Tak Jung-Hwa keenly sensed it when Nurse Chen went still once he mentioned Xuanlong.

Ha... bingo.

To be completely honest, he had no idea whether Nurse Chen was really a former member of Xuanlong. He had no concrete evidence to back up his claims nor did he have even the slightest clue about it. All he had was his natural instinct and years of rich experience of dealing with vicious criminals.

However, he had learned not to show the slightest hint of weakness during interrogation. Asking questions to a criminal was akin to fighting without weapons, not only would he have to suppress the other party in terms of wits and intelligence, he also had to maintain the upper hand in terms of psychological fortitude.

If you want to force the truth out of someone’s mouth, then you have to act as if you know everything.

As he had said to Kang Guanyu earlier, people who had blood on their hands would have a special aura to them and he could tell in a glance that Nurse Chen had killed. A lot. And the fact that he had washed his hands clean and lived an earnest life meant two things: either he chose not to go back, or he had no place to return to anymore.

Coincidentally right now, they were chasing after the crumbs Xuanlong had left behind, so Tak Jung-Hwa could not help but probe the water. Who could have guessed that he would really hit a jackpot?!

Tak Jung-Hwa’s heart sped up and his pupils dilated in excitement. Since Xuanlong’s destruction, almost all of its members – except for the small fishes who knew nothing of the inside operation – had mysteriously vanished into thin air along with XIU and the hidden big boss. It was as if they had never existed to begin with. Many of his comrades-in-arms who fought with him that year had given up, saying that those people could just fall into some pit hole for all they cared. Only Tak Jung-Hwa still persevered. Only he had never thought of giving up.

Seven years... he had been searching for seven long years and finally he was able to discover something today!

This was no longer the same case as Cui Yan where the truth was still dubious. This was really the former member of Xuanlong, in the flesh!

"Is it true...?" He straightened up and stalked toward Nurse Chen, crowding him against the opposite wall. Due to his inability to control his excitement, strands of pheromones – which were usually kept under a tight lid – drifted out of him, pressuring and forcing the other party to submit. "The one who came here... is it really XIU?!"

Nurse Chen frowned deeply. In front of an excited Superior Alpha, he did not cower at all. Instead, he glanced at the balcony door that was still opened by a crack, then he grabbed Tak Jung-Hwa by the collar and hissed in a low voice, "Keep your pheromones under control! What do you think will happen if it spreads all over this place, huh?!"

Hearing this, Tak Jung-Hwa froze and his excitement was dampened right away as if it had been doused by icy cold water. "Oh..." he staggered backward and palmed his face, a disbelieving laugh escaped his lips. He was so shocked that he reverted back to his mother tongue. "Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to... fuck..."

How could he... how could he lose control of himself just like that? He laughed again, hollow and mocking. The pheromones around his body quickly dissipated along with the faint breeze.

He had never been able to let go of the past. Some even said that he was obsessed with XIU to the point of paranoia. And it was not until now that he confirmed the truth. Just standing face-to-face with a former member of Xuanlong already got him so agitated. What if it was XIU next time? Snap out of it, Tak Jung-Hwa! You have to remain calm!

Nurse Chen brushed him aside in lieu of closing the door to the balcony. He turned to face Tak Jung-Hwa with a grave face. "Indeed... I used to be a member of Xuanlong. I won’t ask how you found out about it, but if you want to know something about Xuanlong, especially about XIU..." he narrowed his eyes sharply. "I won’t tell you anything even if you flay my skin."

"How loyal..." Tak Jung-Hwa let out a sharp whistle. He swiftly recovered from his momentary lapse of control and assumed a casual and friendly air. "I have heard that each of Xuanlong’s members has been the elite of elites, but it isn’t until I meet you that I can confirm it."

The corner of Nurse Chen’s lips twitched, yet his expression remained deadpan.

"Are you so dead set on protecting him? Even if Xuanlong has collapsed and he’s no longer the uncrowned hero of justice?" Sarcasm was thick in Tak Jung-hwa’s tone, especially when he said the four last words.

This time, he finally managed to get a reaction from the other man. Nurse Chen’s brows furrowed. "XIU is already..." his lips parted and closed, yet the sentence he uttered was, "XIU will never come to this kind of place. I don’t care if you don’t believe me, Sir, but I really have no idea that the one who visited last time was not the real Qin Zhen, nor has he looked for me."

This time, it was Tak Jung-Hwa who frowned. He had attuned his senses to Nurse Chen’s micro body language and could tell that the man was not lying – unless he was an expert liar who could fool someone of Tak Jung-Hwa’s caliber.

But if the one the imposter came for was not him, then who?

"He really didn’t act suspicious at all?" Tak Jung-Hwa asked, skeptical. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Nurse Chen shook his head. "Just like usual, he sat for around ten minutes before leaving." Then as if recalling something, he let out a soft ’ah’ and added, "If you could count the times he went to the bathroom..."

Tak Jung-Hwa perked up. "How many times? Which bathroom is it?"

"Twice. The one on the first floor, just past the living room."

He visited only for ten minutes, yet he went to the bathroom twice?! If this was not suspicious, then what was?!

"Okay!" Tak Jung-Hwa snatched the pen and small notebook from the nurse’s front pocket, then scribbled down his phone number. "If you remember anything else, please give me a call." He handed it to Nurse Chen and his lips stretched out in a teasing smile. "Now that I know who you are, don’t even think of running away. Or else..."

The corner of Nurse Chen’s lips twitched, again. "I won’t. I like my current job and... my conscience is clear. I have nothing to be afraid of."

Tak Jung-Hwa arched his perfect brow and shrugged. For now, he would place all of his focus on chasing after the mysterious imposter. He was not afraid that Nurse Chen would run away. Even if he did, Tak Jung-Hwa was certain he could chase the man until the end of the world.

"Okay, I will trust you for the time being," he said. With nothing left to ask, he bid the man goodbye and opened the balcony door, intending to check out the CCTV to see if he could discover something else.

Alas, before he could even take two steps, Nurse Chen’s baritone voice came from behind,

"You’re wrong. The police have always been wrong about Boss XIU. He... He is actually not as horrible as you guys made him out to be." Nurse Chen’s voice wavered for a split second. He swallowed and took a deep breath as if making up his mind. His eyes were calm and resolute as he said, "Just take it as a kind reminder from me, Sir. The person you should truly be cautious of is not XIU. Compared to the real vicious people in Xuanlong, Boss XIU can even be considered soft-hearted. If you’re investigating Xuanlong, be careful not to bump into them or else... you won’t even know how you die."
