The Villainess Is My Cute Daughter
Chapter 7: The First Step
The townsfolk waited outside and were surprised to see the group walk out after just a few minutes. Once they saw what they were holding, they had nothing but questions.
Before anyone could ask, Burke bowed low to the priest.
"On behalf of Oresfall, I wholeheartedly thank you for heading the prayer for us. The goddess truly has blessed us and it looks like... our Baron is favored by the goddess." he said and straightened his back before addressing the people of Oresfall.
"The dungeon is not dangerous anymore. Even those who cannot fight, should be able to go into the dungeon and get the loot. This really is a blessing, and I suggest that every single one of you go in and take a look. Today, is a day to celebrate."
Hearing this, the people were instantly excited and they all rushed towards the dungeon. They made parties, placed their hands on the glass orb and rushed inside before coming out just a few minutes later.
The dungeon could create multiple instances and due to this, there wasn’t a need for people to wait for too long just to enter.
In less than an hour, everyone was done and they all looked ecstatic. They all placed their loot in the center and began counting.
The population of the town, was a meager 220 but every single one of them was an experienced adventurer except for a few people.
Finally, the priest walked out of the dungeon looking completely shaken.
’I must tell the Bishop about this... we must build a church in this town no matter what. The goddess’s blessings are right here.’ he thought fervently as he left the townsfolk by themselves and left the town in the same carriage that Adrian had rented for him.
He didn’t care to stay the night. Not when the matter was this urgent.
The townsfolk didn’t even pay attention as they were busy counting their loot. A total of 72 iron ingots and four steel ingots, with each ingot weighing 1 kilogram.
"Let’s offer this to the lord! It’s because of him that we were blessed by the goddess so we must pay our respects and thank him. We didn’t even welcome him yesterday and we can’t continue being ungrateful."
It was just a random middle aged man but everyone in this town knew each other so they all knew of this wise scholar. Everyone agreed instantly and they all carried their loot to the Baron’s mansion, only to find a single guard slacking at the gates.
"Where’s the other guard and why are you slacking off?" Burke asked and he looked enraged.
The guard, who was used to seeing Burke never care about how he did his job, couldn’t help but get nervous.
"Sir... the baron moved to a different house today. I overheard the butler saying something about the mansion needing a lot of repairs and that the Baron does not have the money to spare for this."
"I see. Take us to the Lord’s house."
The guard nodded and guided them to a house nearby. It didn’t look as grand as the mansion, but it was still a decent looking house that seemed to have a lot of space inside.
"Ah it’s that old man’s house...." Burke muttered to himself as he went ahead and knocked on the door.
People behind him leaned on each other to take a look at their Baron and to everyone’s shock, they saw a man with long silver hair open the door.
Extremely attractive facial features that made the people look at him in awe, until the entire vibe was broken when their gaze moved downwards.
Their handsome and charismatic lord was wearing an apron with a cute rabbit face stitched on the front.
They had seen young wives wear these but a literal Baron? This was out of their imagination’s limits.
"Ah, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to join you guys for the prayer. You see, my daughter woke up and wanted to eat something so I had to make her something." he said, giving them a sheepish grin as a small girl walked to his side and looked at everyone.
As soon as the people laid their eyes on her, they were mesmerized again and this time, there wasn’t anything that broke their expectations. She had all the features of her father. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The long silvery hair, adorable features and even the way she grabbed her father’s shirt as she looked up at them, made everyone’s hearts melt. The only difference between the two, was that the father had red pupils while the daughter had black ones.
"It’s alright, Lord Adrian. Your daughter must always be your first priority." Burke said as he cleared his throat and moved to the side a little.
The people immediately stacked all the iron and steel ingots in front of Adrian’s house while Burke continued.
"Thanks to you having the confidence and hope in our town, we managed to get blessed by the goddess. Without your actions, this would have never happened and due to this, we would like to express our thanks by giving you all the loot we received on our first day. Please do not reject it."
He sounded sincere and Adrian could tell that everyone in front of him was grateful for what happened.
But, this was not the result he had expected. It had surpassed his expectations instead.
"I cannot accept something like this, my dear people." he said, his voice changing from that of an awkward and clumsy father to that of a leader.
"I already take taxes and I cannot bring myself to take something like this for free. Why don’t you do something else for me? Go out to the neighboring territories and spread word about the dungeon. Make the adventurer guild update their dungeon lists. This way, we’ll have a lot more people coming to our land and the more people we have, the more prosperous we can be."
The people immediately agreed, thanked him for his generosity and wise thinking before they left.
Adrian smirked inwardly, ’Hehe, the first step is done. Now, demand will be created and I’ll have to retain my customers... my golden geese. And to do that... I have the perfect solution.’
