Unwanted Marriage: Honey, No More Divorce!
Chapter 583: I Am Not Afraid Because You Are Here
Wendy was worried that Christian, in his fury, would shoot Zen.
After all, Christian was capable of such ruthlessness.
Michael was barely acquainted with Zen and they could hardly be considered friends.
If anything happened, Michael was bound to give Zen up.
Wendy could not let Zen die because of the safe.
Regardless of the vendetta between Wendy and Zen, this time Zen was in such trouble because of them.
Wendy had to do her best to protect her and ensure that she does not die.
Wendy was the only person who cared about Zen’s life.
Michael knew Wendy was a stubborn woman.
Since she had already made up her mind, Michael stopped trying to convince her otherwise.
Michael started the engine and quickly drove over to Christian’s place.
Christian’s place was rather close to Michael’s. After all, both their businesses were located in Lake City’s CBD district.
Christian had deliberately established the DR Group right beside Michael’s company, MC Enterprise.
Hence, the companies were just a few minutes apart by car.
...
"Zen, how dare you?" said Christian, he kept his foot on her injury with no intention of moving it.
Sweat trickled down her face from the pain she was in as his sinister stare fixed on her.
The pain was so great that Zen was now incapable of feeling anything.
Zen’s face was ghastly pale from all the blood loss. She clenched her teeth tight and tried her best not to moan.
"I told you to tell them that the safe was not here. Why did you do the opposite?"
Christian raised his hand and slapped Zen’s face viciously.
In an instant, Zen’s cheek swelled and blood oozed from the corner of her lips.
"Do you know what the safe means to me?" said Christian as he gritted his teeth. "It contains all the evidence of my drug trade all these years. It contains the contracts of my trades with drug traffickers in Rheinsville City, evidence of our fund transfers, and proof of money laundering."
Christian’s hands might have been covered in a lot of blood, but he was always capable of cleaning his murder tracks.
However, he could not clean all his tracks in drug trafficking.
He had to use his connections to strike drug deals.
As long as deals were struck, contracts were always involved for both legal and illegal business activities.
Contracts were the only way to guarantee that both parties adhered to the agreed actions.
Otherwise, there would have been no recourse if people suddenly decided to change their minds at a whim.
Naturally, it was not foolproof and people had been known to dispute contracts before.
With a contract, the business partners involved had proof of prior agreements and could openly settle the score if anyone went against it.
There were rules in every industry and contracts were always needed.
There was simply a slight difference in the way punishment was enforced between the legal and underground trades.
"If this evidence falls into their hands, the only thing waiting for me is execution.
Zen, do you really want to see me die?" Christian asked as he squatted and looked straight into Zen’s eyes.
Christian reached out suddenly and wiped the blood from the corner of Zen’s lips.
He wiped the blood bit by bit and was unusually gentle.
Christian continuously rubbed Zen’s face so hard that it looked horrifying. He sounded absolutely cold as he spoke, "Tell me, Zen. Do you want me to die that badly?"
For a moment, Zen detected disappointment and sadness in Christian’s eyes.
...
Zen raised her hand with great difficulty and attempted to make Christian let go as she said weakly, "Christian, why are you asking such a stupid question? Do you think the two of us can ever co-exist peacefully? I have already died for you once. This time, I know that one of us is not going to leave this place alive. Naturally, there is also a chance that we both die. If you shoot me now, I will simply die before you do.
However, there is no escape for you, Christian! There is absolutely no escape for you!"
The moment Zen finished, she laughed loudly.
It seemed as though she could already envision the moment Christian gets shot down.
As the image in her head became clearer, Zen could not help but cry even harder.
"You have sorely underestimated me." Christian stood up slowly. He walked over and retrieved a napkin before he elegantly wiped his hands.
Hands that were covered in Zen’s blood.
"Do you know why I did not run away? Why I hung around to chit-chat with you?"
Some of the blood could not be cleaned off with just tissue, so he lowered his head and licked it off.
Zen was so scared that she went limp when she saw his actions.
He was certainly capable of plotting things.
Zen finally caught on to the fact that Christian had chosen not to escape immediately and kept talking to her, which could only mean that he was well prepared.
Zen swallowed softly. She could not believe that Christian was capable of coming up with a backup plan even now when things had come to this.
This man was absolutely cunning.
"I had already gathered all my men on my way back, so they are well on their way," said Christian calmly. "I know that Michael and Interpol are in bed together. Also, my goods at Lake City have already been seized.
"Even if I attempted to run now, it is completely futile. I might be able to leave my house in one piece, but there is no way for me to leave the city. I might be able to hide out for a couple of days, but I won’t be able to do it forever.
"Although things might get violent today, what has to come, has to come, so I would rather wait for them here. I simply did not realize that you would choose to tell them the truth even if it meant dying."
"What are you trying to do?" Zen asked as she looked at Christian fearfully.
"You will find out in good time." Christian smiled sinisterly as he said, "I can’t tell you about my plans. If you tell Michael and the others about it, would that not render my plans useless?"
Zen had already betrayed Christian, so it was impossible for him to give her any good intel now.
Zen was genuinely worried when she heard what Christian said.
Judging from the confident look on his face, perhaps he really had a backup plan.
Christian’s phone rang again.
Christian answered the phone and heard his assistant say anxiously, "Mr. Lucas, bad news. Michael is already downstairs and Interpol is on its way as well."
Christian was entirely unsurprised. He simply acknowledged it calmly before he instructed him. "Let Michael come upstairs. If he is alone, you don’t need to come up.
If he came with company, come upstairs with two times more men. When he gets here, be prepared to come upstairs at any time to help."
"Got it," the assistant answered immediately.
Christian lived in a huge apartment with only one floor which was just over 3200 square feet in size, there was limited space.
It would be impossible for Michael to bring all his men up.
It was probably going to become a face-off between them to see who would leave the place a winner.
...
Michael and Wendy quickly arrived at Christian’s place.
Michael undid his seatbelt. He turned sideways and said to Wendy, "Are you really coming upstairs with me?"
Michael was still worried about Wendy’s safety.
"Uh huh." Wendy said with determination, "Do not try to talk me out of it. I can’t put my mind at ease without seeing Zen with my own eyes."
Wendy had already undone her seatbelt as she spoke and got out of the car.
Michael stopped insisting and got out as well.
They were surrounded the moment they stepped out of the car.
Michael knew that they were Christian’s men without even a thought.
"Mr. Lucas, the boss has been waiting for you for a long time. This way, please." The man at the lead nodded slightly and gestured for him to enter the building.
Michael ignored him and held Wendy’s hand as he walked over to the elevator.
However, Michael’s men also came over the moment their boss was encircled.
Everyone followed behind Michael as he walked into the building.
"I am sorry, but you are not allowed to enter." The bodyguard at the lead reached out to Michael’s men.
The moment he finished speaking, Michael’s men took out their guns.
Christian’s men, naturally, flashed their weapons as well.
In an instant, both groups of men had their guns trained at each other.
"Mr. Lucas, you can enter, but not your men. If you insist on taking them upstairs, we will only double our men upstairs," said Christian’s bodyguard.
Michael glanced at Wendy and asked softly, "Are you afraid?"
Michael asked Wendy if she was afraid of seeing Christian without their men.
Wendy shook her head without hesitation and said, "I have nothing to be afraid of because I am with you."
"Okay." Michael smiled as he held her hand. He raised his head slightly to look down at the bodyguard standing in front of him, power radiating from him. "Surely I can take her upstairs?"
The bodyguard scrutinized Wendy before he nodded.
It should not be a problem for Michael to bring a woman upstairs.
Michael and Wendy walked into the elevator together.
Michael and Wendy’s faces turned serious as the elevator went up.
Michael took out a gun from his waist and placed it in Wendy’s hand.
Michael noticed the worried look on her face and said calmly, "Use it if you have to."
"I don’t know how to use it." Wendy’s heart throbbed when she sensed the cold weight of the weapon in her hand.
It was the first time she had ever touched a gun.
"I will teach you," said Michael as he took out another gun and showed Wendy how to use it.
Wendy mimicked him but did not dare to do it forcibly. She was terribly worried that the gun would accidentally go off.
Michael was about to speak when the elevator doors opened. He quickly rephrased himself, "Never mind. It’s not something you can master right away. Even if you know how to use a gun, I don’t think you will dare to fire it. If anything happens inside, just pull it out and pretend you know how to use it."
Wendy nodded.
Michael and Wendy walked over to Christian’s door when they exited the elevator.
Michael reached out to press the doorbell as the door was closed.
Christian knew that Michael was here the moment he heard the doorbell.
He put away the gun in his hand and walked over to answer the door.
Christian was surprised when he noticed Wendy with Michael.
