THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS - Chapter 189: Threats Don’t Work With Her
By Monday the following week she personally went to drop the children at school.
Before leaving she met Ms Richards, their class teacher who spoke more on what Eleanor will be doing and handed her an invite to the program, informing her that all the parents have been invited to the big event to support their children.
As she walked out of the kindergarten, the morning sunlight enhanced her elegant appearance.
She had worn a fitted navy blue pencil skirt that accentuated her slender figure, paired with a crisp white blouse tucked neatly into the skirt.
A slim black belt cinched her waist perfectly, adding a touch of sophistication to her appearance. Her high-heeled black pumps clicked lightly on the pavement as she walked.
Her chestnut blonde lustrous hair cascading down her shoulders in soft waves, framed her face like a halo. She had completed the look with subtle makeup that highlighted her striking features.
From a black sports car, a certain dashing gentleman gaped in awe at the gorgeous beauty striding in his direction.
"What a beautiful sight to behold so early in the morning. I’d be damned if I let her go today."
Steffan couldn’t help but blink repeatedly as he stepped out of his car. He was completely smitten by her grace and radiance. Her confident stride and the way she effortlessly carried herself in her professional attire left him in awe.
"What are you doing here?" Kathleen asked the troublesome person that suddenly appeared out of nowhere, blocking her path and was grinning at her as if he had just stumbled on a national treasure.
"To see you of course," Steffan answered. He was particularly happy seeing her again after a very long time. It’s been a little over a week but to him it felt like eternity.
He couldn’t take his eyes away from her breathtaking beauty.
How did I get to meet someone this shameless? Kathleen asked herself.
"This is neither my office nor my house. What is your purpose for blocking me again and again."
Steffan had an aggrieved expression as he responded. "I would have loved to meet you in any one of those places you mentioned but you have refused to leave even your contact with me. And as for my purpose, you know it quite well."
When he remembered how everything around him was almost grounded as he looked forward to her call for a whole week, he felt he was the most foolish man that ever existed.
But what he felt for her was more than any pride or reason. As far as he was concerned, he was already a hopeless case when it came to her.
"I waited for you for the entire week and you never gave me a call like you promised."
Steffan tried to mask his feelings, but a tinge of dejection lingered in his voice as he spoke.
Kathleen noticed it and felt sorry for him,
"There were so many things I had to deal with so I didn’t have the time to call you"
"What about this week, should I wait for your call?" Steffan asked hopefully.
Kathleen slowly shook her head. She had already checked her schedule for the week yesterday and as usual it was packed full with appointments. Even if she was free, she was not ready to deal with him yet.
"I’m sorry, this week is also tight," Kathleen said, softening her tone.
Steffan’s face fell, a mix of disappointment and anger clouded his expression. He nodded, trying to hide his disappointment with a wry smile.
"Is it really that tight or you are deliberately avoiding meeting me?"
Kathleen’s brow furrowed, "Why would I avoid you?"
"I don’t know, but just a reminder of why we need to meet. President Hudson, the father of your children, would be thrilled to know about his children’s existence."
Kathleen had already sensed that it would come to this, but she still had a glimmer of hope that he wouldn’t use this to force her.
Her eyes turned cold as she took in his challenging look. ’Is he threatening me?’ As expected, they are always ever after their own interest and would do anything to satisfy that interest.
But unfortunately, threats don’t work with her, she can deal with any issue that comes her way squarely.
And if she can’t deal with this small distraction, what was the use of those years of reflection and self development?
Not only had she developed her business and medical skills, her mental capacity and resilience were not left out either.
However, this was a matter that involved her children and they were her major and only weakness, so she had to tread cautiously. Wisdom, they say, is the principal thing.
"He knows already," she said nonchalantly.
No one would be able to guess how unsettled she was from her outward appearance but she seriously hoped he would buy the lie.
"What!?" Steffan never expected such an outcome. "How did he get to know about it?"
"Very simple, I told him myself." Kathleen replied boldly. She was beginning to enjoy the way the discussion was going.
Another gasp escaped Steffan’s mouth. Was she in her right senses? "Why would you do that?"
A derisive expression came over Kathleen’s face. "Wasn’t that what you wanted all along?
"Or Is it because of my boldness or the fact that you suddenly don’t have what you can use to threaten me that you are this surprised?" Kathleen taunted.
"For your information, I am not someone anybody can easily threaten, so your carefully crafted plot had no choice but to fail."
Steffan seemed not to hear her snide remark. He was only interested in what Shawn did afterwards. "What was his reaction?"
"That is none of your business," Kathleen retorted, forcing a smile on her face to mask her true emotion.
There was no way she was going to let him know that Shawn didn’t know yet that the children were his.
