THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS
Chapter 167: Manipulative Sister
Candace swallowed the words she was about to say as she stared at their new company in astonishment.
"You must be Mrs Rosse." Cheryl’s eyes were filled with admiration for the woman who could take up such a huge feat as this and didn’t seem to notice that the other woman was taken in by their sudden appearance.
"Yes, I am," Candace came back to her senses. "But I didn’t expect to meet today, the most outstanding lawyer in Baltimore and President Jason Wyatt of Wyatt Corporations. To what do I owe this great honor?"
Turning to his sister, Jason sighed, "We were all invited here by her."
He appeared to be complaining, but in reality his eyes were full of indulgence towards his beloved sister.
Kathleen shot him a reproaching look. "Are you insinuating that I forced you guys here?"
Jason stared at his sister and was momentarily speechless. Who else but her knew best if she had forced them here or not?
After getting home last night she had told them about her plans and arranged for all of them to accompany her to hang out with the children who would be benefiting from the project.
Cheryl of course had complained as she wanted to spend more time with her boyfriend whom she had not seen in a very long while, but was soon blackmailed by Kathleen into giving up her wonderful plans for the next day.
Jason would never have believed his sister was this manipulative until yesterday.
She had made it impossible for any of them to refuse coming with her.
"With what face will you meet your creator when he asks you what good thing you did before leaving this world?" she had asked Cheryl when she refused to go.
"Will you tell him you were busy catching up with your boyfriend who was clearly not running away while ignoring poor children that needed your moral support and love for just a day?"
"I’m not dying yet," Cheryl had retorted. "So there’s no question of meeting my creator, talk less of answering a bunch of useless questions."
"But even Jason has agreed to go, what would you be doing alone the entire day? I guess you’ll be staring at a pile of inanimate and boring law books while we, your loved ones are having the time of our lives and at the same time putting a few more pluses in our good deeds record in heaven."
"You don’t have to be so pessimistic, I will go with you." Cheryl obliged reluctantly. She winced at the thought of what a conniving sister in-law Janice turned out to be in the blink of an eye.
"But I can’t remember saying that I will go with you," Jason objected just before Kathleen could sing her victory song.
"Kathleen sneered, "I remember you clearly said you were in on the plan. Don’t you dare think of backing out now."
"That was to support the project and not run around a field with a bunch of children."
"It doesn’t matter, you are going with us. Moreover, Cheryl has already agreed to come and you saw how hard it was for me to convince her."
She pouted and continued, "I’m sure you don’t want your "ONLY" sister to go through that pain again, right?"
With an exasperated sigh, Jason had no choice but to give in. "Alright, you win. But after today, I only want to be involved financially."
"Who is talking about another day? One day is more than enough," she beamed triumphantly but Jason somehow felt those words couldn’t be trusted and there would always be several other "one days."
A nudge from his sister brought him to the present and he quickly adjusted himself.
"When did I say that we were forced? Of course we came willingly and were not coerced by anyone. Didn’t we, Ms Moore?" Jason cast an imploring look at Cheryl who instantly backed him up.
"Yes. We came on our own accord. Who would not like to be part of something this noble?"
There was no trace of the reluctant woman Kathleen had to spend most of her strength convincing last night.
Candace looked at the two people joking with each other and couldn’t help but feel they looked so good together.
Once again her perception of Dr Janice soared high up again.
What special abilities does she have to be able to have the two most outstanding men in Baltimore wrapped around her fingers and at her beck and call as it appears? Even Ms Moore was not spared from her charms.
But the more she looked at it, the more she felt that Dr Janice somehow bore a close resemblance to President Jason.
There was no ambiguity between them as they joked and everything was natural. Is there any special relationship between them?
Lauren was also taken in by the rapport between the two siblings and from the depth of her heart was happy for her friend who had truly found a loving family.
Although Kathleen had always assured her that her brother loved her and was ready to do anything for her, there were still some doubts lingering in her heart but with what she was seeing, she could finally be at ease.
"Mrs Rosse, I think we should all head in now, the others are here already." Jason announced as he saw two luxurious buses conveying the children, pull up at the entrance of the park.
"Candace," she corrected. "If you don’t mind I’d prefer us to keep it simple. The "title" thing doesn’t go down well with me actually."
"That’s Ok with us." Cheryl answered on behalf of everyone as they made their way to the bus.
The head minder of the children saw Candace and the people coming with her and went to greet them before they got to the bus.
Three other adults were there to assist the children down from each of the buses and organized them orderly just by the gate.
