Chapter 134: Chapter 134: You Must Be Careful

"Cole..." Nathaniel Quinn started to say, but hesitated.

’So I was the one who misunderstood all along.’

DING—

Nathaniel Quinn’s phone suddenly rang.

He answered the call. Seraphina Sutton’s panicked voice was mixed with the sounds of things being smashed.

"Nathaniel, come save me! Asher Lynch’s parents are trying to kill me! Ah!"

Nathaniel Quinn glanced anxiously at Kaden Xavier beside him.

Kaden Xavier frowned, his voice deep. "We’re going to Azure Dragon Bay."

"Okay." Nathaniel Quinn nodded, then turned to speak to Seraphina on the other end of the line. "Seraphina, hang on. We’re on our way."

Kaden Xavier drove, heading toward Azure Dragon Bay with Nathaniel Quinn.

「They arrived forty minutes later.」

Clothes and luggage were strewn all over the ground in front of the apartment, and a crowd of onlookers had gathered.

"Seraphina!"

Nathaniel Quinn rushed into the apartment just as a cup flew toward him.

He couldn’t dodge in time. The cup shattered on the floor, and a shard flew up, cutting his cheek.

"Seraphina Sutton, you forgot what you promised me! This was Asher’s only bloodline, how could you... could you..."

Mrs. Lynch broke down, sobbing as she covered her mouth.

Beside her stood Mr. Lynch, his face contorted in anger.

Seraphina was curled up in a corner, hugging her knees and trembling all over.

Only when she heard Nathaniel Quinn’s voice did she raise her head and look toward the entrance.

"Nathaniel..."

Seraphina’s face was a mask of grievance, large tears streaming down uncontrollably.

Nathaniel Quinn walked over and pulled Seraphina into his arms.

"Seraphina, are you okay?"

"Nathaniel, I know it’s my fault. I couldn’t protect Asher’s baby, but... but I didn’t want this to happen."

Seraphina was crying so hard she didn’t even notice Kaden Xavier walk into the apartment.

"Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, it’s been a while," Kaden Xavier said as he entered.

When Mrs. Lynch saw Kaden Xavier, her eyes immediately reddened. She walked over and threw her arms around him.

"Kaden, Asher... Asher’s baby... *sob*, it’s gone!"

Mrs. Lynch’s cries were heart-wrenching.

As a mother, the last of her child’s bloodline was gone, which meant her last hope was gone too.

Her mournful cry was like a sharp knife stabbing into Kaden Xavier’s heart, sending waves of pain through him.

"Kaden! You’re here!"

Seraphina finally noticed Kaden Xavier’s arrival. She quickly pushed Nathaniel Quinn away, jogged over to Kaden, and forcefully pulled Mrs. Lynch out of his embrace.

Mr. Lynch caught his wife, his face full of anger. He looked like he was about to discipline Seraphina, but Kaden Xavier stopped him.

"Kaden, what is the meaning of this?"

"Mr. Lynch, she is Asher’s wife, after all. Let’s all sit down and talk this over."

"Kaden, they were trying to hit me, and they trashed the entire place! Look at my face, that crazy woman hit me!"

Kaden Xavier unhappily pulled his hand back from Seraphina’s grasp and said coldly, "Shut up!"

Startled by Kaden Xavier’s shout, Seraphina froze for a moment before lowering her head, looking aggrieved.

"Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, what exactly happened? Why did you suddenly come to Azure Dragon Bay?"

After calming his wife, Mr. Lynch regained some of his composure. "Kaden, if I hadn’t received an anonymous text this morning, when were you planning to tell us about the miscarriage?"

His question caught in Kaden Xavier’s throat. It was a long moment before he finally spoke.

"Mr. Lynch, I’m sorry. I failed to protect Asher’s child. I failed to carry out the task you entrusted to me."

"Kaden, this has nothing to do with you! It was all Wren Wynter! Wren Wynter is the one who harmed my baby!"

Seraphina pushed all the blame onto Wren Wynter, trying to redirect Mr. and Mrs. Lynch’s anger toward her.

But Mr. and Mrs. Lynch weren’t fools. They were already dissatisfied with Seraphina, so how could they believe her one-sided story?

"Kaden, what really happened?" Mr. Lynch asked Kaden Xavier again.

Kaden Xavier pressed his lips together, still intending to conceal what had happened that day.

"Mr. Lynch, it’s all my fault. I didn’t take good care of Seraphina, and I failed to ensure the child’s safe birth. If you’re going to blame someone, blame me."

Kaden Xavier bowed to Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, his eyes filled with sincerity. "I’m sorry."

Mr. and Mrs. Lynch looked at each other.

Mrs. Lynch forced herself to suppress her grief and turned her head away. Mr. Lynch stepped forward, patted Kaden’s shoulder, and sighed heavily.

"It’s not your fault. Perhaps this was just fate."

Kaden Xavier had no obligation to take care of them in the first place; he was doing it all out of his affection and loyalty for their son.

They had also heard about the terrible accident that had befallen Old Madam Xavier recently, so they knew Kaden Xavier hadn’t been having an easy time.

"Sigh... let it be. It seems Asher wasn’t fated to have this. We’ll have to accept it."

Mr. Lynch took his wife’s hand, and the couple, both over fifty, supported each other as they walked out of the apartment.

Their hair had mostly turned white from the grief of Asher Lynch’s passing.

Kaden Xavier watched their retreating figures, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

He quickly chased after them and stopped Mr. Lynch.

"Mr. Lynch, this is just a small token from me. You must accept it."

Kaden Xavier took a card from his inner pocket and pressed it into Mr. Lynch’s hand.

Mr. Lynch quickly refused. "We can’t take this. You don’t owe our family anything. How could we accept your money?"

"Mr. Lynch, please don’t say that. I owe Asher a debt I can never repay in this lifetime. He was my best friend. Now that he’s gone, I should take on his responsibilities and obligations, and provide for you in your old age."

As the head of the Xavier Family, providing for a couple in their retirement was a simple matter for him.

He felt immense guilt over the loss of the child and hoped to make it up to the Lynch Family in this way.

"Kaden, you’re a good kid. If Asher is watching from heaven, he certainly wouldn’t want you to blame yourself so much. And about Old Madam Xavier... my condolences."

Kaden Xavier nodded but still pressed the card into Mr. Lynch’s hand.

"Mr. Lynch, Mrs. Lynch, if you need anything in the future, please don’t hesitate to come to me. I’ll help in any way I can."

"Good kid. There’s something we need to remind you of. This Seraphina Sutton... she’s not as innocent as she appears on the surface. You must be careful."

"Don’t worry, Mr. and Mrs. Lynch. I’m well aware."

Mr. and Mrs. Lynch nodded, and Kaden Xavier arranged for a driver to take them home.

He stood at the entrance, looking at the open apartment door, and took out his phone to call Assistant Lynch.

"Have the company’s tech department find out who sent that anonymous text to the Lynch Family today."

"Yes, Mr. Xavier."

Kaden Xavier remained where he was, not going back into the apartment. He waited for his assistant’s reply with a cigarette dangling from his lips.

A short while later, Assistant Lynch called back.

"Mr. Xavier, we found it. The IP address for the anonymous text is right there in Azure Dragon Bay."
