Captured By The Cold Detective (BL) - Chapter 222: Terrible First Impression
"What’s wrong, Hyung?" Kang Guanyu asked nervously once they were out of the house. He kept glancing back once in a while, looking so much like a child who was reluctant to leave his parent behind. "Why are you pulling me along? Hey, is it okay for us to leave Mr. He alone? His complexion doesn’t seem good..."
Tak Jung-Hwa offered him an exasperated glance. "Is that the thing you should be worrying about?"
"Then what?" Kang Guanyu was genuinely confused. "I don’t get it, Hyung. Please don’t speak in riddles, okay? Oh! Did you find something back in the house and unwilling to let Mr. He see it and hence, you’re asking me to come out with you?" Other than that, he could not think of any other possibility.
Tak Jung-Hwa was amused, helpless but mostly angry at how gullible this guy was. He abruptly halted in his tracks, forcing Kang Guanyu to brake as well. He sighed at Kang Guanyu’s puzzled look. "Is that really Mu Yuze’s Alpha? The one you said is very gentle, kind, thoughtful, warm, and just like your attractive big brother next door?"
Kang Guanyu spent a split second giving Tak Jung-Hwa a thumbs up for remembering his mindless rambles down to the last details. Then he became even more confused. He really did not get where Tak Jung-Hwa was going with this. "Of course. Unless Mr. He has a twin with the exact same personality, he is the person I was talking about."
"You..." At a loss of words, Tak Jung-Hwa reached out to flick his forehead. "Why are you such a fool?"
Kang Guanyu covered his forehead and cried out, aggrieved. "And why are you such a meanie?!"
Tak Jung-Hwa clicked his tongue and said in a jest, "Obviously, I am helping you to see better." There was something else he did not say though. This little flick on the forehead was also the price for not telling him that the ’Mr. He’ whom they had always been talking about turned out to be He Juan, the one whose name was written on case 510’s crime scene!
All this time, Kang Guanyu had always said Mr. He this, Mr. He that... how was he supposed to make the connection that Mr. He’s full name was He Juan all along?! Imagine how shocked he was when He Juan introduced himself for the first time!
Just which part of that person was gentle, kind, thoughtful and warm? Tak Jung-Hwa had always prided himself for being sharp and observational. As a superior Alpha, he was also gifted with a keener instinct that had saved his life countless times before. So far, Tak Jung-Hwa’s instinct has never failed him. And today, as soon as he landed his gaze on He Juan, the same instinct told him, ’This guy is dangerous.’
He could not seem to read He Juan at all. He looked innocuous and harmless at a glance, yet he carried with him an extremely imposing and aggressive aura tinged with the faint scent of blood. These two contrasts threw Tak Jung-Hwa out of the loop and he could not help but poke the man a bit. He deliberately asked accusatory questions in front of He Juan to see what kind of reaction he would have and oh boy... as soon as those grim silver eyes landed on him, all of the hair on Tak Jung-Hwa’s body stood on its end and his Alpha growled restlessly, warning him that he might get himself into some serious trouble if he kept testing the waters.
So far, there was only one person who could give Tak Jung-Hwa such a terrible first impression – XIU. And now, He Juan was added to the list.
So, was this the reason why Mu Yuze avoided him? Because of his Alpha? So did it mean that he knew something more about He Juan? About why his name appeared in the crime scene and why did the police decide to forgo this piece of clue in the end?
Huh. Interesting...
"What do you mean by helping me to see better?" Kang Guanyu huffed and puffed. "Excuse you, my vision is excellent!"
"Alright, alright. My bad, okay?" Tak Jung-Hwa let out a brief chuckle and gestured for him to continue walking. "Let’s go. We should return in time for the field officers to arrive."
***
Ten minutes was already enough for Tak Jung-Hwa and Kang Guanyu to view the surveillance footage at eight times the speed and make a copy of it. Ten minutes was also enough for He Juan to regain his composure after the three mysterious messages and pocketed the phone by the time the police arrived.
He Juan had a lot of questions to ask, for example, who the other person was and what kind of relationship they had seven years prior, who were the old acquaintances and Boss they were talking about, and... XIU. It was referring to him, right? It should be. It sounded kinda... familiar as if someone had also addressed him in this way as well. But unfortunately, He Juan just could not recall where he had heard it before.
How could this person send these messages at the exact time when He Juan was alone? Was there a hidden camera in Jia Molei’s house? And... had their movements always been monitored all along? He Juan’s back turned cold when this possibility popped up in his mind. He tried to recall what he had done since stepping into the house and was relieved that he had not acted in a way that might warrant suspicion. He was certain that the only person who could leave this phone here was the imposter who was seen together with Jia Molei. He should also be the one who had taken Jia Molei away. And lastly... his guess was right, they had indeed known each other before.
Oh God, never before had He Juan been so compelled to regain his lost memory. At least, he would not fumble around like a headless chicken as he was right now!
He Juan allowed the field officers to scour through the house. He stepped outside and bumped into Kang Guanyu who had just returned from the management office. As for Tak Jung-Hwa, he had gone inside the house to talk with the other officers.
"How is it?" he asked uneasily. "Have you discovered anything?
Kang Guanyu heaved out a long sigh. "It’s the same person, alright. He’s seen carrying your friend out, unconscious."
He Juan froze and extreme fear seized his heart, leaving him breathless. "...Unconscious?" he repeated, his voice shaky with dread.
"We didn’t spot any visible injuries though." Kang Guanyu hurried to explain. "It looks more like your friend has been knocked out. Don’t worry, Mr. He. At least, the car they were using is caught in the camera. The traffic police are investigating where they’re heading as we speak!"
Unfortunately, his words of comfort did nothing to reassure He Juan’s anxiety. The newfound phone felt like a burning iron inside his pocket, reminding him of the messages that were left for him to see. The messages he had not replied to yet. Earlier, He Juan was stumped with countless questions and had no idea where to start. Then the police arrived before he had the time to reply. But now, he knew what he should be asking.
After seeing Kang Guanyu walk into the house and confirming that no one was around, He Juan pulled out the phone and replied,
[Okay. But I need to confirm that Jia Molei is fine first.]
