Captured By The Cold Detective (BL) - Chapter 344: Rising Dark Horse
For the next month ensuing the meeting, news of arson happening in multiple hotels and restaurants across the country increased significantly.
Though in one glance nothing looked suspicious about it, if one were to investigate further, they would discover that those buildings belonged to some members of the Chinese Communist Party, especially the ones who were actively running a campaign for prime minister election. đđŁđđČđ°đđđ§đ đ§đđ.đđđș
Of course, any rumors about it were suppressed almost immediately to prevent scandals from breaking out, with the election being less than six months away.
Only those politicians â whose property was burned â were aware of the truth of the matter. This was not an ordinary arson that portrayed the citizensâ dissatisfaction with the system, but a vicious act targeted toward them. And the victims were none other than those involved in the incident a month ago when Liang Yuanjun had to leave her own campaign due to âunforeseen circumstancesâ.
Alas, even though they knew this was a retaliation, there was nothing they could do about it.
Why?
Because on the very same day of the arson, every single one of them received a mysterious package with no return address. The content of the package did not differ by much, most of them were proof pertaining to the money laundering or secret stash funds they had gathered throughout years. Those who saw it instantly paled and went weak on the knees, moreover when they read the greeting card that came with it.
[I wonât compensate you because youâre richer than me. In exchange, let me offer you this gift. I hope you like it :)
â XIU]
That name was akin to lightning bolt in the middle of summer day. XIU! The sender of these mysterious packages was XIU â the very same person who had been hailed as the uncrowned hero of justice by the citizens as well as the police and governmentâs public enemy!
What did this âcourteousâ gesture mean? Since when did XIU start to involve himself in politics and more importantly... he was even standing on Liang Yuanjunâs side?! How?!
Even though on the surface, the repeated arsons did not create any sensation whatsoever, small ripples had started to form under the current. The rumors that XIU, who was allegedly a fearsome devil, started to dip his claws in politics spread rapidly like wildfire to the point where it had become an open secret among the partyâs members.
Just like that, Liang Yuanjun slowly but steadily regained her momentum. Like a fox riding on a tigerâs back, she became bolder and more passionate in running her campaigns for empowering omegaâs status and freedom in the society. Not one day passed without her face making it to the headline news. Her supporters, who had been afraid to make their voices known at first, started to show up one after another to echo her voice.
She became unstoppable, a rising dark horse who was praised by the citizens. Not only because of her controversial campaigns, but also the fact that she was the first and only omega who dared to openly fight against the twisted norm.
On the other hand, her enemies could only watch by the sidelines with hungry eyes full of malice...

"To be completely honest with you, XIU, I have a bad feeling about this," Jia Molei stated out of nowhere after watching yet another news report about the success of Liang Yuanjunâs campaign.
Since that brief moment of weakness when Jia Molei talked about his deceased grandfather, their relationship seemed to have taken a progressive leap. Now He Juan did not visit the clinic out of mere obligation to treat his wounds. Sometimes, when he got off work early and Mu Yuze was still at school, he would drop by just to lounge in the doctorâs office to pass the time.
Of course, Jia Molei raised his protest, very loudly at that because what the fuck, could He Juan just make himself scarce and stop terrorizing him with his sudden visit every fucking time?!
Alas, his protest always fell on deaf ears and soon, Jia Molei became tired of hurling out futile curses. The doctor quickly became accustomed to his presence to the point where he would get worried if He Juan was arriving late by more than twenty minutes.
(But of course, his concern came in the form of a scowling face, exaggerated rolls of eyes and disdainful gazes, especially when He Juan deliberately teased him about it.)
He Juan came to know that the doctor was hiding quite a contrasting nature under his crude façade. He, for the lack of words to describe, turned out to be a huge softie.
He always cared for each and every patient of his, making sure to take notes of their discomfort and trying hard to assuage them. For example, when a patient complained about how they couldnât sleep due to the itchiness on their wounds, he would stay in their room, keeping watch while trying to distract them by doing a marathon movie all night long. Another example, He Juan had caught him staring at his computer screen with an extremely solemn and serious look quite a few times, but when he tried to find out what caused Jia Molei to look as if he was attending his catâs funeral, he found that the doctor was only watching recipe videos. Not only that, He Juan also found a folder in his computer filled with dramas and soap operas which aunties liked to watch during their afternoon free time.
Since then, He Juan learned not to take the manâs curses at face value â well, not that he cared too much about it to begin with.
"Hmm?" He Juan dragged his gaze off the television and turned to find the doctor frowning deep enough to form a canyon between his brows. He arched a perfect brow, amused. "Whatâs wrong, Doctor Jia? Isnât this the best outcome? She can finally achieve her goals after ten long years, so what are you complaining about?"
Jia Molei clicked his tongue in frustration, "I am not talking her, for fuckâs sake! By doing this, you are practically pulling all aggro to you! Arenât you afraid of their retaliation, huh? Let me tell you, XIU. Those people... they are all wily old foxes who have mingled in this mire even before youâre born. They will not back down just because you have black materials over them! They have 1001 ways to make you disappear from the surface of Earth, donât you get it?!"
He Juan scoffed, not taking his words seriously at all. "Youâre talking as if they can even find me, Doctor Jia."
"Iâm warning you," Jia Molei glowered at him. "Donât fucking underestimate them, XIU."
"Okay, okay, I wonât," he hurriedly said just to appease the doctorâs anger. "I will be extra careful! I wonât let my guard down even one bit!"
He had learned early on that fear was the best way to manipulate someone and thus, he had especially gone out of his way to secure evidence that could drag those people to their downfall. On the other hand, they knew nothing about him at all â not his appearance, his age, his address or even his identity. No matter from which angle he saw it, victory was already in the bag. So what made Jia Molei think that they would be able to touch him?
Jia Molei fumed, knowing fully that He Juan was only trying to humor him. "You fuckerâ"
"Wait a minute," He Juan said upon feeling his phone vibrating in his pocket. He waved it at Jia Molei to show that he was not making an excuse to get out of this conversation, then stood up and made his way outside the office to pick up the call. "Hello, Chenâer? Whatâs up?"
When he heard what Chen Youzhi said, the easy smile that curled on the corner of his lips quickly faded away to be replaced with a puzzled frown. "What did you say? Mu Yuzeâs school?"
