Chapter 672: 671. No Goodbyes (1)

The shock wave of the fight above had reached far below at Eldarf and the kids and Sol were alerted within seconds. They all gathered outside watching the sky.

Sol’s stomach was in knots, he knew they would come sooner or later but to have them here before his curse was lifted was bad. Their presence meant that it was now his time.

Sol looked at the Elf and the Dwarf kids around him along with Dahlia and Kent who were trying to keep them from panicking.

"What’s wrong?"

"I can sense Master up there!"

"There’s also two more Dragons!"

"Are they fighting?!"

"What’s going on?!"

"It’s nothing serious," Dahlia said.

"Yes, Master is handling it so, you all get inside." Kent said.

Sol recognized the two Presences. One was the Silver Dragon of Wind, the fifth Supreme Dragon who was infamous for his crafty nature and laziness. And the other was the youngest, short tempered Frost Dragon, who admired Aeltharos- The Supreme Aqua Dragon. If she came to know that Aeltharos was dead, she might just destroy the kingdom.

For a moment, he was at a loss. He had to do his part and he had been thinking of this the day he met Ocean but now that it had come to this point... He couldn’t help but feel the dilemma. He wanted to carry out his task but was also reluctant.

Sol just hoped those two wouldn’t cause any unnecessary chaos for Ocean now that they were here.

The fight didn’t seem to last for a long time and the gathered ice crystals that hung around the trio also vanished. Ocean led them away and Sol grew a little tense.

The kids were also riled up which made Sol sigh and face them.

"It’s nothing," he spoke loudly, "Ocean can take care of them."

"But, Sol..." Viella spoke.

"We can help him though!" Rowan claimed.

"You can’t. You’ll only get in their way. He’s already taken them somewhere so, let’s go inside everyone." Sol spoke.

Dahlia looked a little reluctant but she nodded at Kent gesturing him to take the kids inside.

"Come on in now, you don’t want to anger Master!" Kent shouted.

The kids grumbled but eventually went inside the manor, Sol lingered behind with Dahlia who looked up at the sky.

"Will... he be all right?" Dahlia mumbled.

"He’ll be fine." Sol said.

Dahlia looked at him, she could see that despite his assurance the tension still made his fists clench at his sides and his eyes were strained.

She just hoped everything went well.

It was night time when Sol stepped out of the Eldarf, he had made sure none of the kids noticed.

He adjusted the slingback that he had hung around his shoulder and the cloak that he had gotten from Ocean. He also carried some money and Ocean’s mana stone pendant.

He silently made his way through the forest, he couldn’t sense any presence around apart from the forest nightlife. He stopped before the mana barrier that protected the Eldarf from the world and then after glancing back once at the path he came from, he stepped out.

He had only walked a few places when he stopped as the wind rustled through the leaves above him.

He looked up and saw a gyrfalcon swoop down towards him. Sol wasn’t fazed as the gyrfalcon circled him before flying over to the figure who now had appeared under the tree a few steps away.

Their expression was serene and a small smile graced their features, their usually crafty looking foxy eyes were gentle, demeanor almost polite.

Sol walked closer and the figure sank to his knee with his hand over his heart.

"My Liege." He spoke respectfully.

Sol stood before him, watching the Silver Dragon who had come out to greet him.

"Rise." Sol spoke and Caelthir smiled, only lifting his head.

"How have you been, My Liege? I didn’t expect you to be..." He looked at Sol’s form properly and then tilted his head before frowning deeply.

"Y... You are cursed." He almost sneered making the air around him shudder.

"I am." Sol affirmed.

The scales started appearing on Caelthir’s face but Sol simply rose his hand and placed it over Caelthir’s head.

"Quiet down, you’ll alert the kids." Sol spoke and Caelthir at once lowered his head.

"My apologise."

Sol’s eyes softened, "So, it’s come to this point, huh."

Caelthir looked at Sol again, "Yes, but... How come you are in this form? Wa-Was the Devil’s curse that potent?"

Sol sighed, "I got cursed by another."

A vein popped over Caelthir’s forehead but he kept it in.

"How come?"

Sol sighed, looking almost sheepish.

"I was in Mordino... and ran into a Dominus who put this curse on me."

Caelthir wanted to dig in for more information but Sol didn’t give any.

"You met Ocean." Sol spoke and Caelthir smiled.

"Yes."

"Yes, we met her, and I also noticed that unlike all of us, you have blessed her with your authority. Isn’t that quite biased?"

Sol averted his eyes and then lifted his head looking up at the starry sky.

"If the Heavens could do their work properly then a child wouldn’t have to suffer so much..." He then looked at Caelthir.

"I’m just doing what I must do as a Dragon God. I’m doing what I can for the child who carries the expectations of the Heavens and the future of this world."

Sol then looked down at his little hands, "But this curse hinders me... I can’t do anything apart from giving her what I have left."

Caelthir frowned and Sol then smiled.

"Now that you are here, I’m glad. I can leave for my work now."

"But what will you do in this form? I can barely feel your Presence." Caelthir gasped.

Sol touched the mana stone resting on his chest before saying, "I’ll be fine."

Caelthir was at a loss for words, the last time he had seen their Dragon God was during the time when he had left the responsibility of the future to the six of them. But now, he was facing the little boy who barely looked older than 10, more human than a Dragon born. So fragile and weak that it almost drove him as angry as the time when he learned that Aeltharos was murdered by a human.

This future was probably the most bleak one, he already could see it ending badly.

"My Liege... Shall I go with you?" Caelthir asked and Sol shook his head.

"No, I will handle this part myself, the child needs you. So, I’ll ask you to support her in any way possible and also, don’t make things hard for her."

There was warmth and affection in his tone that almost made Caelthir envious.

"Alas, I know you and Isyrrha won’t just over my word unless you see so yourself of whether she’s up to the mark or not."

The envy was replaced by the sense of pride instantly.

"But I’m sure you’ll see it, the reason why I decided to give her my authority and protection."

Caelthir was intrigued now, he had seen some of that potential when he had seen the child facing Isyrrha. They had maintained absolute composure, even during delivering the news of Aeltharos’s death, they weren’t dramatizing it to curry favor or gain sympathy from those two. But he wouldn’t deny the fact that he sensed the young Dragon using Aeltharos’s name and his own calm demeanor to quell Isyrrha’s anger. He diverted her emotions to Aeltharos so that she wouldn’t in her fit of anger destroy everything and that’s also exactly why he took them to Aeltharos’s lair.

"She’s indeed very smart." Caelthir spoke and Sol smiled.

"Besides, does she know that you’re leaving?" Caelthir asked, Sol averted his eyes.

"No, huh..."

Sol cleared his throat, "She won’t let me go, if I told her. Moreover, I don’t want her to worry. Just tell her what’s necessary... You may have noticed that she is forbidden from sharing information."

Caelthir nodded and Sol added, "It’s... hard to leave her..."

Caelthir observed Sol carefully for a moment, it was painfully obvious that the child’s humanity had rubbed off on Sol. It kind of reminded him of a certain human because of whom they had come down to the mortal world in the first place.

"I’ll leave this side to you then," Sol said placing his hand over Caelthir’s shoulder.

Caelthir nodded, "Yes, My Liege."

Sol then looked up at the sky and Caelthir asked, "Ah, but how will you commute from hence?"

Sol looked at him and spoke, "By walking."

Caelthir sighed before he gestured for the gyrfalcon to come closer. The bird swooped over and landed on Caelthir’s arm.

"Take Xevia with you." Caelthir said, "She’s my familiar. She can change her body size at will, you can ride her."

Sol stared at the bird appearing hesitant before he admitted, "I... don’t have enough mana reserve."

Caelthir smiled, "It’s fine, My Liege."

Caelthir then pushed the snowy white feathers from the bird’s chest a little and Sol spotted a glinting large diamond studded into its chest, right above the heart.

"She has my mana stone to sustain her."

The gyrfalcon chartered and flapped his wings before hopping over to Sol, Sol stretched his arm for the bird and it hopped closer until it reached his face. Sol felt the bird’s smooth beak brushing against his cheek and he smiled.

"Thank you, Caelthir. I’ll take good care of her."

Caelthir smiled in return and then rose to his feet stepping a little away from Sol.

"I’ll see you again, My Liege."

Sol nodded before Xevia flapped its wings and then landed on the grass, it’s body glowed faintly before its size grew as big as that of an adult horse.

Sol stepped back and Xevia lay its wing down to for Sol to climb.

"Have a safe journey." Caelthir called and Sol smiled.

"I will, you and Isyrrha also be careful." Sol hollered back.

Caelthir then placed his hand over Xevia’s beak.

"Listen, Xevia. Serve him well, hm? I’ll wait for you."

Xevia let out a loud shrill cry which made both Caelthir and Sol to clamp their ears before the two chuckled.

Caelthir watched as Xevia flapped her wings and carried Sol away.

Caelthir stood there as the reality sank in now... This was the point where the Dragons had to step in and that meant that the second Great War between Demons and Dragons was on the horizon.
