled what he had to do. "No," he shook his head. Where had he put his phone again? It must have been laying dead and out of battery somewhere. He would need to search for it when he got back later and gave Mu Yuze a call. Later. After he was done with his business here. "Tell him that I will need a few more days."

Chen Youzhi nodded and politely stepped aside to let him pass. He did not ask where He Juan was going, nor did He Juan have any intention of letting him know.
