Chapter 279: Ice Skating in Hell

"Here, one of these might help." Figg said with a bashful smile, handing Belladonna a tube made of some kind of bright blue bamboo that was corked at one end and grown closed on the other.

"Some shoes would help even more." Saige muttered with a smirk, forgetting that he was within kicking range of Belladonna and stepped away, rubbing the back of his head in pain as Belladonna investigated the bamboo tube.

She uncorked it, immediately getting hit with the minty fragrance of the liquid held within. Lifting it to her lips, Belladonna quickly gulped it down, handing the tube back to Figg at his request, as the potion started to work through her system.

The blood in her veins turned to ice water, and the breath curled from her lips in thick white clouds, as her entire body felt like she was dropped in artic waters. However it wasn’t uncomfortable, in fact it was quite relaxing, as the change in her body temperature easily combated the overbearing heat that was surrounding her.

When she stepped off the air platform and onto the sizzling rocks, a small cloud of steam curled from where her skin touched stone. She could feel some measure of warmth, but it was no where near the searing pain that she had experienced before.

"Fire resistance potions are a must for this dungeon. I wish I could have given them before we jumped, but they have a limited duration and it was better to rush and do it now." Figg explained sheepishly, placing the bottle back into his bag, as well as taking the ones that he had distributed to the rest of the party who all had the same curling breath

The only exception was Gaia the baby dragon, who was rolling on the sizzling stone, loving the comfortable heat against her scales.

Belladonna chuckled at the dragons lax attitude in such a literally hellish environment, before turning to their expert.

"Since you had those prepared, you must know the layout of the dungeon, right?"

"I sure do." Figg announced, puffing out his chest proudly, "It’s broken down into multiple different levels, with mini bosses’ at every third level. However people have only ever made it to the second mini boss at the most, never actually stepping foot on the seventh level, so no one is actually sure how deep it goes. General consensus is nine, that fits the pattern.

The main issue is stamina. Fire resistance potions or ice magic, both eventually run out and with people unable to regain mana without copious amounts of even more potions, which are insanely expensive, the six level is seeming like the limit.

But that won’t stop us, right? Not only can we all regain mana thanks to our lovely Baroness, but I made all these potions myself, with ingredients I grew myself! This dungeon was practically made for us to conquer!" He shouted, puffing out his chest with even more pride as he cackled like a maniacal genius.

After giving Figg a chance to revel in his devious machinations, the group eventually started to move through the dungeon, unbothered by the heat thanks to the potions. Whilst they walked, Figg explained some details about the creatures filling the dungeon, but since there was some degree of randomness, Belladonna only half paid attention.

Instead she was focusing on the feeling the potion gave her in her body. The chilling in her blood, the way it relaxed her, reminded her perfectly of her ice infusion. So much so that she started to experiment with her infusions whilst she walked.

With her hands held up in front of her, Belladonna glanced between them. Her right had was currently being filled with a fire infusion, or at least she was trying.

Although she followed the steps correctly, her arm did not gain a fire infusion. Instead it simply returned back to normal, starting to be affected by the heat of her surroundings just like before, as the fire infusion simply cancelled out the effects of the potion.

Meanwhile on the other hand, literally, it had the exact opposite effect. She thought that trying to use any infusion would overwrite the potion, but instead using an ice infusion with the potion actually enhanced its effects. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Combining the two, her hand turned a deep blue as it lost all semblance of flesh and became solid ice. She could still move and feel her fingers, despite them now being literally made of ice. If she had to guess, the potions worked like an artificial infusion, whilst the element of her actual infusion could further alter it.

It was doubtful that ice fists would be useful in a fight, as they would probably just shatter, however that didn’t mean this discovery was totally useless.

Letting her arms turn back to the natural influence of the potion, Belladonna moved her infusion away from her arms and down into her feet. Her legs solidified into ice, and when her next step landed, she started to glide across the stone whilst leaving a sizzling trail of rapidly melting and then boiling ice, like she was a stick of butter in a hot pan.

Vestra glanced at Belladonna as she idly ice skated beside her, and let out a soft giggle. Belladonna smirked at her, adding a few spins to her skating before gliding backwards so she was facing Vestra.

"Bell... You know your tattoo thingies?" She said with a nervous smile, gesturing to Belladonna’s hands and feet.

"Hmm? Oh you mean these?" Belladonna asked, showing the Blood Well glyph that was still carved into her palm.

"What about them?"

"Well I was just wondering... are you able to give those to other people? I think it would be good to have one just to try..." Vestra asked sheepishly, before a hint of panic flashed across her face, causing her to quickly and desperately add, "A-also to use as a last line of defence or a trick card to have in the bank! Not just to play around with! I-I just think it could be useful."

Belladonna couldn’t help but laugh as Vestra started to turn red with blush, her face heating up despite the potion cooling her body, as her childish desires were accidentally exposed by her own mouth.

Her attempt to justify it afterwards only further driving the nail of embarrassment into her heart.

However, when Belladonna opened her mouth to answer, she found herself pausing. Her smile slowly fading into a deep frown, as she tilted her head.

Now that she thought about it, that was a very good question. Could she give others glyphs?
