Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Being a Janitor

"What? A janitor?" Seraphina Sutton was stunned. She forced a smile onto her face. "Assistant Lynch, you must have made a mistake! There’s no way Kaden would make me a janitor, right?"

That was a job for middle-aged women in their forties and fifties.

’Even at my worst, I should at least be an office clerk!’

"Miss Sutton, I haven’t made a mistake. Mr. Xavier has already sent an email to HR. If you don’t believe me, you can ask HR yourself or ask Mr. Xavier directly," Assistant Lynch said, maintaining a polite attitude.

He didn’t have a very high opinion of Seraphina Sutton for meddling in Mr. Xavier’s love life.

Especially not after finding out about the things she’d done.

Seraphina Sutton was in disbelief. She never imagined that when Kaden Xavier asked her to come back to work, it would be as a janitor!

’Is he punishing me, or is he humiliating me?’

Her face flushed a ghastly, purplish-red.

"I don’t believe it. I’m going to ask Kaden myself."

’I used to be a flight attendant, for crying out loud.’

"Be my guest."

Assistant Lynch didn’t try to stop her, which instantly made Seraphina Sutton feel her confidence waver.

’Could Kaden really be making me a janitor?’

"If you have no further questions, Miss Sutton, I’ll take you to your post. The janitor’s closet is mostly tidy, and all the tools are ready for you to use at any time."

Assistant Lynch led Seraphina Sutton to the door of the janitor’s closet.

Seraphina Sutton stared at the words on the door, "Janitor’s Closet," a dark glint in her eyes.

She clenched her fists and bit down hard on her lower lip, feeling more wronged and stifled than ever before.

’Her, Seraphina Sutton, a top student from a Project 985 university, reduced to being a janitor?’

"Miss Sutton, are there any other problems?" Assistant Lynch asked.

Seraphina Sutton took a deep breath and turned to Assistant Lynch. "I want to see Kaden."

"There are still many company matters for Mr. Xavier to handle. I’m afraid he doesn’t have time to see you, Miss Sutton. Please don’t make things difficult for me," said Assistant Lynch.

’I’m just a lowly employee, don’t drag me into this mess!’

"Weren’t you the one who told me to go find Kaden? Why are you stopping me now?!"

Humiliated and enraged, Seraphina Sutton threw her Chanel bag in Assistant Lynch’s face. Her chest heaved with anger.

Throughout the ordeal, Assistant Lynch maintained a standard, professional smile on his face, showing no sign of impatience.

"That was merely a suggestion. If you doubt your job assignment, Miss Sutton, you are more than welcome to seek confirmation from Mr. Xavier. However, he is busy at the moment, so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to see him."

"Pfft."

A snort of laughter came from behind them. Seraphina Sutton spun around to see Claire Shaw and Joy Lynch emerging from the restroom behind her, watching her with their arms crossed and mocking expressions.

"Well, if it isn’t Flight Attendant Sutton? I thought you were fired. How do you still have the nerve to show your face here?"

"You two!" Seraphina Sutton’s face was ashen. "So what if I was fired? Kaden still personally arranged a job for me. Did you really think you could get rid of me?"

Joy Lynch raised an eyebrow, folded her arms, and glanced at the janitor’s closet. "So your Kaden arranged a janitor position for you? Why didn’t he arrange something else, Flight Attendant Sutton?"

"Exactly. I bet Mr. Xavier found out about all the shady things you’ve done and is punishing you by making you our janitor."

The moment Claire Shaw thought about how Seraphina Sutton had driven Wren Wynter away in anger, she flew into a rage and felt compelled to get some payback for Wren.

"You... You’ve gone too far!" Seraphina Sutton turned and ordered Assistant Lynch haughtily, "Assistant Lynch, I’m not going to be a janitor. Arrange a purser position for me. I’ll talk to Kaden about it later."

"Miss Sutton, Mr. Xavier gave the order to assign you to the janitor position. I have no authority to change your post on my own."

"You! Why can’t you be more flexible!"

Joy Lynch sneered, her contemptuous gaze sweeping over Seraphina Sutton. "Seraphina Sutton, this airline is owned by the Xaviers, not the Suttons. Do you really think you own the place?"

"You!"

Suddenly, as if she’d spotted a lifeline, her eyes reddened instantly. She looked down, her expression pitifully wronged, and her voice choked with sobs. "I know you don’t like me because of Dr. Wynter, but you can’t bully me just because I’m a janitor. Aren’t janitors human, too?"

"That’s it, Dr. Lynch, I’m going to rip her mouth off. Her fake act is making me sick." Claire Shaw rolled up her sleeves and angrily started to charge forward, but Joy Lynch held her back.

In her experience, a sudden change of face from Seraphina Sutton meant someone else had arrived.

Sure enough, not even a second later, a cold voice cut in. "What’s going on here?"

It was Kaden Xavier and Felix Vance.

Kaden Xavier had originally come to see if he had any flights scheduled soon.

He had been busy handling company affairs lately, so he had turned down many of them.

Seeing Seraphina Sutton, Kaden Xavier’s brows tightened.

"Kaden, I... I don’t know how I offended Dr. Lynch and Dr. Shaw. It’s probably because they’re good friends with Dr. Wynter and want to get some revenge for her. I can understand that."

"Hah! Weren’t you the one just throwing a tantrum here because you didn’t like the janitor job and couldn’t believe Kaden Xavier assigned it to you?"

"That’s right, we heard everything! Mr. Xavier, if you don’t believe us, you can ask Assistant Lynch!"

A flicker of panic crossed Seraphina Sutton’s face, and she hurriedly said, "Kaden, my health isn’t good. I really can’t handle the work of a janitor. That’s why I lost my temper with Assistant Lynch. I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. If you’re going to be angry, be angry with me. Don’t blame them."

Kaden Xavier’s cold gaze swept over Seraphina Sutton before he looked impassively at Assistant Lynch. "Assistant Lynch, what happened?"

Assistant Lynch smiled respectfully and recounted the entire incident to Kaden Xavier in detail.

Seraphina Sutton guiltily studied Kaden Xavier. Seeing his still-impassive face, she breathed a small sigh of relief.

’Looks like Kaden isn’t angry.’

’I knew it. How could Kaden get angry at me over something so trivial?’

But in the next second, a voice so cold it was devoid of any emotion came from above her.

"Seraphina Sutton, if you want to work here, being a janitor is your only option. Otherwise, you can stay put at Azure Dragon Bay, or go find a job on your own. I’ve already given you the compensation you’re owed. I can’t give you anything else, and you shouldn’t covet what doesn’t belong to you."

The color drained from Seraphina Sutton’s face.

Her hands trembled as she reached out to grab Kaden Xavier’s clothes, but Felix Vance tactlessly stepped between them.

"Kaden, that’s not what I meant..."

’Does he really expect me to be a janitor?’

’I don’t want to!’

"I just want to help share some of your burdens. I broke the rules back then when I was pregnant, and now I just want to make up for it..."

"The company isn’t short on flight attendants. You have only two choices: be a janitor, or leave."
