Chapter 94: Guild Masters Meeting [6]

The chairman was looking at the vice chairman, his eyes straight and unblinking. The truth was getting out and he was afraid that it was actually the wrong time.

The vice chairman made a gesture with his hands, asking if he should tell them what they were both communicating from their eyes, but the chairman, also using his hands, dismissed it.

The Chairman thought inwardly, ’I can’t let them know now, not at this crucial moment. The world outside is already chaotic as it is, I can’t put them in such a situation. But why now, why at this time?’

He turned to George, giving him a sign for him to continue what he was using.

And George continued, he turned to Charlotte, responding to her question, "I get your point concerning the matter of the mana draining system, but you don’t have to worry anymore. From what I heard, it had been destroyed, and they were able to use mana again even before they left the abyss."

Charlotte was holding a straight and composed expression, looking at George while he said this. The once flustered expression she had was now replaced with a serious expression.

"Were they able to figure out what was causing it?" She asked, "If they did, then they would need to share the information with us so we can counter such ability when we come across it."

Everyone had already given her a questionable expression.

"Come across it? Are you saying that there might be people with such ability outside the abyss?" Quincy asked, his head and hands laid on the table, looking at Charlotte.

Then she responded, "I am just saying. It might be possible that someone has or not, we would never know, all we have to do is take caution."

George continued, "I don’t think that’s something we need to worry about. This was the ability of the king of the castle they were kept, and after he was killed, the ability stopped and they began to perceive mana again, so I don’t think it’s an ability someone else could just obtain. I’ll call it... a unique ability."

Charlotte was about to speak, but got chanced by Julius. "So this King, is he like a tyrant or what? Since he’s the king of a whole castle they should be more about him than just his ability."

George shook his index finger, "Tick tick tick... funny as you say that, but there was actually nothing about him except his ability."

"What do you mean," the chairman asked.

"Well he was the king, yes, but not the one ruling..." the words of George confused everyone.

"How so?" Raymond asked, curious.

"From what I was told, hebwas only sitting on the top for seating sake, the main person who controlled everything was the administration dude. He was the king from behind the shadows, the real king was already seated on the throne for decoration, and also the use of his ability." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Charlotte wanted to speak, but by showing his right palm, George was able to keep her still, "Old on, let me finish."

Seeing the way she shunned, Charlotte felt a massive strike in her heart like an arrow attacking it.

Her serious expression turned pale, putting her hand on her chest and feeling the way her heart was beating. ’What is wrong with me?’ she wondered inwardly.

Seeing that she didn’t say another thing, George continued, "The administrator was capturing the awakeners and for his plan to succeed he used the king’s ability to drain their mana away preventing them from attacking or using it."

"This way he would do whatever he was doing with them in peace. The true reason why he was taking awakeners is still a mystery. All my people were able to conclude that he was running experiments and personally I think that’s enough to know."

The expression of the vice chairman changed, puzzled as baffled at the same time. "A dwarf running experiments on humans? That’s just not right. Aren’t they supposed to be craftsmen or something of that nature?"

His question was asked and quickly Quincy responded, "That’s the general classification that they have been assigned to in fantasy stories, but they are capable of doing other things also. This dwarf was called an administrator meaning he learnt a whole lot of things, so it shouldn’t be that surprising. They are good builders so learning about skills apart from crafting is highly possible."

The vice chairman nodded his head in agreement, he was content with this explanation, and had no desire to push it any further, but he still had questions.

"But that doesn’t justify why he would be running experiments on awakeners. I can’t say humans in general because no normal human is capable of entering the abyss, so it’s easy to say that it’s only awakeners that he was able to get his hands on."

"But we are still humans." Raymond uttered, "If you look at it from its own point of view, you would understand something. If is a dwarf scientist and seeing humans it was curious. What is the natural thing a scientist would do when curious?" While speaking, his voice was sounding wieldy off his mask.

"Run experiments?" Quincy answered, and Raymond responded pointing at him then back.

"Exactly! When scientists see what they don’t understand their next action is to find answers which would lead to running an experiment to find such answers. This is the natural way and we shouldn’t be worried about this. What we should be worried about is that they knew we existed, and something outside the gate that brings us to their world, assuming they have seen it, they would know the whole world exists outside theirs."

The words made sense and everyone reasoned it in their hearts. If there is a whole other race inside the abyss, then it would mean they already know about the existence of humans beyond their world.

"Don’t worry buddy, there’s nothing you need to worry about, is dead now." George uttered, looking at Raymond.

Hearing that the administrator was dead wasn’t a shock to them. Actually it was but they just didn’t give any reactions to it since everything was already coming out of George’s mouth was surprising.

Raymond nodded and then uttered, "Even though he’s dead that doesn’t mean the others are. They know we exist and are living. We enter their world, take their resources, kill their kind, and leave. What makes you think they haven’t noticed and would try to come to our own world also?"

"A revenge story I’ll call it."
