Chapter 584: I Owe It to You

Christian automatically looked at Wendy and Michael as they held their hands tightly. Even though he was laughing, his voice sounded insincere. "How could you have brought Wendy here considering how much you love her? Are you not afraid something bad might happen to her?"

"Christian, we both know what we are doing here, so stop wasting time with this idle banter," said Michael coldly.

Wendy was not interested in listening to Christian at all and ran straight into the apartment to look for Zen.

Sure enough, Zen was lying on the ground, the floor covered in blood.

"Zen..." Wendy ran over immediately and squatted down to help her up.

Sadly, Zen was too badly injured. Her thigh was injured and Christian had also kicked her several times.

Wendy was incapable of helping Zen up on her own.

"Michael, come give me a hand!" Wendy turned her head and called out to him anxiously.

Michael immediately walked over when he heard Wendy.

They finally managed to help Zen up with Michael’s assistance.

"Zen, just bear with me. I will take you to the hospital immediately." Wendy’s eyes automatically misted over when she saw all the injuries on her body.

"Wendy..." Zen swallowed the excruciating pain as she reached out and pointed at the bedroom containing the safe and said anxiously, "The safe is in there, but it is chained down. You have to get the safe."

"Okay. We will definitely get the safe. How are you feeling now? Are you okay?"

Wendy asked, her voice choking as she helped Zen up.

"I..." Zen swallowed hard. "I am fine. Just leave me and get the safe first."

"Michael, I am taking Zen to the hospital. I will leave him to you." Wendy balanced Zen’s weight against her body so that Michael could let go of her.

Michael looked at Wendy worriedly. He was afraid Wendy would have trouble bringing Zen downstairs by herself since she was pregnant. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Let me take you downstairs," said Michael. "I will have someone take you two to the hospital when we get downstairs."

Michael certainly could not go to the hospital with them since he had to handle Christian personally.

Now that they had finally learned the whereabouts of the safe, he did not want to leave empty-handed.

"But what about..." Before Wendy could finish her sentence, Christian walked up in front of them, pulled out his gun, and pointed it at them.

Wendy exclaimed in shock.

"What is the meaning of this?" asked Michael as he stepped forward and stood in front of Wendy pulling out the gun at his waist.

"This is my home. Do you think you can come and go from my territory as you please?" Christian raised his head and glanced at the three of them coldly.

"Zen is already badly injured. Do you really want her to die here?" asked Michael.

"I get to decide whether she lives or dies. You do not have the right to decide."

Christian had no intention of giving in.

He was not going to let Wendy and Zen leave, especially Wendy.

Christian thought Michael would never bring Wendy to his place, so he had sent men to standby at her place to abduct her if that was what it took.

He had not expected Michael and Wendy to come knocking on his door.

If Christian let Wendy take Zen to the hospital, he wouldn’t be able to touch Wendy.

After all, the usual hospital they visited belonged to Milo and he was Michael’s good friend.

...

"Christian, are you still a human being?" Wendy looked at Zen’s ghastly pale face and could not help but speak harshly, "Zen will bleed out and die if she does not go to the hospital now!"

"Does she not want to die? I am simply fulfilling her wishes here," said Christian as he laughed coldly. He glanced at Zen and asked, "Isn’t that right, Zen?"

"You never cease to amaze me. You keep reminding me of just how ruthless you are," said Wendy as she gritted her teeth.

"In that case, it is a real honor for me." Christian smiled even more sinisterly as he looked at Wendy deeply.

"What do I have to do to take Zen to the hospital?" Wendy knew it was useless to ask Christian to let them leave, so she hoped he would name his demands. That way, she could stop wasting the precious time Zen had left.

"Let me leave with the safe and pretend nothing happened here today," said Christian straightforwardly.

"That is impossible!" Michael immediately countered.

He had planned this for over half a year and got Interpol involved to force Christian into a corner.

If he allowed Christian to leave with the safe, it would mean that all his efforts would go to waste.

"Michael..." Wendy looked at him tearily as she bit her lip wanting to say something.

However, Zen Interrupted her, "Wendy, do not worry about me."

Wendy wanted to convince Michael to accept Christian’s demands, but she knew his request was too much to ask for.

The moment they allowed Christian to leave today, he would only come back stronger.

"Wendy, don’t worry about me." Tears trickled down Zen’s face as she shook her head and said, "Do what you have to. It does not matter if I die. In any case, I will not be dying anytime soon. Christian’s bullet has already penetrated through my thigh, and it’s not like I was shot in the heart or brain."

"But you have lost so much blood. If we do not stop the bleeding, you are going to die," said Wendy.

"I owe you..." Zen said with great difficulty as she uttered each word. "Before you even got here, I was prepared to die if I had to. Wendy, it is such torture for me to live. If you lose this opportunity today because of me, I will feel bad about it for the rest of my life even if I survive."

Zen simply owed Wendy too much.

Even if she was to die today, she had to repay that debt.

"Christian, you should know there is no escape for you today. Your stock in Lake City is already in Interpol’s hands and they have evidence of your drug trafficking activities," said Michael coldly. "Even if you don’t let us take Zen, you are merely taking Zen along with you when you die."

"Then she will die with me." Christian laughed as he spoke, "That way, I’ll have some company when I enter the underworld."

Wendy and Michael knew that Christian would never let them leave with Zen.

Wendy helped Zen to sit on the couch and asked, "Is there a first aid kit in here?"

Zen nodded and pointed at the room as she said, "It’s in the large cabinet in that room."

Wendy acknowledged softly and went to the room immediately.

Before long, she came out with a first aid kit and tried to staunch Zen’s bleeding as best as she could.

Zen had lost a lot of blood, so her face was already ashen.

If Wendy did not stop the bleeding immediately, Zen might not survive.

...

Michael watched as Wendy helped staunch Zen’s bleeding before he glanced at the room where the safe was.

He strode straight towards it, but after taking a couple of steps, Christian stood in front of him and stopped him.

He could not let them see the contents of the room since he had not just kept a safe in there.

Michael and Wendy were both here. If they found out that he had kept Wendy’s old belongings in there... Christian held the gun and pointed it at Michael’s forehead.

Michael did not waver as he pointed his gun at Christian’s head as well.

"Do you want to find out which one of us is a faster shooter?" threatened Michael.

"Michael, you would never do it," said Christian as he laughed. "I have already gone too far. Life does not matter to someone like me, but you are different. You have a family, children, and now Wendy is pregnant with another child. Do you really want to test your theory?"

Michael certainly did not dare to take the risk.

He was not the same old Michael anymore.

There were things he cared about now.

"Even if I don’t go in now, Evan is going to get here soon with his men," said Michael.

"Did you think there was any way for you to escape even if you made me come alone? Your men are already under my control. I might be exaggerating a little when I said they were under my control, but I can assure you it will be impossible for you to leave now. When Evan gets here, it will be even more useless for you to put up a struggle."

"Oh really?" Christian sneered coldly, "In that case, I will wait for him to show up then."

In reality, Christian had simply been trying to delay things.

Michael was waiting for Evan to get here and Christian was waiting for someone as well.

He knew it was futile for him to attempt to overcome Michael by brute force.

Moreover, Evan was on his way here.

The atmosphere instantly intensified.

Wendy did not have time to bother with them since she was busy stopping Zen’s bleeding.

Fortunately, Wendy had first aid training, so she was able to temporarily staunch Zen’s bleeding.

Wendy heaved a sigh of relief before she stood up and strode over to Michael.

She watched as they raised their guns at each other’s heads and inhaled deeply. She made up her mind before pulling out the gun Michael had given her earlier.

Wendy held the gun with trembling hands, but pointed it at Christian and said coldly, "Christian, put down the gun!"

Christian had not expected Wendy to come armed with a weapon. Judging from the way her hands trembled, Christian did not think she posed a threat.

As Christian looked at Wendy and was about to speak, Michael swiftly struck Christian’s wrist.

Christian winced in pain and dropped his gun.

Michael quickly kicked the gun aside.

Christian looked furious when he saw that his gun was kicked afar.

"Wendy, go inside the room..." Michael said to Wendy.

Wendy nodded. She put away the gun and walked over to the bedroom as Christian watched.

"No, you cannot go in there!" shouted Christian as Wendy headed straight to the room.

He could not let Wendy see the things in the room.

It was his most well-kept secret.

Although Zen already knew about Christian’s secret, he did not want Wendy and Michael to find out.

Just as Christian was about to stop Wendy, Michael stepped forward and blocked Christian’s path as he trained his gun on Christian, "Do not move!"

Wendy glanced at Christian before heading into the room.

Wendy reached out and opened the door. It had been left slightly ajar.
