Captured By The Cold Detective (BL) - Chapter 223: XIU Is Back?
When Ku Jin received this message, he had long left Yuyang City and was currently taking a break on the outskirts of Jingnan Province, the place where Xuanlong was first founded and also where the main headquarters used to be.
Alas, right now that piece of land had already changed owners. A construction site stood in its place and from the banner that hung on the front gate, it looked like this area was going to be transformed into a seven-stories luxurious mall.
This was also the place where Cui Yan had been hiding.
The saying that ’the most dangerous place is also the safest’ might apply to another occasion, but not this time. Especially not toward someone whose brain was wired differently like Ku Jin. He did not even need his pinky toe to think that this guy must have taken this construction site as the most suitable place to hide. And lo and behold, Ku Jin really found him!
Staring at the reply He Juan had sent him, the smile on his face became wider. But the dark displeasure in his eyes told otherwise. "Ckckck... such a touching relationship. One is always worried about the other. It really makes me feel... jealous. What do you think?" He exerted strength on the foot that was stepping on Cui Yan’s body, eliciting a pig-like shriek from the middle aged man.
"D–Don’t!" Cui Yan grasped onto Ku Jin’s ankle, desperately trying to push him away to no avail. Tears gathered on the corner of his eyes, and his face swelled into a bruise from where Ku Jin had KO-ed him with one punch. "Please... have mercy! It’s my fault! I won’t run away anymore!"
"Have mercy?" Ku Jin tilted his head from the phone screen to peer down at the wretched man under his feet, his smile was bright and dazzling. "How weird. This is the first time someone has said something like that to me..."
Looking into those dark bottomless eyes, Cui Yan was so afraid that he was trembling like a sieve, his lips turning blue. Dirt clung to his disheveled clothes and stuck to his exposed sweaty skin. He made such a miserable image that people who knew him as ’Master Cui’ would definitely be shocked out of their wits once they saw this. However, Cui Yan couldn’t care less about his reputation right now. He did not even dare to make a squeak for fear of offending this obnoxious man further.
Ku Jin soon grew displeased with his silence. "Why don’t you ask me the reason why?"
Cui Yan forced his trembling lips to part. "W–W–Why?"
"I don’t know either," Ku Jin shrugged. "Perhaps they all died before they could even beg for mercy?"
Cui Yan: "..." It was better if he’d never ask!
"Please..." he let out a whimper. He no longer tried to push Ku Jin’s feet away, but hugged it instead, wailing. "It’s my fault! I admit it now! But... But you never told me that the police would come to my place! See, I–I have become a fugitive now. My life is basically ruined! Aren’t we even already?!"
Ku Jin hushed him softly and said with his two thumbs moving across the screen, "Don’t be noisy, I have a message to reply to." After that, he pocketed the phone and turned all of his attention to Cui Yan. "Where are we again? Ah, so you’re saying that... it’s my fault that you’re chased by the police and your beautiful life is ruined?"
Cui Yan stared at him with terror in his eyes. The trembles on his body intensified. He had a hunch – a very strong hunch – that if he were to say yes, something terrifying would befall him right here and now! However, he was also unwilling to swallow his grievance just like that. He had been working so hard to build his reputation as a feng shui master. It took him years to get his first big client and now... everything went down the drain just because Ku Jin told – threatened – him to keep one body!
"But..." he gritted out through the trembles on his lips. Alas, his protest came out as soft as a mosquito buzz. "I really didn’t expect the police would knock on my door... you told me that I would... that I would be safe..."
Ku Jin blinked. "So it’s my fault?"
Cui Yan pressed his lips tight. This time, he did not dare to say anything more. Alas, the resentment and unwillingness in his face did not go unnoticed by the other person.
Ku Jin smiled. Without any warning, he suddenly took his feet off Cui Yan’s body, prompting a surprised look from the latter. Even then, Cui Yan did not dare to get up and remain lying on the dirty cement floor, waiting for the verdict Ku Jin was going to bestow upon him. Either way, he already knew that he would not be able to escape once this man found him...
"Such a pity..." Ku Jin started to say. "I actually like you very much. You’re very brilliant and you execute my orders so well. But..." he crouched down and stared down at Cui Yan. "Do you know where you have gone wrong?"
Cui Yan’s pupils shook. "W–Where?"
Ku Jin leisurely dropped a bomb on him. "It’s because you have offended XIU. Do you think I’m the one who called the police on you? Ckckck... what’s the use of that? Isn’t it way more beneficial for me if that body is never found? Look at me," he patted his cheek with a miserable look. "I am forced to change my identity again."
"XIU...?" Cui Yan mumbled, his gaze unfocused as if he had lost his soul. "He... He’s back? XIU is back?"
Ku Jin chuckled. "Or else? Do you think there’s anyone else who is capable of doing something like this?"
Cui Yan sucked in a breath. What Ku Jin said made perfect sense. The discovery of the corpse meant that the police were one step closer to him, so there was no reason for him to do something like that... right? The more he thought about it, the more he felt like it was correct. However, he had forgotten to take into account that it was Ku Jin who had ordered him to keep the corpse in a preserved state in the first place.
"XIU... XIU is back..." he mumbled again and again, his head buzzing. If... If the one he offended was really XIU, then it was over... It was really over for him! He desperately rolled over and grabbed onto Ku Jin’s sleeves, pleading. "I... I never meant to offend him at all! If he really goes after me, I will be finished! W–What should I do?!"
"Don’t worry," Ku Jin grasped his hand and smiled brightly. "If you listen to me, then I will take you under my wings. You will definitely be safe from XIU’s wrath this way."
At his wit’s end, Cui Yan did not even need to think before he nodded with tears of gratitude in his eyes. "Yes... Yes, please... Please help me!"
