Chapter 165: That Is None Of Your Business

But if president Hudson knows all these facts why was he coming to him. Was there something more to it than he was revealing?

His brooding look was gradually replaced by that of suspicion as he stared at Shawn. "Why was she in an accident?"

"That is none of your business."

He almost flared up again but forced himself to remain calm and could only complain under his breath. ’Why did you come to me since it is none of my business?

Shawn just glanced at the man who from all indications had been driven mad by him and ordered as if he had nothing to do with his current state, "I want you to call her and ask about her health."

Dr Sullivan was rendered speechless.

Just like that? Was he being serious? After telling him that it was none of his business, he still had the mind to demand such from him.

Of course he was going to find out the whereabouts of his goddess after knowing that she was involved in yet another accident, but not under anyone’s command.

What does President Hudson take him for? Ordering him about like one of his lackeys. He was a prestigious doctor for crying out loud.

"Why don’t you call her yourself?" He finally uttered in a clipped voice.

"Do you think I would be here if she had picked my calls?"

"In other words, you have something to do with the accident." Dr Sullivan’s suspicions were proven to be true by President Hudson’s silence.

"If you want me to help you, you have to trust me and tell me what I need to know," he insisted much to Shawn’s chagrin.

"I’ve just told you it is ..."

"None of my business," snapped Dr Sullivan. "Don’t forget the person we are dealing with is a smart and highly perceptive woman. I need to know the nature of the accident so I don’t raise her suspicions."

"Well, we had an argument yesterday and she left in anger. I only got to know about the accident a few minutes ago," was all Shawn felt he needed to say. The rest he left it for the doctor to fill up the blanks.

Dr Sullivan had a disappointed look as he glared at Shawn from behind his gold rimmed glasses. He was even beginning to think that President Hudson wasn’t suitable enough for his goddess.

How can she be facing so much misfortune despite all his abilities? He couldn’t even make her happy for once.

It was obvious his love wasn’t just enough and there must be a major variable missing from the equation. As an elder, he felt he needed to come in at this stage.

"There are some things I think we should talk about, sir, but let’s start by finding out how she is."

Shawn wondered what the old doctor wanted to discuss with him but still responded with an, "Ok, Doc."

Dr Sullivan dialed the number on his phone. It rang for some time then stopped. He called again but the result was the same as before.

His brow creased in a frown. "Are you sure she is Ok? She doesn’t normally leave her phone unanswered. She would always pick up on the second or third ring at most."

That was the same thing he had encountered when he tried to call her. He had thought that she deliberately refused to pick his call when she saw that he was the one calling.

"Any idea about who else we can contact to get in touch with her?" Shawn asked.

"I should be asking you that." Dr Sullivan had long left his seat and was pacing the entire office space.

They both turned their head to the door where they had heard a knock only to see Dr Steffan walk through the door into the office.

On sighting the people in the office, he turned back to leave but was stopped by Dr Sullivan’s voice.

"Hold on, Dr Steffan."

He had no choice but to turn back inside. A curt nod was all the greeting he spared Shawn who likewise responded with a grunt and quickly turned away to stare at nothing in particular to hide the emotion in his eyes.

If anyone had told him that a day like this would come where the only greeting they would exchange was a cold grunt and a curt nod, he would have dismembered the person without a second thought.

Dr Sullivan’s eyes darted from one to the other. What was wrong with these two? He had never seen them treat each other so coldly before.

He pretended not to have noticed the tension between them as he said flippantly,

"Do you need my attention with something, Dr Steffan?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"What I needed to discuss with you is not that urgent. It can wait. I can see that you have an important guest."

"Who also happens to be your best friend," Dr Sullivan laughed meaningfully.

Steffan ignored Dr Sullivan’s hint and said, "If you’ll excuse me, I will call back when you are less busy."

Hearing that, Shawn rose from his seat and directly walked out of the office, taking the two doctors by surprise.

Dr Sullivan turned to Steffan, "Is everything Ok between you two?"

Steffan just shrugged but said nothing.

’Why is everyone acting strange today? Anyways that was the least of his problems.

"What do you want to see me about?"

Steffan released a deep breath as he followed Dr Steffan’s signal to sit. "It’s about the patient in ward eleven whose operation we were discussing earlier."

"What about her?"

"I think the procedure we are going for might be too risky for her age."

"I’m aware of that, Dr Steffan, but one thing I didn’t mention to the others was that there was someone that will be heading the operation this time."

"Do you mean you are not the chief surgeon for that day?"

"No... it will be an honor for me to assist the person."
