Chapter 274: What an unlucky bunch

Mira, a few meters away from them, nearly burst out laughing at the woman’s blind arrogance. Following Cyra alone would be enough to make him superior to a family head of an aristocratic family.

Someone who appeared out of nowhere, bought an island, rebuilt it after the attack, and still managed to spend this much money to buy malls all over the city wasn’t someone those aristocrats could compete with so easily.

For Kyle to work under such a powerful and mysterious woman was enough to put him ahead of others—not something a mere relative of the city lord could contend with.

And Kyle wasn’t someone to be trifled with. Mira shook her head at Louisa; she should stop provoking Kyle, or she wouldn’t know how she died.

“Move away.” Kyle snapped, his eyes darkening with anger, and his fangs throbbed with hunger.

Louisa noticed the disdain and impatience on his face and felt slighted, and her earlier idea of pursuing him slowly disappeared from her mind.

“You either come with me today, or you won’t leave this city. Be a good—” Her threats were cut off by her choking sound.

Kyle had struck her in the throat without hesitation, and the pain made her mind go blank as she fought for air.

Louisa hunched over, her knees slamming onto the ground with a loud thud as she wheezed for air, her face flushed red and her eyes teary from pain.

Kyle moved closer and whispered, “Block my path again, and you’ll...’’ He left his threat unsaid, but his chilling tone sent a shiver down Louisa’s spine, making her tremble slightly.

But recalling her backing and her sister’s power, her fear turned into a raging fury that a man would dare threaten her.

Kyle brushed past her and entered the room—she watched his back as a cruel idea took shape in her mind.

‘I will make him pay for such disrespect. Since he doesn’t want to belong to me willingly, I will prostitute him out to others. At least he would bring in a huge sum of money with such a stunning face.’ Louisa’s eyes were filled with hatred as she stared at the waiting room. After a few minutes, she stood up and left.

Inside, the secretary kept trying to serve them water, which she had already drugged beforehand, but they refused to drink.

Mira didn’t want to consume anything until she left the bank with the money, while Kyle was too lazy to entertain the woman; moreover, he had no taste for anything except blood.

The secretary wasn’t concerned about the undrunk water; instead, she thought about what she would do with her own share of the money.

’I should get one of those latest hovercars and maybe a house in the villa areas.’ An elated smile curled her lips as she kept dreaming.

As time passed and the sun set, the sky gradually darkened when the manager walked in.

“Sir, here’s your gold card. Thank you for your patronage, and please come again.” The manager handed the gold card, with a small diamond printed in the middle, to Kyle.

“Please, sir, be careful, or hire a bodyguard on your way,” he added after a moment of hesitation.

Kyle sensed his goodwill and offered a polite smile and a soft hum in response.

The manager escorted them to the door, and once they left the building, the evening breeze washed over their faces.

The distant sound of cars and trains echoed ahead, and the streetlights were all turned on, with a few neon dots of light visible in the distance.

Kyle felt at ease as he looked up at the sky, where a few wisps of golden light from the setting sun lingered.

"Are you heading back to the island today or staying in the hotel?" Mira broke the silence as they walked toward the pathway leading outside the bank building.

Kyle was silent for a moment, but then responded, "No, I have to take care of some flies." His tone was casual enough that Mira couldn’t quite grasp his meaning.

She was about to ask when a dirty blonde-haired woman suddenly blocked their path.

"Oi, took them long enough. My legs are already going numb from waiting." The woman clicked her tongue in displeasure at having to wait so long for them.

Three other women walked out from the alley, two of them holding weapons and walking behind the short-haired woman, who took a final puff of her cigarette before stubbing it out.

“Gentlemen, you have two choices. One: hand over the card, and I’ll let you leave with your lives; or two, resist, and I’ll shoot a bullet through your skulls and take it myself. Now choose.” The short-haired woman muttered gruffly as she took a gun out of her pocket.

She waved it carelessly in the air toward Kyle and Mira, while the other women stared at them intimidatingly.

“Oh, they were the flies,” Mira murmured under her breath, coming to a realization.

Her eyes flickered with pity as she glanced at the four thugs. ‘They had to rob Kyle, of all people. What an unlucky bunch.’

The short-haired woman noticed the pity in Mira’s gaze, and her heart skipped a beat for no reason, a sense of foreboding washing over her.

The carelessness in her gaze disappeared, replaced by caution as she looked at both of them. Then she noticed Kyle’s gaze fixed on the alley they had just come out of.

‘Are they stalling for their people to get here?’ That question stayed in her mind, and a sense of urgency took over her.

“The card or this bullet goes through your brain. Hand it over!” she demanded sharply, her gun aimed at Kyle’s head.

The other thugs noticed that their boss’s expression looked off and became more cautious.

One of them slammed an iron stick against the wall menacingly. “Any minute you waste, I’ll cripple your leg!’’

One thug looked at Kyle’s stunning face, and a flash of desire crossed her mind. She mentally planned to have her way with him once the boss got what she wanted.

Kyle remained calm despite their threats, then muttered, “No rush—we have another guest... dealing with you all together is more cost-effective.’’

His words caused everyone to frown and follow his gaze to the empty alley.

“Boss, should we leave?” one of them asked the short-haired woman anxiously. They weren’t sure if Kyle was bluffing or if more people were on their way.

The short-haired woman was silent for a moment; the money on the card was too tempting to pass up.

She had a gun on her, and her subordinates carried theirs. At that thought, she grew a bit calmer and fired a shot into the air as a warning to whoever those people were.

Kyle slipped his fingers into his pocket, his hand brushing against the cool surface of his dagger. ‘What blood bag should I pick this time? I’m starving.’ These random thoughts drifted through his mind—he didn’t really take these people seriously.

“There are more people?” Mira asked aloud, confused, wondering how many others had been tipped off about the money on the card.

But when her gaze rested on the calm Kyle, she felt an unspoken reassurance that no matter what happened, she was safe.

The short-haired woman wanted to ask for the card again when they all heard footsteps in the alley.

They all turned in that direction and watched as a woman, accompanied by several bodyguards in black suits, walked out.

When Mira saw the woman, she shook her head at her foolishness.
