World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 56: Warehouse Raid (1)
On the bed, Leon shifted so he could face the woman properly.
"I want you to tell me more about this so-called Star Stream. Is it a system or something? Because... I feel like I can’t seem to understand it."
He paused, his brows furrowed as he processed his next words.
"Usually, in the games I play, your stats increase by a fixed number per level. However, it’s completely random with the Star Stream. Sometimes, I might get 5 stat points by reaching Level 3, then when I get to Level 4, I’ll only get 2 stat points as my reward. It’s confusing, honestly."
Thyra remained silent until he was done, then she spoke.
"I believe the Star Stream is sentient, and has its own omnipresent and omnipotent consciousness. From what we’ve studied and seen in the records, the Star Stream is very invested in a person’s effort. Do you know that you can level up through means other than killing?"
Leon blinked, astonished. "Really? I wasn’t expecting that."
"Hm, I know." She nodded and continued. "Naturally, you can’t realize that for now. It only works for ranked entities that have their own ’class’. If your class was a... tailor, for example. Then, as long as you keep perfecting your tailoring skills and sew more, you’ll be able to level up."
"That’s... a new side to it." He chuckled, "Though, I’m even more surprised that you know what a tailor means."
Thyra’s lips parted in surprise. "What do you mean? Although I can manifest clothes on myself as I wish, it’s not the same for our denizens who are weaker or unranked. At the base level of every world or society, all these menial jobs and classes are always present."
"I see... I should have thought so." Leon said, and fell silent.
Seeing that, she continued. "As I was saying, the Star Stream prioritizes effort. And although working hard in your ’class’ can help you level up, it’s usually not as fast as mutated beasts and others."
Leon nodded and thought to himself. ’In the end, it’s better to focus on killing... if you can.’
"So the status points you gain depends entirely on how much effort you put into that kill that made you level up. We can’t predict it, and that is why there are usually some differences between people of the same level."
Finally having an answer to this confusing topic, he felt relieved. "Thank you, Thyra. But I have another question."
She nodded, prompting him to speak.
"I’m already at Level 24, and by tomorrow, I guess I’ll reach the anticipated Level 25. Is there anything you might want to inform me about? What are the evolution requirements and class options?"
Thyra didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she closed her eyes and pondered on how much information would be safe to tell him. After a while, she opened her eyes.
"There is little I can tell you actually, but everyone’s evolution requirements are usually different. Sometimes, it might be to kill something stronger than you, or that you should get hold of a plant. But all in all, it’s usually customized for each person’s capabilities."
Leon nodded slowly. He was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t get any precise information, but he understood that it wasn’t Thyra’s fault.
’I’ll just have to wait and see, then.’ He thought.
"Well, I can tell you one thing I’m sure about, though." Thyra suddenly smiled, causing Leon to shiver.
He felt like that smile wasn’t good at all. "What is that?"
Looking at him with a soft, excited gaze, she purred. "Your evolution requirements will be very hard. After all, you’re very strong."
Instantly, Leon’s expression fell.
"Damnit!"
The next morning, everyone was gathered in the living room. The siblings had been taken away by Sergeant Lauren who promised to take special care of the kids.
Looking at Selene who was clad in a silver dress that seemed to be a mix with silver armor, the others stared in surprised.
"Wow... when did you get this?" Reymond asked in surprise.
Glancing at him for a moment, she looked away and answered. "We all got rewards yesterday, didn’t we?"
Leon’s eyes widened, and he immediately facepalmed.
’Ugh... how could I have forgotten?’
He had been so occupied thinking about how hard his evolution requirements would be that he had forgotten about the other rewards.
’I’ll check them once we’re back. Hopefully, I don’t forget again. That would be embarrassing.’
Sighing, he massaged his temples, then looked at Cassie. "Where’s Fel?"
The black-haired girl had a conflicted expression on her face, then went into the room to call her out.
When the two returned to the living room, everyone was shocked.
Fel was wearing a crop sweater that exposed her smooth and slim tummy. A pair of baggy trousers hung from her hips, and her lower face was covered with a black nose mask.
Leon blinked in surprise. "Fel?"
The girl looked at him, then answered. "Boss?"
Her voice sounded muffled from beneath the mask, but Leon could tell that she didn’t sound timid anymore.
He looked at her hand and noticed that she had the coin he had given her. Although he was still confused, he decided not to focus on that for now.
"Alright. Since everyone is ready, let’s go meet them." Selene said calmly, then walked out of the house.
Reymond, Leon, Gwen, Richard, and the others followed behind her.
When they arrived at the police station, the camp’s fighting force was ready too.
Naturally, it consisted of Captain Jester, Lieutenant Zhong, Sergeant Lauren, and two more police officers, from the police department.
On the other side, Felix came along with four other gangsters who were carrying special medieval weapons with them.
Fel’s dressing drew a bit of attention, but no one said anything about it.
"Good morning, Captain." Reymond greeted the man with a smile, earning a smile in return.
"Good morning. I see you’re all prepared." Captain Jester smiled. "I’m glad we could get your help."
He looked at Gwen, then said. "Young Miss, we prepared this in advance for you."
One of the officers came forward with a box and opened it. Inside was an exquisite quiver full of sharp silver arrows. It was definitely a reward from the Star Stream, and they were now offering it to Gwen as a gift.
The girl blinked in surprise, then looked at Captain Jester. "Oh... thank you. I’ll be borrowing these, then."
She took the quiver and slung it over her shoulder, smiling faintly. Although she knew that the man only did this because she was a relative of Donald Thompson, she still appreciated the gift.
"Since we’re all ready, we can depart immediately."
