Chapter 135: Chapter 135: A Self-Directed Play

"Are you sure it’s at Azure Dragon Bay?" Kaden Xavier asked, his dark eyes narrowing.

"Yes, Mr. Xavier. I had the company’s tech department check it three times. The IP address consistently points to Azure Dragon Bay. I’m sending you the location now."

To avoid any mistakes, he had confirmed it several times before daring to report it.

Assistant Lynch quickly sent the location from the investigation to Kaden Xavier.

Kaden Xavier opened it and discovered his own location was less than ten meters from the one he’d been sent.

And that direction was right inside the apartment.

Without a doubt, the person who sent the anonymous text to Mr. and Mrs. Lynch was Seraphina Sutton.

From start to finish, it was all an elaborate pity ploy she had orchestrated herself.

"Don’t let anyone else know for now."

After giving the instruction, Kaden Xavier hung up. His dark eyes casually glanced toward the apartment, a cold glint flashing within them.

He couldn’t quite understand why the once considerate and innocent Seraphina Sutton had become like this.

’Have I been too lenient with her out of respect for Asher Lynch?’

’Or did she develop feelings for me a long time ago?’

’And the matter with the child... did it have nothing to do with Wren Wynter after all?’

At this thought, a chilling glint flared in Kaden Xavier’s deep eyes.

He pocketed his phone and walked into the apartment, one hand in his pocket.

Nathaniel Quinn had already managed to calm Seraphina Sutton down.

The moment she saw Kaden Xavier enter, she immediately adopted a pitiful expression. She slowly approached him, grabbed his arm, and asked with concern, "Kaden, did Mr. and Mrs. Lynch give you a hard time?"

Kaden Xavier impassively pulled his hand free and sat on the sofa. His eyes were cold and devoid of any warmth, his jaw tight. The expression on his face was even more terrifying than his usual unsmiling demeanor.

Keenly sensing something was off, Seraphina Sutton’s heart began to pound with panic.

’It feels like Kaden is suppressing his anger... or maybe he’s discovered something.’

Seraphina Sutton bit her lip. "Kaden, I don’t know why Mom and Dad—no, Mr. and Mrs. Lynch—came to Azure Dragon Bay. I just opened the door today, and they were standing right there."

"You really don’t know?" Kaden Xavier draped an arm lazily over the back of the sofa, his dark eyes watching her coolly. His deep, cold voice rang out, deliberate and unhurried. "Or are you just playing dumb with me? Seraphina Sutton, how many times is this now?"

He rarely used her full name, a clear sign of just how angry he was.

Seraphina Sutton’s face turned deathly pale, but she forced herself to appear calm. "Kaden, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."

Kaden Xavier was utterly disappointed in her. "I had it checked. The IP address that sent the anonymous text to Mr. and Mrs. Lynch is located right here in Azure Dragon Bay. Are you going to keep denying it?"

"I... M-maybe... maybe someone else sent it. It’s just in Azure Dragon Bay. This place is huge; it doesn’t have to be me," Seraphina Sutton said, desperately trying to suppress her panic.

"Seraphina Sutton!" Kaden Xavier shot to his feet, his face contorted with anger, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Do you need me to spell it out for you? Did you really think I’d be saying this without proof?"

"Cole, are you saying Seraphina was the one who told them about the miscarriage?" Nathaniel Quinn, finding it just as incredible, stared wide-eyed at Seraphina, who was putting on a wronged expression.

Seraphina Sutton’s delicate brows furrowed. She neither admitted nor denied it, but the guilt in her eyes gave them their answer.

"Seraphina, why would you do that?" Nathaniel Quinn couldn’t understand.

Seraphina ignored Nathaniel and walked over to Kaden, reaching for his arm. He recoiled as if she were poison.

"From now on, you are not to touch me without my permission. And don’t call me Kaden. Don’t forget the only reason I’m taking care of you."

’It was my fault for not keeping my distance. That’s why Wren became so disheartened and divorced me.’

Tears welled up in Seraphina’s almond-shaped eyes. "Kaden, must we be so distant? Do you have to treat me like this? If I still had improper feelings for you, why would I have married Asher Lynch? Why would I have been willing to have his child? Is that really the kind of person you think I am?"

"If you really think I’m such a bother, then from now on, I’ll stay far away from you both. I’ll just pretend I never knew you."

Ever since his divorce from Wren, Kaden had become increasingly impatient and distant with her.

Now, he even objected to her touching him or calling him by his first name.

’He really does love that bitch, Wren.’

Kaden Xavier had seen this act from Seraphina many times. He used to think she was fragile, but now, it just irritated him.

"I’ll have my assistant arrange a job for you. Watch yourself."

He didn’t answer her. He just walked around the table and left.

Nathaniel Quinn glanced at Seraphina, sighed, and followed Kaden out.

’I can’t believe this whole farce was orchestrated by Seraphina.’

’It seems I don’t know her at all.’

As he walked out of Azure Dragon Bay Apartments, Kaden Xavier called Assistant Lynch. "Arrange a janitorial position for Seraphina Sutton at the airline."

"Understood, Mr. Xavier."

Nathaniel, who had caught up, overheard and said hesitantly, "Cole, she won’t be happy with a janitor job."

"She can either take the job or stay home and behave. I can tolerate this once, but I won’t a second time." Kaden glanced back at Nathaniel. "You should stay away from here from now on. Mind your own business. Isn’t your family’s company a big enough mess for you to deal with?"

"It’s not that. I just... Seraphina’s been our friend for so many years. I just wanted to see if she was doing okay. I never expected things to turn out like this."

What he didn’t tell Kaden was that when he’d come over a few days ago, he had seen the apartment floor covered in blood.

Nathaniel hesitated, but in the end, he chose to keep it to himself.

’If Cole finds out Seraphina killed someone, he’ll probably send her straight to prison.’

In the end, their years of friendship made him go soft.

After Kaden and Nathaniel left, Seraphina exploded. She snatched a throw pillow from the sofa and hurled it to the ground, her eyes filled with hatred.

’None of them want to see me happy! They’re all a bunch of scumbags!’

She had planned to use Mr. and Mrs. Lynch to play the victim in front of Kaden.

But Kaden had figured it out so quickly.

Seraphina hadn’t missed the disappointment in Kaden’s eyes. Combined with his recent attitude toward her, she knew the image she had so carefully constructed in his mind had completely shattered.

’It doesn’t matter. If I built that image once, I can definitely attract him again.’

DING—

Seraphina’s phone suddenly rang.

Suppressing her rage, she glanced at the caller ID.

"Hello?"

"Is this Miss Seraphina Sutton?"

"Speaking. May I ask who’s calling?"

"Miss Sutton, this is Assistant Lynch. Mr. Xavier instructed me to arrange a job for you."

Seraphina was stunned, and a fresh wave of anger surged through her.

’Kaden actually arranged a job for me!’

’Is he trying to get rid of me?’

’I don’t want to work some stupid job.’

But if she didn’t take the job, she’d never see Kaden, let alone have a chance to make her move.

"What kind of job is it? Can you tell me?"

"You’ll find out when you get to the airline."

’The airline?’

’Does Kaden want me to be a flight attendant again?’

’This is great!’

’This way, I’ll have a chance to be on the same flight as Kaden.’

’My chance to get close to him is here.’

"Okay, I’m on my way."

Seraphina hailed a cab and rushed to the airline. Assistant Lynch was already waiting for her at the entrance.

When he saw her get out of the car, he greeted her with a smile.

"Miss Sutton, please follow me. I’ll take you to your post."

"No need. I know where the flight attendants’ office is, I can go myself," Seraphina said confidently. She took one step forward before Assistant Lynch blocked her path.

"Miss Sutton, your position isn’t as a flight attendant. Mr. Xavier has given instructions. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be one of the company’s janitors."
